BACKGROUND: the most probable reason for jiye's acceptance into the nation's top medical school is that she's a disgusting know-it-all. having been raised by parents who both never finished college, the ideals and expectations of graduating at the top of her class and grade were brought down upon her even at a young age such as ten. but that didn't matter to jiye. she loved school, believe it or not, and succeeded in these goals surprisingly fast. she turned out to be gifted in math and science and loved all extracurricular activities (volleyball and lacrosse especially) to the joy of her parents and the distaste of her siblings. but while she knew her parent's were living vicariously through her and her achievements, what jiye didn't know was that they wouldn't have the financial support she planned to use as a crutch for most of her college career. her family didn't qualify for it, meaning all of her hopes and dreams of becoming the world's greatest pediatrics surgeon ever would have to come to an end. but this didn't stop jiye. she was determined to make her family happy even if it meant sacrificing her social life and her sleep for them. in short, jiye began working and fast. she picked up part-time jobs at the local children's center, the burger joint near school, the movie theater, the seven eleven down the street, and the bakery in addition to her permanent job at the family restaurant. with all this and her schoolwork and extracurricular activities, jiye soon began getting almost no sleep at all. she sacrificed everything in order to earn enough money to pay for tuition and unbeknownst to her at the time, these direct effects on her health would lead to drastic complications. she did end up reaching her goal and was able to leave for seoul but was her now permanent insomnia worth it? medical school was not the happy reward jiye thought it would be. it was stressful and merciless with competitive bloodthirsty rivals that pushed jiye to work herself to the bone. literally! she soon found herself losing weight just as fast as she'd gain it and her once athletic figure now rivaled a stick's. it was no longer a question whether or not she was happy because her parents were and that was all that mattered. even if she was now a walking corpse with not even an ounce of energy left in her, she'd continue to persevere because it's what her family wanted.

PERSONALITY: they say laughter is the best medicine and despite what her grumpy ass professor says, jiye still stands by that fact. she's stupidly optimistic and loves to make people laugh with a good pun every now and then. combine that with a killer personality and an eyesmile that can charm the pants off of anyone, and you'll get a fraction of who jiye really is. sure she loves messing around and goofing off but she can get deadly serious when she wants to. she's like a coin, you have two sides to her that are vastly different from each other but you still need both to make a whole. while day jiye is a ball of sunshine with a crazy accent to match her crazy jokes, night jiye is as dark and deep as the coffee she likes to drink while watching the sun paint the sky a hazy purple early while everyone else is still asleep. during the day, she can laugh and smile and joke around like everyone else, but at night when it's just her and the moon, she sometimes forgets how to feel. and when she knows she's reaching that point - the point of no return - she turns to humor. humor is a coping mechanism for jiye. she has to laugh at all the bad things in life because the only other option is to just feel bad for herself. but she never lets anyone know this. she's supposed to be jiye after all and jiye isn't exactly a debbie downer. she's the mood maker of the group, the happy virus. she's the one responsible for making people laugh, aka your designated shoulder to cry on. and while these facts are all true, they also leave jiye without anyone to confide in. she's afraid that if her friends really hear all her insecurities, they'll never see her as herself but rather this dark and gloomy person with sleeping problems. so besides her brother and the cute bellhop from downstairs, jiye keeps all this to herself and hopes that she can get her sleep problem under control before she has to get back to school.

because the two of them have so much in common, jiye's friends naturally tried to bring the two together in hopes of succeeding in a short romance that would get jiye's mind off of things (they know she's stressed over school). but while they might be similar, they're a bit too similar for jiye to feel anything other than platonic feelings for him. basically he reminds her a lot of her younger brother jinyoung which is probably why she's so comfortable around him (sibling zoned?). but because she hangs around him so much, hoshi starts getting the wrong idea and (le gasp) HE falls for HER. it's a crazy situation especially because hosh knows that she sees him as a friend and nothing more. but instead of backing off, hosh exploits her feelings and uses them to get closer to her so he can kind of wiggle his way into her heart. it's sad but hosh is just as lonely as jiye is and wants someone who understands him as well as she does. he ends up telling her this, admitting his true feelings and intentions to her late at night, and while she's a bit hurt he'd do this, she understands why and begins to date him for a short period time but because she relates to him. they soon break up and while their romance didn't work out, jiye likes to think that their friendship is one that will last a lifetime.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
jeon wonwoo is the opposite of hoshi. he's not cheerful, he hates puns, and he's not really a fan of small talk. jiye's friends try to steer her clear of him thinking that he's a bad influence and will 'taint' her happiness. however, he's just what jiye needs - a confidant who won't try to use her feelings to his own gain like hoshi did. the two of them first meet on the rooftop where jiye likes to hide when she's feeling a bit more depressed than normal. he sees that the key to the rooftop is missing and goes up to see who's up there so early only to find jiye with a blanket and a cup of coffee. she's watching the sunrise and she just seems so different from when wonwoo first met her. he ends up sitting with her and they talk. just talking, nothing else. it's then he finds out that she's not as two-dimensional as he thought she was and he begins to take interest in her. but it's strictly for research because wonwoo knows that hoshi likes jiye and he's not the type who goes after girls his friend likes. still, this doesn't stop wonwoo from leaving a box of chamomile tea in her room along with a sticky note that reads "to help you sleep"
jiye wasn't sure how she felt about wonwoo. she wasn't quite sure why her friends didn't want her hanging around him but what she did know was that she liked him. he was quiet and a good listener and that's all she cared about. that and trying to make him laugh.

HOW HE ACTS AROUND YOUR CHARACTER:
he treats her like a little kid despite her being older. because she's an emotional mess, wonwoo finds himself wanting to take care of her. the girl's been drinking coffee when she's been having trouble sleeping! if that isn't reckless then hanging around the roof when no one is awake is. even so, wonwoo can't help but fall for jiye and her unpredictability. but when he does, he feels bad considering hoshi likes her and has made this very clear. at one point, wonwoo even begins to resent jiye because she continues to confide in him even while she's dating hoshi. he distanced himself from her because hoshi is his friend and friendships are definitely more important than relationships. but when they break up, he realizes that he had jeopardized his friendship with jiye and rushes to apologize. the two of them make up and begin to date :)))

HOW YOUR CHARACTER ACTS AROUND HIM:
during the day, jiye is always trying to make him laugh. she uses her best jokes on him and always waits eagerly to see his response. of course, all of her attempts to make him laugh fail but it's her effort and how hard she works that makes him laugh in the end. but because he's also her go to guy when she needs to vent, she also feels somewhat self-conscious. she soon realizes that these feelings of embarrassment aren't because of the fact that wonwoo is basically her own living diary but because she likes him. but she's dating hoshi and she's supposed to be caring about hoshi right? isn't this technically cheating? this internal conflict leads jiye to wanting to tell wonwoo her feelings so she can try quickly to get over them and focus on helping hoshi rebuild his confidence since she knows how hard it is always trying to be optimistic. but wonwoo lashes out at her for some reason and distances himself from her. this is what jiye wanted but at the same time, it's the one thing she wished never happened. and then hoshi breaks up with her out of the blue, saying something like it wasn't her fault but his? feeling lower than she had ever felt before, jiye isn't sure what to do. but then wonwoo comes back to her and they make up...and make out ;) nah jk but you get the picture.

RELATIONSHIP TRIVIA:
- wonwoo's really bad at expressing himself so whatever he wants to say to jiye he always writes on sticky notes and leaves them at her favorite places (the roof, her room, hoshi's work area, etc)
- jiye switched to drinking tea because of him even though she hates drinking tea
