However, during the trials patients were given daily doses of 40mg, 80mg, and 120mg at the highest dose per day over the course of 28 days. During this period, patients did not report any serious events or side effects, and the NSI-189 phosphate was found to be well tolerated. Also, there was a significant reduction in depression and cognitive symptoms for patients taking the lower doses of 40mg and 80mg, but not for those taking 120mg per day. The preliminary findings of the trials are supportive of the idea that NSI-189 phosphate can treat MDD. Nonetheless, further studies on the dosage and the method of action of NSI-189 phosphate are imperative to help confirm preliminary observations and help draw conclusions.
