01[14:56] <@Shiki> And it changed every one of your lives.
01[14:57] <@Shiki> No longer would you see the world as safe, as secure, as honest.
01[14:58] <@Shiki> Today... today would be your second journey, your second encounter with the unknown, the supernatural.
01[14:58] <@Shiki> And it all began with a simple, simple thing.
01[14:58] <@Shiki> That monday morning, at seven in the evening.
01[14:59] <@Shiki> It'd been a quiet day, each of you doing your own thing, seperate.
01[15:00] <@Shiki> And then... the power went out.
[15:01] <Catriona> "Goddammit."
06[15:02] * Raquel reaches over for the flashlight on her desk after a sigh, flipping it on and using it to guide herself in searching through her bag. Quite a stroke of luck that one of the things she bought with Komachi were some nightvision goggles.
[15:02] <Ai_Seigh> "Oh boy."
06[15:03] * Raquel simply sets the goggles on her desk though, figuring she should only use them if she goes outside, going back to reading through her books with the maglite, which is somewhat annoying.
06[15:03] * Ai_Seigh drops her paperwork back onto the desk, looking up at the ceiling.
[15:04] <Machi> Sitting on her bed, staring at where she's sure the TV is, muttering, "But who's the killer?" Komachi tries to remember where she put her flashlight down--in her stuff, yeah, after getting back from work.
[15:04] <Elys> "... Where is my email?" Elys pushes the "On" button on her computer. There is no response from it after the fans proceeded to "whrrr" down. Push. Push push. After a moment, she sighs, looking up and around. Idly, she attempts to switch the light back on. "Everything else out as well. Great."
06[15:05] * Raquel waits for her mother to go and call for her, as expected from a caring parent.
06[15:05] * Catriona kicks back from her reloading bench, standing and feeling her way about. Cut from the soothing lyrics of Butcher Pete, makes her way to her coat. Retrieving her pistol, she flicked the light beneath the barrel on. "Eh. It'll work." And proceeded to search for any candles, or a flashlight proper.
[15:06] <Machi> Aha, there it is. And over in this closet, those goggles she'd bought three weeks ago, next to her knife. Some disturbing memory of her last experience with a blackout causes her to pick up both.
01[15:06] <@Shiki> Normally, when there's a power outage at a local plant, the government switches over power lines, causing it to work in a few minutes.
01[15:06] <@Shiki> Minutes pass.
01[15:06] <@Shiki> Raquel, you get your text.  "Are you home?"
01[15:06] <@Shiki> Then more.
01[15:06] <@Shiki> The power remains out.
06[15:07] * Elys is pacing the room. After a while, she looks out the window, for likely the umpteenth time.
06[15:07] * Ai_Seigh grumbles and feels around her office for a flashlight.
01[15:07] <@Shiki> The city is out.
01[15:07] <@Shiki> Ai, after a few minutes, you obtain flashlight.
01[15:07] <@Shiki> Same, Catriona.
[15:07] <Raquel> "It is currently 7 PM, and I am in the room adjacent to yours, of course," sending a quick reply for her mother.
06[15:07] * Ai_Seigh clicks it on and looks around.
01[15:07] <@Shiki> A return reply, "Alright.  Don't go out, alright?"
01[15:08] <@Shiki> Ai, it's your office, just... dark.
[15:08] <Raquel> "Understood, mother."
01[15:08] <@Shiki> Ai, on your desk, you see the newspaper brought in:
06[15:09] * Catriona pushing the button on the side of the torch, she navigates to a window. "Whole city is out?"
01[15:09] <@Shiki> "Missing power plant workers cause investigation!"
06[15:09] * Elys looks around for a flashlight herself after a while, and proceeds to rummage around for a book of some sort to pass the time. "Ah, it's taking a long time."
[15:09] <Machi> Komachi checks over her things with the flashlight, growing increasingly unsettled. She sits down in the backroom, her 'workshop', where she kept her old tools she never had a reason to use.
[15:10] <Ai_Seigh> "Missing- great."
01[15:11] <@Shiki> Your tools are still there.
06[15:11] * Raquel grows increasingly concerned over the matter, and ever since the incident, she's been more conducive to chalking up strange happenings to the supernatural, for better or for worse. Using her flashlight to light her way, she begins preparing her bag and her pockets for a field excursion, pulling out from her closet and equipping that vest Komachi got for her "just in case".
06[15:11] * Ai_Seigh leaves her office, walking down the hall to look out the window.
01[15:11] <@Shiki> The snow has stopped falling.  The moon shines overhead.
[15:12] <Ai_Seigh> Rest of the city out?
01[15:12] <@Shiki> Yes, it is... wait, what's that?
[15:12] <Catriona> "Fukkit.  If I can not finish loading bullets."  She snatched up her coat, tucking her pistol into her inner pocket and plodding out into the apartment hall.
06[15:12] * Ai_Seigh tries to look closer.
01[15:13] <@Shiki> Ai, in the distance, you see an abandoned power plant.
[15:14] <Ai_Seigh> Was... was that there before?
01[15:14] <@Shiki> It was the old one, used before the company replaced it with a newer, better power plant.
[15:14] <Machi> With a curse under her breath, Komachi grabs the longest weapon around--the scythe she'd been working on restoring to something useful for her sojutsu in her off-time--and goes back into her main room. She dons her protective gear carefully, coat going over it.
01[15:14] <@Shiki> Yes, though it's across the city.
01[15:14] <@Shiki> The place... the lights are faint, and you're suprised you can catch a glimpse of them.
01[15:14] <@Shiki> But you see them.
06[15:14] * Raquel glances over her little window, not bothering checking for whatever's outside it, as she busies herself with getting the damn vest on.
[15:14] <Ai_Seigh> "That's... odd."
01[15:16] <@Shiki> Machi, as you head into the main room, you get a glimpse of it too; the faint glow of a light shining in the old abandoned power plant.
06[15:16] * Ai_Seigh heads back into her office and gets her jacket, making sure that the holster hidden in it stays where it should be.
06[15:18] * Ai_Seigh finds her way down to the parking lot after she does that, and drives over to the abandoned powerplant. Extra-carefully, though, considering that the traffic lights may be out.
06[15:18] * Catriona looks up and down the apartment hall, grumbling about faulty Americans and making her way out front to watch the snow at least.
[15:18] <Machi> "Huh... ok." Komachi finishes getting her stuff together and heads out, stopping at the Winchesters' floor.
06[15:18] * Raquel makes mental notes and double checks her equipment. Rosary, knife, pepper spray, pens and pencils, and flashlight in various pockets in her skirt and coat? Check. Books, a tape recorder, a camera, a notebook, the goggles, and a spare knife in her bag? Also check. Now she just needed to sit down and wait for whatever lurks the night to come near.
[15:19] <Machi> She waits there, certain that Raquel's nature will prevent her from sitting this out.
06[15:20] * Elys looks out the window, after another few minutes.
06[15:21] * Catriona shoves both hands in her pockets, watching snowflakes tumble down in the umbral city. "Is like dream."
[15:22] <Raquel> "... then again, I was informed that taking action is far preferable to keeping a reactive stance," changing her mind on waiting, ignoring her mother's advice, and going for the front door with all her equipment at the ready.
[15:24] <Raquel> "Well now, I guess I should not be surprised that you've come to be interested in this incident as well," opening the door to see Komachi there.
[15:25] <Machi> "Uh-huh." She leans against the railing, looking from the city back to Raquel. "You noticed the light at the plant?"
06[15:26] * Raquel makes a mental "Goddammit", in a much more prim manner in her mind of course, as she replies, "I am sorry, but I did not possess the presence of mind to check outside my room's window, and I thus saw no such light. Please inform me of what you saw."
[15:27] <Machi> "Only place in town that's lit up is at the abandoned power plant. An abandoned plant, when the city is all dark. That just happens to have ghost stories told about it."
[15:28] <Machi> "...not that I ever been there myself. So, let's go."
[15:29] <Raquel> "I see, that certainly is a sign pointing towards a paranormal occurence. Now...", dredging up knowledge of will-o-wisps and other such lights, "were the lights of an active building the only kind of lights you witnessed, or were there more?", following Komachi along.
01[15:30] <@Shiki> Cat, you see the lights in the distance, at the old, abandoned power plant.
06[15:31] * Catriona looks over her shoulder, watching the Winchester girl and someone else appear out front of the apartment. "You see lights, too, eh, little girl?"
06[15:31] * Ai_Seigh stops at an intersection and calls up Elys.
01[15:31] <@Shiki> Elys, your phone rings.
06[15:31] * Elys takes up the phone. "Hello?"
[15:32] <Machi> "Couldn't tell." Komachi nudges her. "Raquel, who's that?"
[15:32] <Ai_Seigh> "Elys. It's Ai. I think whatever's going on at the old power plant may be supernatural in nature."
[15:32] <Elys> "Old power plant?"
[15:32] <Raquel> "Ah," seeing that drunk Russian, "that was the associate I spoke of last week, the one who accompanied me to that old seer's house."
[15:33] <Machi> "Ah. The one who the seer tried to kill?"
[15:33] <Ai_Seigh> "Yeah. Abandoned a long time ago. There's safety in numbers, so... You willing to come with me and check it out?"
06[15:33] * Catriona turns halfway to face Komachi. "I am Catriona." Offering a gloved hand, she leaned closer.
[15:34] <Elys> "Sure." Not as though there's anything else to do, anywho. "Meet up there, or somewhere else beforehand?"
[15:34] <Machi> Komachi offers her own hand, "Call me 'Machi, the guys all do. So, we're off on a ghost hunt. Up for it?" She grins.
[15:35] <Raquel> "I assume so, being that you have stepped outside on this very night to presumably investigate *something*."
[15:35] <Catriona> "Always!"  Returning the grin, she thumbed towards her truck.  "'Machi girl have car?"
[15:36] <Machi> "Nope, just a poor joe worker. Happy to hop in yours."
[15:36] <Ai_Seigh> "Meet up...."
[15:36] <Catriona> "Alright.  Little girl can ride in middle."  Sweeping her hair back, she plodded off for the truck.
[15:37] <Ai_Seigh> "Yeah. At the plant itself. Do you need directions?"
[15:37] <Raquel> "Hopefully your driving will be a little less shaky this time, sober as you are currently," tagging along and into the vehicle.
[15:38] <Machi> Komachi follows along, stashing her scythe in the back.
[15:38] <Elys> Pause. Elys looks out the window, then shakes her head despite the lack of anyone seeing her. "I think I can make it there."
06[15:38] * Raquel whispers to Komachi, "The woman is a Russian, was it not immediately obvious. She claims to be a sniper of impeccable skill."
06[15:38] * Catriona hops in on the driver's side, unlocking the passenger's side manually. "You tell me where to turn." Starting up the truck, she waited for both to get seated comfortably before pulling out onto the road.
[15:39] <Elys> "Alright, meet you there." Elys hangs up and jumps on her bicycle as soon as she can.
01[15:39] <@Shiki> Ai arrives first.
06[15:40] * Raquel passes over a cellphone number to Komachi during the ride, the phone number of her mother, "You should leave a message to my mother that you'll be chaperoning for me. Remember to drop your name, as I'm sure my mother happens to know you," expecting her to have a cellphone.
01[15:40] <@Shiki> The plant itself is further away from the rest of the town, on a large hill.  The lights are faint, and only a few are on, but from here it's obvious.
[15:40] <Machi> "That'd work if I had a cell. Russka got a cell?"
[15:41] <Raquel> "Well, do you happen to own one, now?", asking from the back seat.
01[15:41] <@Shiki> Hell, you can hear the hum of generators out here.
[15:41] <Catriona> "Da."  Finding her lighter before she rummaged up her cellphone, she handed it off to Komachi.  "Is rugged."
[15:41] <Machi> "S'long as it works." She dials miss Winchester, as planned.
[15:42] <Raquel> "Any number that is not mine shall do."
01[15:42] <@Shiki> Riiiing.
01[15:42] <@Shiki> Riiing.
01[15:42] <@Shiki> "Hello?"  Ms. Winchester.
06[15:42] * Ai_Seigh sighs, then calls Machi.
01[15:43] <@Shiki> You guys see the power plant up ahead.
01[15:43] <@Shiki> Ai, the phone rings, and rings, and rings.
01[15:43] <@Shiki> Then an answering Machine.
[15:43] <Machi> "Hello, miss Winchester. It's Komachi, just calling to say Raquel's with me."
01[15:43] <@Shiki> "Oh?  Okay!  I'll come up and pick her up when I get back, thank you for watching her!"
06[15:43] * Ai_Seigh hangs up before the answering machine finishes its message.
01[15:43] <@Shiki> A cheerful voice.
[15:44] <Machi> "Any time. See you later."
06[15:44] * Catriona looks for anything resembling a parking lot.
01[15:44] <@Shiki> There... is something LIKE a parking lot.
01[15:44] <@Shiki> It's mostly overgrown and covered in weeds, though.
01[15:44] <@Shiki> You see a car near there, sitting in park.
[15:45] <Machi> She hands the cell back to Catriona after hanging up.
01[15:45] <@Shiki> Ai, you hear a truck pulling up.
06[15:45] * Catriona tucks the phone away, pulling up two spaces from the car. "Someone else?"
[15:46] <Machi> "Suspicious, ain't it? 'M getting out."
06[15:46] * Ai_Seigh shuts off the car.
06[15:46] * Ai_Seigh tries Machi's cell again.
01[15:47] <@Shiki> Ai, you see Machi get out of the other car.
06[15:47] * Catriona gets out after, turning the truck off and taking the key with her after locking up.
[15:47] <Ai_Seigh> "Well. This isn't really surprising."
06[15:47] * Raquel takes her time getting out of the car, careful not to catch her skirt or coat on one of the various bits sticking out of the chassis, and takes a full view of the power plant.
[15:47] <Machi> She grabs her scythe from the back, leaving it hanging behind her, thinking she'll feel really stupid if it's just a bunch of criminals and not a ghost, and she gets shot in the gut.
06[15:47] * Ai_Seigh gets out of the car, locking it before shutting the door.
01[15:48] <@Shiki> You see another woman, and a girl about 15 getting out of the car.
01[15:48] <@Shiki> Everyone else sees Ai get out.  Machi recognizes her.
06[15:48] * Catriona offers a wave to Ai. "You come to see lights, too?"
01[15:48] <@Shiki> Nvm.
[15:48] <Ai_Seigh> "More or less."
01[15:49] <@Shiki> It's around now that Elys finally bikes up.
[15:49] <Raquel> "Would you happen to know of this woman, by any chance? She seems to know you," over to 'Machi.
[15:49] <Machi> Huh. Business lady? "Hm... we met before? Your voice is kinda familiar."
01[15:49] <@Shiki> Elys, you see 4 other women, only one of whom you recognize; Ai.
[15:50] <Ai_Seigh> "I'm Ai Seigh. Which would make you Kristina Onozuka."
[15:50] <Machi> "Aha!"
[15:50] <Machi> She half-turns back to Raquel, "She's a lawyer, but she also had an encounter like us."
06[15:50] * Elys gets off her bike and approaches the group on foot, although she brings her bike alongside.
06[15:51] * Catriona keeps a hand in her pistol pocket, tracing her fingers along the grip. "Eh? Is everyone coming to see lights?"
[15:51] <Ai_Seigh> "There's a chance it's supernatural."
[15:51] <Raquel> "I see, I see, it comforts me to know that we three were not the only ones in the know of the hidden world," speaking to Komachi and Cat.
[15:52] <Elys> "I didn't even know there was an abandoned power plant before now, but, this is certainly quite a gathering. Heya."
[15:52] <Machi> "Uh-huh. I guess that one's with us, too?" She gestures to Elys.
[15:52] <Ai_Seigh> "Yes."
[15:53] <Machi> "Had a run-in with a monster?"
[15:53] <Ai_Seigh> "A werewolf to be exact."
[15:53] <Machi> Komachi whistles. "Sounds nasty."
[15:53] <Elys> "... It turned back into a guy after I killed it. It didn't end well."
06[15:53] * Raquel closes her eyes, shutting out the rest of the conversation, that sense of salt and brimstone ringing fresh in her mind.
[15:53] <Catriona> "Agh!  I would rather a wolf than crazy old lady!"
[15:54] <Machi> "Ah, that sounds kinda... inconvenient. Mine turned into goo and evaporated."
[15:54] <Ai_Seigh> "I... ended up getting her convicted for five years."
06[15:54] * Ai_Seigh sounds a bit sheepish at that.
[15:54] <Ai_Seigh> "She's on parole now, though."
[15:54] <Machi> "Oh, Ai, they're uh... I'm off the hook for Joe, right?"
[15:54] <Machi> "I didn't get another call about that, but I wasn't sure."
[15:55] <Ai_Seigh> "You are, as far as I know."
[15:55] <Elys> "I don't hold a grudge. The therapist isn't a bad person."
[15:55] <Machi> "Whew. Ok."
[15:55] <Ai_Seigh> "So. Elys, this is Kristina Onozuka, Kristina, Elys."
[15:56] <Machi> "Call me 'Machi. Pleased ta meet ya, wolf-hunter." She shifts the scythe to her left shoulder, extending her right hand.
[15:56] <Ai_Seigh> "So. Who'd you drag along?"
06[15:57] * Ai_Seigh gestures toward Raq and Cat.
06[15:57] * Elys takes it, shaking it. "You can just call me El if you want, then. What exactly was yours?"
[15:57] <Machi> "Oh? This is uh--Catriona, and Raquel, who lives in my building. Raquel knows demons, and she--" She then notices that Raquel is doing... something, and quiets down.
06[15:57] * Raquel opens her eyes, after having focused her spiritual senses, "Ah, my apologies, my mind and senses were preoccupied with pinpointing the location of a spirit. Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Raquel Winchester, aspiring occultist and demonologist."
[15:58] <Ai_Seigh> "I see."
06[15:58] * Ai_Seigh offers her hand to Raquel.
[15:58] <Machi> "Yeah. She does that." She hides her own surprise. "Don't know what mine was, except it had a lot of teeth and scales and fur and kinda looked like an ape."
[15:59] <Machi> "Ah wait, it was in that book. Raquel, what was it called?"
06[15:59] * Raquel accepts the handshake from Ai, as she replies snidely to Komachi, "I believe I educated you on what a shadow hound was."
[16:00] <Elys> "And it melted? Sounds like buckets of lovely mixed up." Elys looks over to Raquel. "Nice to meet you."
[16:00] <Machi> "Tch, like I could remember half the craziness you rambled over three weeks ago."
06[16:01] * Raquel responds with a simple "To you as well," to Elys.
[16:01] <Ai_Seigh> "It really is easier when it disappears somehow. A corpse is just plain incriminating."
[16:02] <Machi> "Yeah. Good thing Joe wasn't killed by something resembling a tank of propane and a sledgehammer, too."
06[16:02] * Elys looks over at Catriona. "Crazy old lady?"
[16:02] <Machi> "So, Raquel, where's the spirit?"
[16:02] <Catriona> "Da.  She try to cut me open for bread."
[16:03] <Raquel> "Inside the building we are standing and introducing ourselves in front of, of course. Yes, I am well aware that such information is not of much use currently, but once we are inside, I should be able to dowse a more precise location."
06[16:03] * Catriona turns for the building. "Then we go say hi!"
[16:03] <Elys> "That sounds pretty surreal."
06[16:03] * Catriona plods straight for the plant.
[16:03] <Raquel> "Though, much of the residual spirit energy is centered around the front of the building, that is, immediately beyond the front entrance."
[16:03] <Ai_Seigh> "If it's the cause of this outage, yes."
01[16:04] <@Shiki> And so the newly created group met their first obsticle.
01[16:04] <@Shiki> The front gate.
01[16:04] <@Shiki> It's locked, with quite a large padlock.
[16:05] <Raquel> "I don't suppose any of us is versed in the art of roguish lockpicking, are any of us?", holding her chin with her hand.
[16:05] <Raquel> *are
[16:05] <Elys> "... Anyone got a paperclip?"
[16:05] <Elys> Or similar."
[16:06] <Raquel> "I believe I have a variety of pencils and pens on hand. Will that be adequate?"
[16:06] <Elys> "IIII don't think so. Something small, slender, and malleable."
06[16:06] * Catriona lifts the lock to examine. "I could shoot?"
[16:06] <Elys> "Like a pin."
[16:07] <Raquel> "I am not so certain that firing a very loud and very inconspicuous firearm in the dead of night would be such a wise course of action," giving Catriona a disappointed glare.
[16:08] <Raquel> *conspicuous
06[16:08] * Ai_Seigh digs in her pockets and pulls out a paperclip.
[16:08] <Ai_Seigh> "I don't suppose this would do?"
06[16:08] * Catriona shrugs, taking a step back.
[16:09] <Elys> "Yeah, that would." Elys takes it. "Thanks. Now, let's see if I can do this. I didn't do it much, and it's been a while, so, I'm probably pretty rusty. I'll take a shot, though."
01[16:10] <@Shiki> After a minute or so of fiddling....
01[16:10] <@Shiki> *Crack*
01[16:10] <@Shiki> Part of the paperclip breaks.
01[16:10] <@Shiki> You can probably remove the rest and try again with another, though.
06[16:10] * Ai_Seigh digs deeper into her pockets, pulling out another one.
06[16:10] * Elys slides it back out, frowning. "Do you have any others...?"
[16:11] <Ai_Seigh> "I don't think I have too many of these."
[16:11] <Elys> "Sorry. I'll try harder."
06[16:11] * Raquel notices the girl having trouble with the lock. "I may have no experience in such processes, but I may be able to offer my aid nevertheless, so allow me to guide you."
06[16:11] * Ai_Seigh hands Elys the paperclip.
01[16:12] <@Shiki> Elys, your second go at it pops open the lock; and the paperclip still is intact!
01[16:13] <@Shiki> The padlock pops open.
06[16:13] * Elys quietly removes the lockpick, and then the padlock.
[16:13] <Elys> "I think we're good. Mind if I keep this, though? Could come in handy."
01[16:13] <@Shiki> There's a chain, too.
[16:14] <Catriona> Independent of the door?
[16:14] <Catriona> **padlock?
01[16:14] <@Shiki> Yep.
01[16:14] <@Shiki> Padlock keeps it wrapped around the gate.
01[16:14] <@Shiki> The chain and lock seem fairly new, though; not nearly as old as the gate.
06[16:15] * Raquel takes a good look at the chain, thinking of possible ways to surmount this obstacle, before reaching what she deems to be the best course of action. "I am well aware that brute force is not the solution to every problem, but in this case, it may very well be what is required."
[16:16] <Raquel> "Or I suppose the chain is removable."
06[16:17] * Elys takes the chain.
01[16:18] <@Shiki> After taking the chain, the gate is now unsecured.
[16:18] <Machi> Komachi carefully opens the gate.
[16:18] <Elys> "This could be useful later..."
01[16:19] <@Shiki> The gate opens.
01[16:19] <@Shiki> Beyond, the front door.
06[16:20] * Catriona pulls her pistol from her pocket, heading for the main door.
[16:20] <Ai_Seigh> "I really do hope that this isn't what we're making it out to be."
01[16:20] <@Shiki> The front door itself is heavy and made of metal.
[16:21] <Raquel> "Why do you so dearly hope that it is not? Surely, it would be a great wonder for us to stumble upon another emissary of the mystic world, would it not?"
01[16:21] <@Shiki> Chipped, blue paint covers it, indicating decades of age.
[16:22] <Ai_Seigh> "No. Because if it's causing this outage somehow, we have to stop it. Forcefully, if need be."
[16:22] <Machi> "Hmm... We go in quiet?"
[16:22] <Elys> "Great wonder? If this one doesn't try to kill us, sure..."
06[16:22] * Catriona takes the knob, turning as quietly as the old machinations would allow.
[16:23] <Machi> Komachi goes to the other side of the door from Catriona.
[16:23] <Raquel> "I never once said that slaying the creature would be a bad idea. And of course, we should attempt to carry ourselves lightly and quietly."
01[16:23] <@Shiki> The door opens quietly, swinging open to show a barely lit lobby.  A single receptionist's desk, several chairs, and the smell of a rotting corpse.
01[16:24] <@Shiki> Inside, directly inside, you see the dead body of a man in a gray jumpsuit, face-down in his own coagulated, dried blood.
01[16:24] <@Shiki> The slight hum of the generators is a little louder in here.
[16:24] <Elys> "Oh, now that's a nice welcome. So much for 'peaceful' angle."
[16:25] <Raquel> "You cannot expect to venture beyond the world's curtain and receive peaceful imagery, you know," surveying the surroundings.
01[16:25] <@Shiki> "Pine Groves Electric."
01[16:25] <@Shiki> Is on his back.
