  1. >Day Minotaur in Equestria.
  2. >Holding the paper plane tight, you wait for Manny to pick a spot for the two toys to land.
  3. >”Hmmm... How about... there!”
  4. >He points to right by his mom's garden.
  5. “Won't she be mad if we accidentally get them in her roses?”
  6. >Your best friends chuckles, lining his plane up.
  7. >”Only IF we hit them, Hope.”
  8. >Good point.
  9. >Lining your plane up as well, you wait for him to count down.
  10. >”On your mark... get set... go!”
  11. >The two of you throw the planes, having them glide across the air towards his mom's garden.
  12. >”Go Thunderhead!”
  13. “Come on Flash, go go go!”
  14. >Your planes begin to bob up and down, almost at their destination.
  15. >Manny's begins to drop and hit right before the garden.
  16. >”No!”
  17. “Yes!”
  18. >It looks good as Flash about to land perfectly.
  19. >Aaaand the wind just blew it to the side, into the roses!
  20. “Uh oh.”
  21. >Your minotaur friend stiffens up for a bit before running to the bush.
  22. >He circles around it a couple times.
  23. >”I-It's okay! It landed in the thorns. None of the flowery parts got hit.”
  24. >Sighing, you step next to him.
  25. “Is it stuck?”
  26. >He nods his head, trying to pull the plane out without ripping it.
  27. >You notice his hands are shaking a lot.
  28. >Furrowing your brow, you take the initiative and free the plane from it's rosy prison.
  29. >”Hope!”
  30. >”What about Hope deary?”
  31. >The two of you look to backdoor.
  32. >His mom is stepping outside, a platter with sweets in her hands.
  33. >”N-Nothing mom! Just showing Hope your roses again.”
  34. >The tall minotaur lady lets off a soft laugh and walks up to you two.
  35. >”If you like them so much Hope, you could always bring your camera over and take a picture.”
  36. >She offers you and Manny the various sweet pastries on the platter.
  37. >Manny is quick to grab a honey bun as you reach for a sugarcoated roll.
  38. >As your friend digs into his snack, you look up to his mom and smile.
  39. >”Thank you Mrs. Von Karma. I'll bring it next time I come over.”
  40. >She gives you a nod and leaves the platter with you two.
  41. >Before you can take your first bite, Manny is already starting on his second bun.
  42. “I still can't figure out how you can eat so fast.”
  43. >He swallows what's in his mouth before covering it.
  44. >”My father says that I am getting ready to go through a growth spurt so I am going to be eating a lot more than usual. He also said that's why my belly and chest start to hurt randomly.”
  45. >You nod and finally bite into the roll.
  46. >Mmm!
  47. >Sweeeeeet.
  48. >This is almost as good as the stuff your mom bakes.
  49. >While chewing on the roll, you think about what Manny said.
  50. >Dad said growth spurts happen right before you go into that -in between- phase.
  51. >That phase where you stop being a kid and start becoming an adult.
  52. >He said it could last a few years and was really awkward.
  53. >Like accidentally calling the teacher mom or dad awkward.
  54. >He never said why though.
  55. >You asked him, like, a hundred times and you always get the same answer.
  56. >'When you're older.'
  57. >You want to be older now though.
  58. >It always seems like everyone knows things you don't and no one wants to tell you those things.
  59. >”Hope?”
  60. >Looking to Manny, you give him a questioning hum as you continue on your roll.
  61. >”You zoned out. You all right?”
  62. >Nodding, you keep eating.
  63. >”Okay then. Wanna go inside and play with my pony blocks?”
  64. >You can't nod fast enough.
  65. >Pony blocks are the best!
  66. >Dad always calls them legos though.
  67. >You like that name better.
  68. >Doesn't have pony in it.
  69. >As the two of you head inside, Manny grabs the platter.
  70. >He continues grabbing sweets as he finishes them off one by one.
  71.
  72.
  73. >”Prince Baterholms! I demand to be allowed in the castle.”
  74. >Manny is moving his pony block stallion closer to the awesome colored castle you built.
  75. “On what grounds Sir Sliffer?”
  76. >You have your own stallions and mares lining the castle walls, just like the princesses' castle, keeping it safe from any invading Changelings.
  77. >”On the grounds I come with a gift!”
  78. >Manny places one of the pastry crumbs next to his stallion.
  79. “Hmmm. Only a single crumb?”
  80. >You chuckle as the Minotaur groans and places a whole cherry bread slice next to the toy.
  81. “Ah! Better. Okay, I will lower the bridge!”
  82. >Putting the book you were using as a bridge down slowly, you make little *klnk klnk klnk* sounds to mimic chains.
  83. >”Hoorah!”
  84. >Manny moves his stallion and the bread inside.
  85. “Tonight, we feast!”
  86. >The two of you mimic the ponies eating the bread.
  87. >As you do, the sound of the front door closing rings throughout the house.
  88. >”Uh oh...”
  89. >He lifts the bread and puts it on the platter, cleaning the crumbs when he's done.
  90. >The loud hoofsteps of his dad fill the house as he heads towards Manny's room.
  91. >As the door opens, you stand up next to Manny.
  92. >”Manfred, get dressed, we a-... Hope.”
  93. >He looks at you with his usual gruff expression.
  94. “Hi, Mr. Von Karma.”
  95. >”Hello sir...”
  96. >Manny is standing straight, trying to pull his stomach in as he does.
  97. >His dad looks to you for a second longer before switching to Manny.
  98. >”Get dressed. We are heading out in fifteen minutes.”
  99. >He closes the door and his hoofsteps recede.
  100. >Once the steps are quiet enough, Manny sighs and lets go of his gut.
  101. >The Minotaur looks winded.
  102. >He then goes to his closet and looks through his clothes.
  103. “Manny?”
  104. >He stops his search, looking back to you.
  105. >”Sorry Hope. I don't think we can play anymore today.”
  106. >Frowning, you nod and head out of his room so he can change.
  107. >As you head towards the living room you pass Manny's mom, who places her hand on your shoulder.
  108. >”Hope, deary, I'm sorry but we have to head out soon.”
  109. >Looking up to the tall woman, you nod.
  110. “I know. Manny's dad said so.”
  111. >She gives you a great big smile and follows you as you head to the door.
  112. >”It's always wonderful having you over Hope. We'll see you again soon, right?”
  113. >You make sure to grab the toys you brought before actually stepping out the door.
  114. >Looking back, you nod.
  115. “Uh huh. Thanks for having me over Mrs. Von Karma!”
  116. >She waves to you as you step down from their porch.
  117. >”Do you need help walking home?”
  118. “Nuh uh, I can walk home by myself. Bye bye!”
  119. >The mother Minotaur continues to watch you as you are in her view, pressing a hand to her mouth.
  120. >Holding your toys close, you pass a few ponies as you walk the two blocks from Manny's house to yours.
  121. >Stepping inside, you are greeted by your mom.
  122. >”Hi sweetie, how was Manny's?”
  123. >You close the door and go to sit next to her.
  124. “It was fun mom. Is dad home yet?”
  125. >She shakes her head, looking back to the front door.
  126. >”Did anyone drop you off?”
  127. >Scrunching up a bit, you look down and don't answer.
  128. >Mom gives you that look she gets when she gives you talks.
  129. >”Hope Lydia Heartstrings.”
  130. >You look up, eyes locked with your mom's.
  131. >”What have I told you about walking around by yourself?”
  132. “Not to... b-but I'm not a little kid anymore! I'm almost nine!”
  133. >”I know you aren't a little filly, but it's dangerous to walk alone for a child.”
  134. >You look down again.
  135. “I don't need to be looked after all the time.”
  136. >Mom sighs, draping a hoof over your shoulder.
  137. >”I know... but I feel better knowing someone, pony or otherwise, is keeping an eye on you. Making sure my baby is safe.”
  138. >She plants a kiss on your forehead and you rub it off.
  139. ”I'm not a baby...”
  140. >Your mom finally cracks a smile.
  141. >”You'll always be my baby. Now come on, your dad will be home soon, I'm sure he'll want to see your homework when he steps in.”
  142. >Nodding, you stand up and head to your room, going to grab your homework for today.
  143. >What's the big deal about you walking home anyway?
  144. >Canterlot is safe, that's why mom and dad moved here, right?
