- Dear Coinbase,
- NOTE THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM ATTORNEY LEONNEL IRUKE OF EMPIRE LEGAL
- PLEASE CC YOUR COMPANIES COUNSEL UPON RECEIPT:
- This is Counselor Leonnel Iruke, on behalf of my client Valton Eason. He has informed me that you have locked up his Bitcoin account (coin base) related to some privacy and financial control procedures, associated with a missing email address verification (basically he had or may have had 1 or more coin base accounts). He has informed me that he provided you about 99% of what was asked but you have not gotten back to him, in any respect nor have you given him an alternative. As an online based business, dealing with financial transactions you are aware that a person cannot merely walk into your location and show ID, such as they would in a Bank if something like this happened when trying to access an account from a remote location such as online or via the phone. As a result you need to have alternative forms of identification verification in order to properly resolve missing information, to verify the person you are speaking to is indeed your actual customer. Here Mr. Eason is clearly a coin base customer trying to sell BTC from an account that you have allowed him to receive BTC. I don't understand how you allow him to receive, but you do not allow him to send, it seems contradictory to the financial privacy (AML compliance rules) you are stating are genuinely being protected.
- Alternatively, you should not lock up his account if he able to provide identity on the primary account in question. Its like penalizing him for having a bad memory with no recourse other than to sue, and alert the media.
- Notwithstanding, I would like to resolve this matter, amicably as soon as possible as it seems unlike Coinbase, to engage anything less than above board (nor am I accusing of the same). I presume you have a copy of Mr. Eason's ID, or if not he is happy to provide the same. Alternatively, I see from your site that you have alternative identification procedures to prove identity. You are also asking for 5 to 7 fields of information, which seems a bit extreme in cases such as this where the person knows some but maybe not all of the information required such (as email addresses that may or may not have ever been used to transact anything on behalf of your site)but they should recall it either way, in order to verify their identity. If they cannot do that I presume you have other alternatives, you can use to resolve this matter, and release his money, as this would be a foolish case to take to court, as you understand your client's concerns and how to easily resolve them. Alternatively, Mr. Eason can get on Skype to prove his identity. Get on a phone call and give vital information, or in the extreme case he will show up in your office (at your expense) to prove his identity.
- We need a quick resolution to this, I am giving this until September 14th, 2015 to have this issue resolved.
- Do not ignore this email.
- Thanks,
