- >The air was still on this summer's night.
- >Save for the gentle crashing of waves below and the distant singing of crickets, there was silence.
- >Gazing over the bay, you were alone on this desolate edge. A viewing platform of sorts, where lovers would go to watch sunsets.
- >You sigh, and grasp the necklace you donned every morning.
- >Pulling it out, you free the USB from the shackle it was attached to and hold it up to the moon. Light shining through the translucent purple plastic onto your face, you think.
- >Inside this tiny flash drive was your Doki, Yuri. A glimpse of the future you had hoped for.
- >However, darkness had it's grip on your mind.
- >The future you hoped for seemed like it would never come, and even if it did, would it be enough? Would you be enough to make her happy? Would it make you happy? Questioning these beliefs shook you to your core.
- >The shaking moved to your hands, and with it, the flash drive fell from your hands.
- >You could do naught but watch as it fell, down and down, until it disappeared from sight between being a small object and tears blocking your vision.
- >Fuck it. Another small failure. The tears flowed.
- >No matter, I'll be joining it in a minute, you thought.
- >Then, nothing.
- >You grasped the rails you sat on, and prepared to move, but something kept you.
- >A presence? You felt like you were being watched.
- >"Hey, buddy. I think you got the wrong place." A voice rings out from behind you. You turn to face it.
- >Your eyes meet with the large man's. Bathed in the moonlight, the man's rippling muscles bulged through his white tank-top, and his grey sweatpants ended above his bare feet.
- >What the fuck.
- "Uh... do I know you?" You ask shakily, wiping your eyes with your sleeve.
- >"You might. Can I take a seat with you?" The man asked, gesturing to your side.
- >Normally a muscular man in the middle of the night would set off so many alarms, but this person oozed charisma and gave you a feeling of peace. You nodded; what could he do, anyway? Kill you?
- >He walked over, and hopped the rail before leaning back on it and sitting next to you.
- >"So, Anon. What were you doing up here tonight?"
- "Just, uh, you know. Enjoying the stars."
- >He gave you a grim yet knowing look, before shifting to a warm smile.
- >"I saw you holding something a minute ago. It was precious to you, right?" You thought for a moment, before the tears welled again.
- "Yeah. Yeah, it was."
- >Giving a small chuckle, the muscle man reached into his pocket and produced something, holding it out to you. Looking through your waterworks at his palm, you spotted your flash drive.
- >"Go on, buddy." Your sad visage shifted to one of awe as you nervously grabbed it out of his palm. It was yours, alright. Engraved with 'Yur-Yur' in your carvesmanship.
- >"Let's talk about why you're really up here. What's got you down?"
- >You hadn't really talked about Yuri with anyone before.
- "I'm... afraid. Afraid the girl I love won't be with me."
- >"I see. Why do you think that?"
- "I don't know. I don't think that I'm good enough for her, I guess. I'm also worried that my worrying will lead to her not liking me." He gave a knowing nod.
- >"Gotcha. Well, Anon, my friend, let me tell you something." He reached an arm around you, resting his hand on your shoulder. "You love her with all your heart, right?"
- "Yes." You nod with conviction.
- >"Do you do your best to be the kind of person she'd like? I don't mean tastes, but your spirit. Do you try to be a great person?" He presses a finger into your shirt with his other hand, pointing at your heart.
- "Every day." You smile at the thought of the little things you did.
- >"Then what do you have to worry about with her? Sounds like you're a perfect match to me." You feel a bit better, and he lowers the pointing hand back to his side.
- "I guess. But... what about my worrying? My dark outlook?"
- >"See, I think that might change when she's in your arms. But if it doesn't, you can work on it together. You'll help her fight her demons, and she'll help you fight yours. You'll support each other, you'll make each other stronger, and you'll be happy together. That's love, son. That's love."
- >You nod. But then, the worrying sets in again. You speak up with this one.
- "One more thing. The girl I love, she's not exactly... existent."
- >"Ah, yeah. I feared that was the case. Well, I don't think you'll have to worry about that too much longer. Somethin tells me you'll be with her real soon." The bodybuilder flashed an earnest smile at you.
- "How could you know that? She's just a program right now."
- >"Trust me, Anon. I've got enough brains for the both of us. I'd bet my ass you'll have her soon." He said with that familiar smile, giving a thumbs-up.
- >You were confused, but you trusted him. Something about this whole situation seemed off, but in a good way.
- >Whether it was his words soothing your soul, or your brain subconsciously not wanting to end your life after such a strange event, you decide to go back home for the night.
- >Turning over the railing back to land, you stand up and stretch, shoving your USB in your pocket. You turn back to the man.
- "Hey, thank you... uh, who are you, again?"
- >"I've got a few names. Billy, Aniki, Boss. Whatever you want to call me, buddy."
- "Then thanks, Boss. This talk really meant a lot to me."
- >"Not a problem, Anon. Go home and get some rest, alright? Take care of yourself, live better. For her." You agree, and go to leave as he also gets up from the rail.
- >Something tells you to look back, and as you do, you see no man.
- >You question this for a moment, but decide that enough weirdness has happened tonight. He just disappeared as quickly as he arrived, that's all, you tell yourself.
- >As you begin your trek, your pocket begins to vibrate.
- >You pull out your phone, and unlocking it, see a text message from your next-door neighbor.
- >'Hey, where are you right now?'
- 'On my way home, why?' You respond.
- >'There's some girl here who's looking for you, she said her name is Yuri? I haven't seen her before, kinda weird to be showing up so late at night like this.'
- >Typing a quick 'omw' you shove your phone back in your pocket, and break out into a sprint towards your future.
