Mice and Men Notes:
Chapter 1: Lennie as more natural and George as more “civilized”. Top notch descriptions of the environment.
Chapter 2: Old man and the dog as parallel to George and Lennie (especially with Carlson talking about getting the old man to shoot his dog and replace it with one of Slim’s puppies)? Not worth dealing with the inconveniences of relationships, just replacing the old with the new? Ranch owner is a “nice guy” despite picking on workers and letting his son do whatever he wants (nepotism or just family looking out for each other?)
 “Ain’t many guys travel around together. I don’t know why. Maybe ever’body in the whole damn world is scared of each other” quote from Slim

Chapter 3:
	Intelligence/knowledge of the civilized world as evil
		“Guys don’t need no sense to be a nice fella. Seems to me sometimes it jus’ works the other way around. Take a real smart guy and he ain’t hardly ever a nice fella”
	Shooting Candy’s dog.
	“The thing they had never really believed in was coming true” – even an empty hope can motivate you, but this is immediately followed by Candy wallowing in how the elderly/no longer useful are just abandoned.

Chapter 4:
	Lennie and Crooks as two outcasts.
	“A guy needs somebody- to be near him. A guy goes nuts if he ain’t got nobody. Don’t make no difference who the guy is, long’s he’s with you. I tell ya. I tell ya a guy gets too lonely and’ he gets sick”

“Everybody wants a little bit of land, not much. Jus’ some’thin’ that was his. Somethin’ he could live on and there couldn’t nobody throw him off of it”
	Curley’s wife as high society – picking on the simple-minded like Lennie and reinforcing hierarchy with Crooks?
Chapter 5
RIP Puppy
Curley’s wife venting to Lennie (not even husband and wife can truly communicate with each other)
RIP Wife

Chapter 6
Back and forth between hopeful for a happy ending and fearing the worst.
Just kind of felt like shit after George killed Lennie. Very well done scene.
