  1. The Angel and the Heroes
  2. By Cameron R.C. Duncan
  3. Chapter 1: Enter the Angel
  4. It was a light but gloomy day. I was on my way to town to get stuff for my 20th birthday. Paper plates, shot glasses, cups; everything you need for a real party. Then I heard footsteps running from behind me.
  5. "RUN!" A woman yelled, sprinting towards me. "It's coming!"
  6. "Huh? What is?" I asked, confused.
  7. "Half man, Half Bull!!" She replied, before sprinting down the street.
  8. Then I saw it: a Minotaur. Just like she said, half man-half bull.
  9. There were people running past us too quickly for us to discern their faces.
  10. I wanted to run but I couldn't. I didn't know why, but I ran towards it. I felt something pulling me in. I couldn't stop myself.
  11. Before I knew it, I was face to face with those big brown beedy eyes, big black horns just above it's ears. I could smell it's breath and feel it on my face; it smelt like rotten flesh.
  12. It was about to smash me into oblivion until an arrow struck it in the chest at the point where it's heart was.
  13. "You should be a bit careful, young one,” a deep voice said from behind me.
  14. I looked behind me and jumped 3 feet back.
  15. "Who are you?" I asked.
  16. "Oh, I am sorry, where are my manners, I am Chiron the Centaur." He replied.
  17. Chiron is described as a middle-aged man from the waist up, with thinning brown hair, bushy eyebrows, intense brown eyes and a scruffy beard grown longer in the winter. His lower half is that of a white stallion.
  18. "And you must be Cameron- well it's a pleasure to meet you!"
  19. He bowed down with one arm across his chest and the other across his back, with his front right leg knelt down, almost in subservience.
  20. "The pleasure is...all mine", I said, not expecting his arrival.
  21. I mean, I have always wanted to meet a Centaur after all, I pondered to my self.
  22. Someone tapped me on my shoulder and it made me jump. I turned around and saw someone standing there. He was short, with short, messy brown hair, bright brown eyes, and wearing what seemed to be a red zip-up hoodie and an orange t-shirt with a winged horse on it, along with blue jagged jeans.
  23. "Oh hey Jo." I said "Where did you come from?"
  24. Jo is short for Jordan, my older brother. Jordan is 21- a year older than me. He is the son of Hepheastus, the god of fire and blacksmiths. So, just like me- except I'm not a demi-god.
  25. "I came with Chiron to bring you home," he replied.
  26. "Home? I am Home", I said, confused.
  27. They both laughed and Chiron pulled me onto his back. Before we knew it, we were in the middle of a forest heading towards an arch made out of trees and stone. All of a sudden, me and Jordan went flying off Chiron's back into the archway, and right into the middle of a group of people wearing full metal armour, which looked bronze and well worn, as if it has been through innumerable battles.
  28. "Oh, hey Clarisse. Long time, no see..." Jordan said sarcastically.
  29. "Valdez, why did you come flying through the arch and wheres Chiron?" the girl at the front of the group asked.
  30. "Oh, the centaur? Yeah, he kinda went down outside of the arch, something pulled on his leg and we came flying into you. Perfectly normal,” I said nervously.
  31. Their group glared at me as if to say, Who said you could speak, peasant?
  32. "What is this creature and what is he saying?" Clarisse asked Jordan.
  33. "This is my little brother, Cameron; and what he's saying is true. Chiron got taken down by something we didn't see." Jordan said
  34. They all ran outside of the arch yelling and we followed. We saw Chiron going face to face with a giant which was coming up from the ground. And then another one, and another one. They all looked like they has just taken a dive through the sewers and were ready for some lunch. The one on the right has purple hair, with locks and bones holding them in place, and wearing a leopard print leotard. He has reddish skin, like it was stained with blood. The one on the left was taller but skinnier, and wearing the same thing. He has a tiger print leotard, yellow skin and pink hair instead of purple. The last one in the middle has a full suit on and has greenish skin with a black leotard on, which looked like that of a jaguar; and he has pale brown hair. I looked down at their feet, but they weren't wearing any shoes. Instead, they has what looked to be the feet of a dragon.
  35. "Look out!" Jordan yelled, as a fire ball flew straight at me.
  36. "It's fine, remember?" I gestured to the fire which I has just conjured in my hand.
  37. "Oh, right yeah- go for it!" he said.
  38. I lit my body on fire and strode toward the giants.
  39. "Ha!", a loud grumbling came from the middle one, "Is this the best you got?" He bellowed while shaking the earth.
  40. "No, this is!" I yelled and spread my wings, flying up to his eye level.
  41. "You want a fire match, you'll get one!"
  42. He looked shocked and excited at the same time.
  43. "You are nothing compared to me!" his voice boomed. "I will squash you like the puny insect you are, demigod!"
  44. "Wrong. I'm not a God, I'm an Angel; but I'm still a demi!" I shouted back, hearing gasps coming from below me. "And I will defeat you with not just fire, but with ice as well!"
  45. I felt myself getting hotter and hotter, with anger building inside of me.
  46. "You shall not harm any of these demi-gods, I will put a stop to you and your brothers!" I said.
  47. Then I let out a scream and blue flames came rushing from me, slicing the giant to pieces and burrowing underground again. Then I felt myself falling and hitting the floor.
  48. "Cam!" I heard Jordan shout, as his voice began fading away as I lost consciousness.
  49. I woke up with Jordan and my half brother, Leo Mijo standing at the end of my bed.
  50. "Oh, hey guys. How are you?" I said groaning.
  51. "How are we? How are you, you twit!?" Jordan said angrily.
  52. They both stared at me like I has done something untoward. Well I did blow myself up, but that's besides the point.
  53. "Yeah, what was that out there? you were out for 3 days and we have been so worried!" Leo said.
  54. Leo looks like a Latino Santa's elf, with curly black hair, dark brown eyes, pointy ears, a cheerful, elf like face, normally with a mischievious and impish smile, and a diminutive stature with a slim and relatively scrawny build.
  55. "Don't be too hard on him, he did save the camp after all," a girl spoke behind Jordan and Leo.
  56. "Annabeth, I thought you were out looking for monsters?" Leo said
  57. "Annabeth Chase, Daughter of Athena, The holder of the Mark of Athena," I said chuckling, then wincing with pain as my wounds became more apparent.
  58. Annabeth has tanned skin, a great figure, and looks very athletic. She has long curly blonde hair, stormy grey eyes, Orange Camp Half-Blood t-shirt, amd her magical Yankees cap, she also has a streak of grey in her hair due to the stress of all her quests she has been on.
  59. They all looked at me as if I has said something wrong.
  60. "What, do I have something on my face?" I asked jokingly.
  61. "How did you know that?" Annabeth asked.
  62. "I do know these two quite well, you know. Leo talks about his adventures all the time. And he told me all about your solo mission; how you has to face Arachne and save the Athena Parthenos- then you and Jersey feel into the pits of Tartarus and has to survive off of the River Phlegethon. And I also heard of you asking your Giant friend Bob to help you and protect you from the heat, and all the cuts on your body." I said talking, having to take a deep breath afterwards.
  63. Jordan and Annabeth stared at Leo and started to shout at him, and I began to laugh at the fact that they didn't know Leo was sending me letters and telling me about their adventures.
  64.

  67. Chapter 2: Life Vs Death
  68. When I recovered, the nurse told me that everyone has gone to the cafeteria for some lunch, and that they always sit on the same table right next to the main doors. I walked over to the cafeteria and sat down next to Annabeth and Leo.
  69. “Hey guys,” I said. “I'm sorry about torching the forest,” I said, nervously looking at everyone.
  70. “It's fine,” Annabeth said. “Jersey managed to put out the fires around the camp.”
  71. “Awesome, so what are we going to do about the giants then?” I asked.
  72. “You torched them remember?” An Asian guy said, standing next to Annabeth. He has a large stocky frame, a babyish face, brown eyes with just the spark of wit, and close-cropped black hair. He has a tattoo of two spears above the words SPQR on his fore arm. “Oh, I'm Frank by the way, Frank Zhang. I am the son of Mars, god of war,” he said.
  73. “They didn't fry, they just got a few scratches and burrowed underground again. For all we know they could still be burrowing under our feet as we speak,” I told him. “Oh. And are you Roman, because you said Mars not Ares?”
  74. They all stared at me as if I was crazy, and I thought that I might be wrong, but Mars is the Roman counter part to Ares god of war.
  75. “How do you know all this, did Leo tell you it or something?” someone behind me asked. It was Jersey Paxon, son of Poseidon, god of the sea. Jersey has jet black hair.
  76. “Oh, no I just know a lot about Greek and Roman gods...” I replied. “Although, I have heard a lot about you, Jersey- all good things of course.”
  77. “What if he's a spy?” A pale kid was sitting on the next table across from us alone.
  78. “I mean we don't really know him, so what if he led the giants straight to us and now we are surrounded by monsters?” His name is Nico Di Angelo, son of Hades, god of the Underworld. He has black hair that always looks as if has just gotten out of bed, olive coloured skin; he wears black clothing with skeletal designs; he has a Stygian steel sword strapped to his waist and a silver skull ring on his left middle finger. He also has black eyes which seem miles away when he is in a crowd.
  79. “Nico, that was one person and he is gone now, for good!” Annabeth proclaimed.
  80. “Yes, that's what you think, but how do you know he is actually gone and not just stored away in that underground cave you found trying to save Grover. Plus, you know Luke is good with fitting through gaps, being the son of Hermes and all,” he said.
  81. Hermes is the god of roads, messengers and thieves.
  82. “I know he can be unpredictable, but my brother is not a spy for the monsters. Before we got here, he was almost crushed by a Minotaur and Chiron saved him. He fought off those giants single handedly and still lives to tell the tale. So if you think that he is a spy then you'll have me to answer to,” Leo said angrily.
  83. “Um, Leo? thanks but, I really don't need you to fight my battles. I mean, this is a battle I would like to have, the prince of death vs the son of the Ice Angel,” I said excitedly.
  84. Everyone just stared in shock at me when I said that like, Have you got a death wish or something? Then Nico burst into laughter.
  85. “Oh, you are funny Cameron. Alright I accept.” he said standing and walked away.
  86. “Wait, are you actually going to battle him?” Jordan asked.
  87. “Yep, and I'm going to let him win,” I said smiling.
  88. “Wait, why? You're just going to let him win the fight?”
  89. Annabeth gasped, “Oh wait, if he wins then he will see Cameron isn't a threat and that he will calm down and stop calling him a spy.” She smiled. “That's smart Cameron, I'm proud of you for thinking of that.”
  90. “It's not going to be that simple,” a girl from the other side of the table said. She is African American, with shoulder-length curly cinnamon hair, golden eyes, and she wears a white buttoned open shirt and a blue plain t-shirt. When Frank told me about her, he described her as toned and fit, and the shortest amongst her friends, as well as the youngest. He wasn't wrong. “You'll have to get into his head somehow and make him see that you're not a spy.”
  91. “Hazel Levesque, daughter of Pluto, god of wealth and half sister to Nico Di Angelo. Good to finally meet you. So, how do I do what you suggested?” I said, eagerly.
  92. We all talked for a while about how Nico thinks and how he fights. The only thing we couldn't figure out is how he would go about fighting me- but then again, that's for me to worry about. I mean, I am going up against the prince of death after all, and he isn't going to play nicely with someone who challenged him to a duel with all the camp watching.
  93. “So, that's the plan then: I'll just keep in the air all the time and try and shoot him with harmless fire and ice?” I asked Hazel.
  94. “Yes, he won't be able to touch you but you can still talk to him whilst you shoot him; plus if anything bad happens you can always go to your plan and let him win to make him see you're not a spy.” She explained.
  95. I looked at my hands and thought of the first time I used my powers. I was at school and I was getting bullied. It was just me and a group of kids in hoodies and ripped jeans. Not much to say other than they were testing how angry I could get before I retaliated. It was the biggest mistake of our lives, quite literally. They kept me from going to class and the next minute I felt anger building inside of me- then BOOM! I blew up the whole courtyard with those bullies along with it. Don't get me wrong, I was thrilled to get rid of them, but something till this day has made me feel really guilty about what happened.
  96. “Hey, you okay?” Jordan asked.
  97. “Yeah, just thinking of the first time I found out about my powers, when I torched those guys for pushing me too far and got locked up for 18 months in juvenile prison,” I replied. “I don't want that to happen to Nico and the rest of the camp, I mean you saw how burned those three were, I fried the flesh off their bones.”
  98. “I know it's hard but you got to believe in yourself, you can conceal it and not think about that day is good practice okay?” he reassured me, “now go out there and do the Hepheastus cabin proud.” he said smiling.
  99. I got up and walked down the corridor into the arena, they weren't kidding when they said the whole camp would be here, I got butterflies about this in the instant I enter that arena and everyone staring at me, it was when you go into a cave and you can feel all the bats staring at you from the shadows. Then I saw Leo right at the front of the stands looking at me and smiling mouthing ,you got this, but I was thinking to myself, Do I have this Leo, do I?
  100. Nico was standing at the other end of the arena, preparing for battle and I saw him picking up his Stygian sword that has to be at least the same height as him, how can he lift that? I though to myself.
  101. “You ready for this, spy?” Nico shouted.
  102. “Born ready!” I said spreading my wings.
  103. He looked at me as if to say, you will regret ever coming here, then I looked to my right and saw a wall full of weapons, there was at least 20 weapons mounted on there and I saw a gold sword shining, I went to pick it up and it spoke to me, You who chooses me shall have unlimited power and be the ruler of all worlds.
  104. “What was that?” I asked myself.
  105. “What's taking so long, you afraid I'm going to beat you?” he sniggered.
  106. I turned around and the whole arena fell silent- that's when I heard one of the camp mates whisper, “That's Excalibur, the most powerful sword ever made by Hepheastus, how can he lift it? Only a god can wield something that powerful.”
  107. I looked at it and down the blade near the ridge was engraved: you will do well my child, now go fight. Was it referring to me and Hepheastus actually did make this sword for only gods to wield- but if that's true, then how can I wield it?
  108. “You do know that is a legendary sword only wielded by our fathers and fore-fathers,” he said.
  109. “I do now, but how can I wield it if it is such a legendary weapon?” I asked.
  110. “You ever seen Yu-Gi-Oh?” he asked. I nodded, “It's like the cards, the sword chooses its master not the other way around.”
  111. “Huh, I see what you mean; it isn't just the gods that can fight with it, but who ever the sword chooses.” I said, surprised.
  112. He nodded, then he got into a stance ready to strike; so did I, but I landed before we charged and then clashed swords so the battle of life and death started, quite literally.
  113.
  114.
  115. Chapter 3: The Prophecy
  116. The battle was intense: we were going at each other as if we were siblings, swinging swords like they were twigs.
  117. “I am not a spy, you got that?” I said. “I got brought here by Chiron and Jordan.”
  118. He looked at me with a smile, “I know, I can see it in the way you fight, besides, Excalibur only chooses people with good intentions,” he said, swinging as fast as he could.
  119. We swung at each other and something bad happened. All I saw was the tip of his black Stygian sword flying one way and Excalibur going straight to him, I stopped mid swing and almost cut off Nico's head.
  120. “Woah, how did that happen, I thought Stygian metal was the strongest metal?” I asked.
  121. “It's meant to be, but I guess Excalibur lives up to its name being a legendary weapon and all,” Nico said calmly.
  122. Everyone was staring at us from the stands and all of a sudden we heard the roar of cheering, “and there you have it folks, the true power of Excalibur: it can break through any weapon!” The announcer exclaimed over the shouting campers.
  123. We both went into the middle of the arena and announced, “we have decided to call it a draw. As Nico's sword broke, he is going to need time to repair it and then we will continue the fight from there!”
  124. The arena broke into hysterics, shouting, “Encore, Encore!”
  125. Then we walked off down the corridor and a black mist appeared around our feet and formed into a tall, hooded figure.
  126. “Nico, Cameron, I need your help. I am held captive in a prison in Tartarus and can't get out. I want you and the 7 heroes to come save me; you are all the strongest demigods. Act quickly, gather your friends and begin your journey,” the cloaked man said, then disappeared into nothingness.
  127. “Who was that?” I asked.
  128. “That, was my father, Hades, god of the Underworld. If I know my father, which I do, he is luring us into a trap,” Nico replied with a stern look.
  129. Then the others came from outside the arena and met us halfway through the corridor.
  130. “Hey, we just saw Zeus, Athena, Hera and all the other gods, they are trapped in Tartarus and need our help.” Jersey said.
  131. Jersey has a dishevelled build, jet black hair swept to one side, bright sea green eyes. He has a Mediterranean complexion, a sarcastic, trouble maker smile, he is very muscular, fit and lean. He has a tattoo of a trident over the letters SPQR, on the underside of his right arm.
  132. “Wait, we just say Hades asking us for help too, but did anyone see Hepheastus?”I asked. “He couldn't be behind this could he?”
  133. Everyone else shook their heads.
  134. “No, he's too kind, it has to be someone who hates the gods,” Leo said.
  135. Who could it be, I thought to myself and then it hit me: the only other deities that are stronger than the gods...
  136. “Guys, you don't think it would be celestials do you?” I asked them. They all looked confused.
  137. “What do you mean?” Annabeth said.
  138. “Well, they are more powerful than the gods and have wanted them gone for some time now. It would just be the best way to get rid of them, put them into a prison in a prison, like Tartarus,” I said.
  139. Tartarus is a titan who equals as a prison for monsters and deities alike. So if you are sent there, then there is a long waiting line to get out. But if you are inside a prison, there is no way out.
  140. “I think I know who to ask about this,” Annabeth said. “Come with me.”
  141. We walked to a hill at the top of the camp. It was bright green with grass and dotted with white, yellow and red roses. We climbed the stone path that leads to the top; it took us about ten minutes to climb. At the top of the hill, there was a cave with a chain curtain, with the pattern of a red rose, over the mouth of it. Then a girl walked out wearing an overly large blue shirt, light blue denim jeans with doodles on them and holes at the knees. She isn't wearing any shoes. She is tall, slim and has red frizzy hair and a freckled face with green eyes.
  142. “Oh, hey guys, what's up?” she said.
  143. “Cam, this is Rachel Elizabeth Dare, the Oracle of the camp.” Annabeth said “Rachel, we need you to see if there is any prophecy about any of us to do with the gods.”
  144. Rachel closed her eyes and smoke came from her mouth, “I see the one they call Cameron Valdez,” she said in an old raspy voice, “upon the day snow and thunder collide, two siblings shall bring forth an end to the gods. When the mark is revealed, a meeting shall usher forth the overthrowing of royalty. Once the sky is colored brightly, a proposition shall cause the return of monsters. It shall be then, when the air turns white and gray, a victory shall bring forth a change of leadership and an age of magic. This is said to be done on the solctice after the chosen ones twentyth birthday, and if he does not stop this from happening, all that is known shall perish,” she slumped down, Jersey caught her and laid her down putting a blanket over her from inside the cave.
  145. I looked at everyone as if to say, What am I supposed to do with this information. And they knew almost immediatley what they had to do.
  146. “We need to try and contacted our parents and get them to tell us who put them there otherwise, we are all doomed.” Annabeth said.
  147. “No.” I said, staring down at my feet, “I need to do this alone, you heard what Rachel said, I am the only one who can stop this, yes our parents told all of us to go but, the prophecy said “The one named Cameron Valdez.” Besides, i can't drag you all in if I can't promise I can protect you guys.” Tears started to form running down my face.
  148. “Cameron, you don't have to promise anything, just so we all are there to stop this force and defeat who is behind all of this,” Leo said, smiling like a maniac.
  149. They all looked at me to say, you're not on your own, you don't have to do this all on your own, I just smiled and wiped the tears from my face.
  150. “Thank you guys, i couldn't ask for a better team to die with.” I said and laughed.
  151. The others looked at me and laughed along, then we walked out of the corridor and the whole camp was in panic, we were all looking at each other. “Has it started already? We have 10 days left till the solstice.” I said.
  152. Annabeth shook her head then pointed to a mechanical bull raging through the camp.
  153. “Look, its the Corkus Bull,” She screamed as it race towards us.
  154. The Corkus bull was a bull made entirely out of Celestial bronze and has all kinds of weapons inside of it including; a flamethower, a drill and something that looks like a short ranged pistol the size of a priate ship cannon.
  155. “Jersey, Jason, distract it for me,” I said.
  156. “On it,” Jason said.
  157. Jason has Sky blue eyes, close-cropped blond hair, and a small scar on his upper lip, tall and an athletic build, with well muscled and toned arms and legs, he has a tattoo of an eagle over the letters SPQR on his right forearm, he has a groove in his hair where he almost got killed by a bronze bullet by the god Sciron, also wearing Imperial Gold glasses.
  158. Jersey and Jason ran to the right to get the bulls attention and it worked, the bull followed them whilst I flew up blasting its hooves with shards of ice to freeze it in place. It didn't hold it for long as it used its flamethower to melt the ice and aimed at me.
  159. “Oh, come on, give me a break” I said, rising up more.
  160. When I looked back down, it had its cannon sized pistol ready to shoot, then an arc of lightning flashed down and hit the bull in the head, it went haywire for about 10 seconds until it came to a halt and slumped to the ground.
  161. “Thanks, Jason,” I said.
  162. “No problem, just doing my job to “distract” it,” he laughed.
  163. “Well, you done that, lightning boy,” Leo said.
  164. Percy went off to find the Ares cabbin mates so they could help tkae the bull to the Hepheastus cabin, as they came round the corner, the bull twtched and revamped. We all took a step back with weapons ready.
  165. “Don't worry, I rewired it so it will do as I command it,” Leo said.
  166. “Nicely done bro,” I said. “All we need to do now is get it to Hepheastus cabin to see who made it.”
  167.
  168.
  169. Chapter 4: The Journey Begins
  170. As we got to the cabin, Chiron was standing outside waiting for us.
  171. “Ah, you've brought the bull, well done Mr. Grace. Quick thinking on rewiring the bull aswell,” he said.
  172. Leo grinned and patted the bull, “this will help us to get to where we need to be now,” he said.
  173. “I have a quest for you,” Chiron exclaimed.
  174. “Oh ye, what is it?” I asked.
  175. “You guys have to find the Megatherium nest, if you do not find it within 10 days, you and the world as you know it shall perrish,” Chiron spread out his arms as if to say, Good luck, you'll never make it.
  176. “What's the Megatherium?” Leo asked
  177. “It means the monsters nest, its Greek,” Annabeth said. “But why do you want us to got there Chiron?”
  178. “That place is where you will find the one who will take you to Tartarus and back to save your parents,” he said.
  179. We all looked at each other and instantly knew what we had to do, so that same day, we packed what we needed for the trip and headed for the Argo II, once we were about to board Jordan stopped me.
  180. “Bro, are you sure your ready to go on a quest right now? You have just barely recovered from that last stunt you pulled,” he said
  181. “Jo, I'll be fine, don't worry, I'll rescue dad and bring all the gods home and besides, I am the strongest one out of us two,” I said smiling, and walked up the stairs towards my new home for 10 days.
  182. As I climbed on board Leo was pacing the floor preparing everything for our journey, he looked at peace with himself as he worked on getting everything perfect for us and putting certain things in peoples cabins, making sure Festus is all tuned up and ready to navigate, the from behind me I heard footsteps climbing the stairs, it was Jersey, Annabeth, Jason, Piper, Hazel, Frank and Nico coming on board to settle in as i was.
  183. “Hey guys, you ready?” I ask excitedly.
  184. “Ready as I'll ever be,” Nico said
  185. “Yep, just need to get some shut eye seeing as I haven't slept in 3 days,” Jersey answered.
  186. “I guess I am,” Piper said, Piper was a daughter of Aphrodite, goddess of love and her dad was a movie star, Tristen Mclean, Piper has chocolate brown hair that is cut choppy and unevenly, her eyes seemed to change colour like a kaleidoscope, going from brown to blue to green, and dressed in a snowboarding jacket, faded jeans, and hiking boots. Although she wore no makeup, she had facial imperfections (such as pimples, namely one at the base of her nose, which had been there for some time), she was still so beautiful that she drew attention even when trying not to do.
  187. “I'm ready but i just need to sort my things out,” Annabeth said.
  188. “Let's do this,” Frank said excitedly.
  189. “Ye, I guess I am too, just need to sort something out first,” Hazel said.
  190. “Hell yes, I am most definetly ready,” Jason said.
  191. As they got onto the ship, I showed them round and usherred them to their rooms.
  192. The next thing I knew, we were all talking on deck with Leo at the helm, Percy asleep below deck. Piper, Annabeth and Hazel were working on their sword techniques, while Nico sat on his own sharpening his dagger; then me and Jason stood there looking out to sea and admiring the view.
  193. “Hey, why does Nico sit on his own?” I asked Jason.
  194. “He just likes to be alone, because of what happened to his sister Bianca, a few years ago,” he answered.
  195. “What happened to her?” I asked.
  196. “She was trapped in the Labyrith and crushed by the Minotaur. Percy went in to save her, but she was gone before he could reach her,” he explained.
  197. I looked over at Nico and he had tears rolling down his cheek, then i heard a voice sing, could that be Nico, singing? I thought to myself. Sure enough, it was Nico singing a song is Italian.
  198. “Ma Nico, mia caro. Sei il mio piccolo soldato, il motivo per cui vivo. Non dimenticarmi, veglieró su di te,” He sang. (But Nico, mt dear. You are my little soldier, the reason I live. Do not forget me, I will watch over you.)
  199. “What was that, Is that something his sister taught him?” I asked.
  200. “No, he is Italian, he speakes it fluently,” Jason replied.
  201. “Hey guys, we are coming up to Manhattan, but you might want to see this!” Leo told us.
  202. The next thing we knew there was a searing heat coming straight towards us and then a bright red light blinding us.
  203. “Annabeth, go wake up Jersey now!” I yelled.
  204. “On it,” she replied, rushing towards the steps below deck.
  205. “Its the giants again, they want me dead,” I said.
  206. “How do you know its not all of us?” Nico said.
  207. “Really? Did you not see what i done to them,” I said sarcastically.
  208. I spread my wings and flew up, Leo grabbed my leg and shook his head then pulled me down to the deck.
  209. “You're not doing this alone, we agreed we will face every challenge together,” Leo said looking straight.
  210. “He's right, even you promised that we will stick together, don't forget i can soak you right here Valdez,” Percy said yawning, walking up the stairs with Riptide out. “Now, where are these giants?”
  211. I pointed to the giants at the coastline of Manhattan and said, “there,”
  212. “Cameron Valdez,” A rumbling voice came from the group of giants, “we only want that boy, he is the one who burnt me and my brothers,” the biggest one gestured to the other two at the back.
  213. “No one will be leaving this vessel,” Leo said to them.
  214. “Very well, we will just have to take you off that vessel then,” The big one bellowed.
  215. We all braced for an ambush from the giants, but we heard screeches from above, we all looked up at the same time.
  216. “Look out,” I shouted, “Scatter!”
  217. We all jumped out of the way and 5 Harpies crashed into the deck and laid there dazed.
