Daniel LaRusso und Mr. Miyagi planen nach ihrer Rückkehr aus Okinawa die Eröffnung eines Bonsaigeschäftes. Die Freunde ahnen nicht, daß ihr alter Gegner Kreese inzwischen mächtige Unterstützung durch den Karatemeister und Geschäftsmann Terry Silver erhalten hat. Silver läßt Daniel durch "Bad Boy" Barnes herausfordern, seinen Titel als Karatechamp zu verteidigen. Miyagi lehnt es ab, Daniel zu trainieren. Das übernimmt Silver, der sich inzwischen geschickt als vermeintlicher Freund ins Spiel gebracht hat. Daniel und Miyagi durchschauen jedoch gerade noch rechtzeitig das Komplott.

Unterhaltsamer dritter Film der populären Erfolgsserie, wieder inszeniert von John G. Avildsen ("Rocky"), der bereits bei den ersten beiden Teilen Regie führte. Martin Kove ("Stahljustiz") als Kreese bringt das Duo Macchio ("Crossroads") und Morita erneut in Schwierigkeiten. Im Kino erreichte der Film eine halbe Million Zuschauer.
