  1. Calder Rooney
  2. Though as important an issue as this is to David (in both of our games), we are perhaps wandering a bit far afield
  3.
  4. Samuel Peer
  5. Oh, okay
  6.
  7. Calder Rooney
  8. I know that David really, really loves WF/you as a GM, especially right now, since he hasn't had so many adversarial experiences in WF as he has in B&B
  9.
  10. Samuel Peer
  11. Or different stakes/intensity perhaps
  12.
  13. Calder Rooney
  14. I actually don't think so
  15. Your games can be just as brutal and horrible as mine
  16. I mean, I remember Ashir losing his balls...
  17.
  18. Samuel Peer
  19. Oh, I meant just with Brook's experiences/challenges
  20. Not comparing GMs or games
  21. Just that Brook's challenges haven't been the same stakes/intensity perhaps as Amelie's
  22.
  23. Calder Rooney
  24. Exactly. It's just that Brook, due to various IC circumstances, hasn't suffered any defeats that are so horrible in WF as has in B&B
  25. Though he could have
  26.
  27. Samuel Peer
  28. Yep, he could have
  29.
  30. Calder Rooney
  31. If, say, Hudson and co hadn't been there during the Moe fight
  32.
  33. Samuel Peer
  34. Or if he had made other choices and poorer rolls with say the Mooners
  35.
  36. Calder Rooney
  37. Yep
  38. Could have been raped
  39.
  40. Samuel Peer
  41. I really thought something quite Dr. Brown was going to happen
  42. ninja'd
  43.
  44. Calder Rooney
  45. Hey, Amelie doesn't _know_ if Dr. Brown raped her...
  46. Only confirmed Dr. Brown rape is Lavine
  47.
  48. Samuel Peer
  49. But he ended up smartly calling a flashback, got an Ex success, and had a bunch of smart moves and rolls
  50. Ended up totally raking up a lot of big successes there
  51. Regardless
  52. WE know Dr. Brown
  53.
  54. Calder Rooney
  55. Exactly. But I think David has gotten into his head that I am the wicked GM, and you are the nice one
  56. When we are both, in fact, equally wicked
  57.
  58. Samuel Peer
  59. Yes!
  60. I'm the nice cop!
  61.
  62. Calder Rooney
  63. Only fitting I'm the bad one, the cops in B&B are way worse
  64.
  65. Samuel Peer
  66. Yep, totally agreed.
  67.
  68. [...]
  69.
  70. Calder Rooney
  71. Now, so far as the favor I had originally intended to ask you
  72. (Though listening and advising for these past 2ish hours has also been one)
  73. As I mentioned, I believe David has got it into his head that you are the good cop GM and I am the bad cop GM
  74.
  75. Samuel Peer
  76. Oh, and here I thought talking about this was the issue/problem
  77. Okay, sure, what's up?
  78.
  79. Calder Rooney
  80. When we are both in fact equally horrible, and it has been OOC luck/IC circumstances rather than a difference in the GMs which has resulted in Amelie experienci
  81.
  82. Samuel Peer
  83. Yes, agreed
  84. Some of the 'horribleness' may be or feel exacerbated in part by some of VtM/B&B's unique tone.
  85. Just as a thought
  86.
  87. Calder Rooney
  88. Yep, and the games are horrible-feeling in different ways
  89.
  90. Samuel Peer
  91. Yep, totally
  92.
  93. Calder Rooney
  94. Leather medical restraints vs. steel police cuffs
  95. Anyway, since you're still the good cop in David's eyes, I think it would help my efforts to reach a compromise with him (and set him up for more fun in B&B/less potential disappointment in WF) if you were, essentially, to have a conversation with David about that
  96.
  97. Samuel Peer
  98. Oh, sure!
  99.
  100. Calder Rooney
  101. "I'm actually just as horrible as Calder, don't be fooled."
  102.
  103. Samuel Peer
  104. Yes
  105. Of course
  106. It's totally true
  107. I might quibble that our horribleness is actual 'good'
  108. For the game/story?
  109.
  110. Calder Rooney
  111. Oh, of course
  112. Absolutely
  113.
  114. Samuel Peer
  115. Versus us just being sadists
  116. But yeah, of course
  117. I'll talk to him
  118.
  119. Calder Rooney
  120. No, we still provide PCs paths forward even in defeat
  121. Any bad writer can put the protagonists through hell
  122.
  123. Samuel Peer
  124. Any particular way you want me to pitch or start that convo
  125. Like any lead in besides:
  126. I'm actually just as horrible as Calder, don't be fooled.
  127.
  128. Calder Rooney
  129. Hahahaha
  130. Well, I might discuss the specific examples of Brook and Hudson vs. Amelie and (no) Lou
  131. Since they're pretty similar situations
  132.
  133. Samuel Peer
  134. I might even start by comparing the Amelie and Hazel situations
  135. And then work to Brook stuff
  136. As he might take that better
  137. Ease in
  138. Or might be able to more objectively see the parallel
  139.
  140. Calder Rooney
  141. Yes, that's very true
  142. Though I would also bring up the Brook/Amelie parallels, just because they're so strong
  143. Or at least appear strong
  144. Ie, "If Hudson and two marshals hadn't shown up during the Moe fight, Brook might be in a terrible place. And if Lou was there during the LaLaurie chapter, Amelie might have been in a way better place."
  145. Since in literally both situations, David's PC got in over his/her head
  146. And another player's PC bailed them out
  147. (Or could have)
  148.
  149. Samuel Peer
  150. Definitely
  151. But maybe bring them up second
  152. But sure, I will definitely talk to David
