  1. Jupiter is a "gas giant" planet made mostly of liquid hydrogen with a thick atmosphere of hydrogen and helium gas. It is the largest and most massive planet in the solar system, its size only surpassed--greatly--by the Sun.
  2.
  3. When you observe it, look for the four Galilean moons--little "stars" all inline with Jupiter. You may also see belts of darker, low-level clouds, and if you're lucky, you may see the Great Red Spot as a little dark dot in one of the belts.
  4.
  5. Gravity: 2.5 x Earth
  6. Mass: 318 x Earth
  7. Diameter: 11 x Earth
  8. Sun Distance: 5.2 x Earth
