  1. Name: Vampire (Hive Empress)
  2.
  3. Type: Vampire (Eldritch)
  4.
  5. Average Life Span: Indefinite
  6.
  7. Habitat: Almost anywhere, detests cold climates.
  8.
  9. Description: Here is a challenge, it is debatable what their true form really looks like as no one ever sees it. These beings are shape shifters, when resting they wrap shape shifting wings around themselves like a cocoon; upon emerging they tend to use a psychic link to take the form of an attractive humanoid version of what they sensed around them; or else a variety of humanoid forms; there is no consistency other other than wings are rather common.
  10.
  11. Describing their creations has equal difficulty, although “terrifying” might be a consistency. See abilities for their creations.
  12.
  13. History and Abilities:
  14. History might be a problem; it’s unclear where or when these originated. They have been spotted on various human worlds and across different realities. They are often regarded as “Progenitors”, “Vampire Queens”, “Chaos Bringers”, “Mothers of Monsters”, and so on; one vampire lord refered to them as “Game Changers”, and a secret society of humans studying the occult have called them “The Dreamers”.
  15.
  16. What can be said is whatever world even one of them appears on will be forever changed. To further illustrate that it’s best to first look at how they reproduce. They are described as reproducing typically in four ways (Birth, Drone Spawn, Infection, and Creation). There is a fifth but it is extremely rare to encounter, and with good reason’ the god spawn.
  17.
  18. The first of these: Birth: The Hive Empress is like the queen of a hive (hence the name) as best anyone can understand them. Only the Queen can give birth to a Queen; and this is extremely rare, as only a Queen can impregnate another queen. It was discovered that when one queen meets another they will fight; even so far as to go to war with the other destroying their spawns, infected, and creations. Some worlds have orginizations that mistakenly took this to mean one of was actually on their side; when the truth is this is a battle of dominance. When they finnaly fight each other one on one, even as their armies might even fight each other at the same time; they don’t try to kill each other (its not clear if even they can). Their own minions may not even be aware of what is really happening believing this is a war to the death that must end with the other side’s queen dying. The two queens are fighting to impregnate the other (they are hermaphrodites). The defeated queen is forced to submit and carry the victor’s offspring (it is both of their’s really, but being pregnant leaves them limited and carefully guarded by the one that did the impregnating as their prize. It is a matter of pride for them, which seems to be why they try to avoid each other as much as possible; thus the extreme rarity of these beings. They prefer to be the one in charge with all others obeying them or following them mindlessly.
  19.
  20. Second: Drone Spawn: these are likely not real spawn or count as reproduction; research by some advanced cultures tends to regard these as (free moving, semi-autunomous drones; or bio-machine constructs). They are more like extensions of the Queen’s body; and usually very strange looking, ranging from slime creatures, to tentacle beasts, and various other organic monstrosities. These tend to guard the nests or else act as spies.
  21.
  22. Third: Infection: There appears to be some level of control over this that the Queens have. They can inject a genetic modifier into other living creatures, through various means (usually claw or fang touch, although some have developed a mist and stored it up to release over a wide area like a weapon). This alters a living being into a monstrous form (often) that is under the Queen’s control. These infected can also reproduce with other infected and creatures, often resulting in new monsters and even entire lines of monsters (vampires of various types are often the result of this on many worlds); some infected even able to infect others. However the descendents and further infected by infected are not under the direct control of the Queen; this has lead to many who after long enough periods of time fearing the queens which thanks to a disconnect may view them as food or competition for her new hive she may start up. She can still infect the descendents and further infected if she likes to even newer forms. Now the level of control is apparent as she seems to program in what they will look like and even weaknesses; it is thought younger queens have no choice but to include certain weaknesses; while older ones can control it as a way to control those when it passes down the line or insure they can be quickly exterminated if need be.
  23.
  24.
  25. As seen the infected can breed with the infected, this should increase a hive’s side, as while not directly controlled by the queen they should either be loyal or controlled by those that infected them or birthed them. They can also breed with none-infected resulting in strange hybrid forms, that are usually weaker than the infected, but mutations happen.
  26.
  27. Fourth: Creation: Simular to infected except it seems she can manipulate even inorganic materials to form singular creatures under her control (like golems). It is thought by some that this may reflect their encountering silicon and other material based lifeforms before and adapting.
  28.
  29. The rare fifth, the god spawn: This is when the Queen allows herself to impregnate one of her infected or none infected (the none infected’s child will be super-human, stronger than the infected typically but lack most of their weaknesses). Impregnating an infected results in an offspring that will be stronger than the infected but not nearly as strong as the Queen. However get enough of them together and they may be strong enough to restrain her. This doesn’t happen very often, usually God-Spawn act as the generals or Elite Guard of the Hive, although one instance of them turning on the Queen was the basis for the Tiamat myth on one world (in this they couldn’t kill her, but did trap her away deep beneath the ground). It is important to note that when God-Spawn breed with other God-Spawn the result is a same strengthed or powered individual or weaker, breeding with Infected or mortals results in weaker individuals than the God-Spawn parent that can over generations dwindle down to the same strength as what is being bred with (Infected or Mortal), even if the Mortals keep thinking they are descended from gods and what not they are no different than regular mortals.
  30.
  31. On other powers: the variety of powers they can have is not fully explored (thanks to how rare they are) and the differences between the powers of individuals and their various prodigy has been so different that some argue they aren’t even the same species. On one world the result of a war between apparent angels and demons ending with the angel and demon queens fucking each other (it came out a tie in this case) shot this down on one world. *As a note on that, sometimes it’s hard to tell this is even what is being dealt with instead of some other monster. They seem to just grow into powers that seem tied to their personalities; the aesthetics being a thing of debate. Universal powers would be shape shifting, flight, invisibility, intangibility, and psychic abilities.
  32.
  33. Weaknesses: while their prodigy tend to have a variety of weaknesses, as seen above the exact means or reasons are confused and may or may not be intentional, or exaggerated versions of those the Queen’s have. As for themselves,
  34. They have no weaknesses to symbols of any kind, mirrors still have reflections, although some dislike Salt Water, others will gladly live in it. Sunlight weakens them a bit (used by God Spawn before), but not by enough for most things to be able to fight them, God Spawn could though, although it also irritates their eyes and makes them dizzy to boot. Some humans learned the hard way that irritating and making dizzy something that is still effectively indestrutable and strong enough to peel a tank apart is not a good idea. Various other things may irritate them, such as certain high pitched sounds, but they can adapt for a short time. Tobacco smoke and even just the plants themselves have been found in some instances to irritate them and keep one asleep for an extended period. The most effective weakness is the cold. Cold weather tends to make them migrate or else hibernate, going into the ground wrapped up to sleep till things are warm again. In technological societies this isn’t much of a weakness, just making them stay indoors or else move to another location.
  35.
  36. There is one substance that bothers them, a metal known as “Dream Metal” it is an alloy of impossible structure whose creation is rarely known. It has been used to trap them before. One world it seems had the misfortune of having several Hive Queens on it, somehow the ancient people managed to trap several of them in underground prisons made of the Dream metal. As fate would have it, future humans learning of its effect would find ways to locate the metal to use on ONE Hive Queen that was awake, and end up freeing others that were buried under the stuff which had warped over the millennia under ground so seemed like deposits rather than prisons. The metal appears to interfere with their psychic abilities, thus no projecting out while asleep (they got the name “Dreamers” as while hibernating their minds could wander the world, thus keeping up on it, possess others, and even enter dreams), these containments stopped this and seemed to act as an inverted psionic wave keeping them asleep, however even just a crack exposing them and a mind close enough for the crack to matter and they could wake up again.
  37.
  38. Feeding: their prodigy end up labeled as “vampires” as they have a specialized diet; usually draining somekind of fluid from other living things; although that can mean anything from drinking blood too sucking tree sap depending on how the Queen makes them. The Queens themselves can eat food, but need certain things, namely they drink milk. Don’t need much of it, but they crave it. When they first wake up they go on a blood drinking and flesh eating spree. But they will have odd twists in what they are drawn to consume, blood, milk, fruit juices. On some worlds that third would still be either scary or erotic. Anything else in their diet has more to do with taste than a need. It is important to note that trapping a queen and starving her will result in her going wild, this out of control feral queen…is more than even a hundred God-Spawn could hope to stop and is more like an Eldritch Abomination than any vampire (hence some views on their true nature), if she doesn’t manage to feed she will go into hibernation. There is no telling how long their hibernations can last; some have been found on dead planets trapped for eons before waking up, others lone meteors and space craft.
