Three young brothers, who have been trained in ninja techniques from an early age, learn that they possess powers which evil crooks would like to control. When a kidnap is attempted, they must defend themselves using all their skills.
Meet Samuel, Jeffrey and Michael Douglas! Their grandfather, Mori Tanaka, is highly skilled in ninjutsu. For years he's been training these boys in this technique. He even gave them names: Rocky because he's "solid and cool as granite rock"; Colt, because he's "fast and free, a spirit of a young wild horse"; and Tum Tum because ambition begins and ends with his tummy". But one day, an old "friend" of Grandpa's, Hugo Snyder, is heard from again. He's being hassled by the F.B.I., and the boys' father happens to be an F.B.I. officer. So Snyder figures if he kidnaps the father's kids, it will ease the tension, none of his own men are suitable for the task, so he hires three dim and incredibly incompetent surfers to do the deed. The boys treat them to a night of ninja moves and hilarious gags ala 'Home Alone'. But the boys soon get captured by Snyder, and what is more, they become doubtful of their grandfather, until he bursts into action and fights Snyder.
Oh my gosh, as a kid I watched this movie EVERY day with my best friend!!!! We loved Colt and Rocky so much!! It was by far our favorite movie. I was looking for it today because I used to own it, but I can't find it. I will probably buy it along with the two sequels, 3 Ninjas Knuckle Up and 3 Ninjas Kick Back. I have not seen the sequels but I imagine that they are just as good as the first one. It's a great movie for kids, however adults might find it childish. I am 13 now and I still want to watch it. It is a humorous movie with lots of ninja action. "Tum Tum" was funny. These movies are similar to The Ninja Turtles movies except with kids instead of turtles. And I would much rather watch this series than the Ninja Turtles series.
3 Ninjas was a classic and really good kids family film. A kick-butt action-comedy-family film. The boys, Michael Treanor, Max Elliott Slade, and Chad Power were so awesome! 3 Ninjas was funny and full of true Martial Arts. Victor Wong who starred as Grandpa he did great and connected very well with the boys. Jon Turteltaub who directed film. Awesome job! Edward Emanuel and Kenny Kim thanks for writing such a amazing kick-butt story. 3 Ninjas rock!<br/><br/>We all remember watching this as a kid and watching it via Television whenever it showed. 3 Ninjas was always joy to watch because truly it rocks and kicks-butt. There&#39;s nothing negative about the film itself. I recommend for everyone and you should check it out if you haven&#39;t today. 3 Ninjas will rock your world! these boys were wonderful.
Despite the obvious rip-offs of other films, the cartoony, slapstick humor does generate enough charm to pull chuckles from a young audience. But too much of the action - the sword-fighting and basketball stunt scenes, especially - looks distractingly fake. [08 Aug 1992, p.26]
