17. Oversimplified much? In Lee's mind, he was trying to tell the clerk that he's from Malaya (country) and he's a Malayan (citizenship). But hey, that was just a simple desk clerk, and you'd assume he didn't know much about geography and demography. Lee was pissed because: "Why the f you refer me based on my ethnicity/race?". From that moment on, Lee Kuan Yew understood how the game was being played. Get the drift? White folks will always see you as Chinese.

20.
21. What is the word "Chinese" means? It has more than 1 meaning.
22. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_people
23.
24. China is like Europe. The only difference is that China is in one piece, while Europe is broken up into multiple different countries.
25. Side notes::
26.
27. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3Xe1kX7Wsc...GFcr5KDtuKGcWkj
28.
29. "It's because Roman Empire collapsed which leads to the notions of "kingdom" and then "nation" state, which leads to democrazy (two-party dictatorship aka illusion of freedom), while the other parts of the world only required "Authoritarian" (one-party system) to run its empire. You get smaller and smaller empires. And the Europeans hated each others so you get "independence" - breaking away from the larger empire. Kosovo (a pretty useless/weak country) was the last one to get... if I recall correctly. That pretty much sums up the so called "freedom" in the West. That was "the birth of modern democrazy", its history and roots. It's absolutely opposite to China.
30.
31. Side notes:
32. Germany/EU vs Greece. EU is broken. Europeans hated each others.

34. http://tinyurl.com/ydhbdxkt
35.
36. Hence, the West has lost the concept/notion of "civilization", and China remains to attain the concept/notion of "civilization".
37.
38. This theory was coined by Martin Jacques and me, plus, I refined it. Martin Jacques never put it into proper sentences. Roman Empire collapsed VS China unified. Both worlds had different histories and experiences.
39.
40. China needs a strong powerful "one-party state" to deal with foreign imperialism. That was where "the party"'s humble beginning start from.
41.
42. Democrazy is a practice of hatred... how much do you hate your neighbours. The more you hate your neighbours, you higher chance you going to get independence. Russia (North Caucasus) and China practice coexisting."
43.
44. http://tinyurl.com/gts5xsj - He only got one point wrong @ 8:38

47.
48.
49. Everyone is or native people in China are Chinese or Yellow (including the minorities; it is up to them to define it).
50. Everyone is or native people in Europe are European or White or Caucasian.
51.
52. Chinese in Fujian are Fujianese/Hokkien.
53. Chinese in Shanghai are Shanghainese.
54. Chinese in Sichuan are Sichuanese.
55. They're all Chinese.
56. Europeans in Germany are Germans.
57. Europeans in Italy are Italians.
58. Europeans in Sweden are Swedish.
59. They're all Europeans.
60.
61. Chinese = Europeans
62.
63. Get it?
64.
65. The word "Chinese" has the equivalent "meaning/value" to the word "Caucasian" or "White" or "European" in its own terms, of course. But you won't be seeing the Whities go saying: "Hey, I'm Caucasian from Germany". They will say: "I'm from Germany" or "I'm German." But they "considered" themselves as "Whites" or "Caucasians" or "Europeans" and mixed/married with each others, just like you "considered" yourself as "Chinese" and mixed/married with your fellow "Chinese" from different provinces/states/countries/locations.
66.
67. But the Chinese will go saying to a newly met foreign friend from Romania: "Hey, I'm from X country (non-Yellow countries or outside of CH/KR/JP)". And if this new foreign friend is curious about his (the Chinese person) ethnicity [which they probably will because the foreign friend might have mistaken the Chinese as an Overseas CH/KR/JP or Viet or Mongolian (no one cares about the last 2 lol)], the Chinese will go saying: "I'm Chinese". You can't say: "I'm Hakka" or "I'm Hokkien" or "I'm Hunanese" or "I'm Xibo" 'coz foreign friend who've never read Chinese history know nothing about the sub-group/sub-ethnicity/sub-culture which I also called "Regional thing" or "Regionalism".
68.
69. Side notes:
70. Vietnam is no East Asia but South East Asia (SEA). They're natives of SEA or Indochina. They're Kinh, related to Muong or Austro-Asiatic.
71.
72. Here's a quiz:
73. Now think about the difficulties of the "minorities" in China explaining their identities to a newly met foreign friend. I will give you examples:
74.
75. Tong Liya 佟丽娅 - Xibo people 锡伯族
76. The guy next to her is from HK, Michael Tse 谢天华
77.
78.
79.
80. Cica Zhou 周韦彤 - Sui people 水族
81.
82.
83.
84. 朱婧 - Dai people 傣族
85.
86.
87.
88. Yang Rong 杨蓉 - Bai people 白族
89.
90.
91.
92. Lan Ying Ying 蓝盈莹 - She people 畲族
93.
94.
95.
96. Kazakh people in China - "I'm pure Chinese" @ 5:00
97. I also happened to stumble upon on some Kazakh Chinese in China on Weibo so I know what and how they think on this subject.
98.
99.
100.
101. Do you think they will go for the short one: "I'm Chinese", or the long/complex one: "I'm X ethnic minority from X province" when introducing themselves for the first to a newly met foreign friend?
102. HAHAHA :)
103. They subconsciously hide their "minority-ness" to be "mainstream" Chinese and go for the short, simple, less confusing intro: "I'm Chinese" or "I'm from China". Done.
104. One thing for sure, they all acknowledged themselves as 中国人. Do you?
105. Btw, you can't even tell that they're "minorities". Viva la Sinicization!!!
106.
107. For most of these so-called "minorities" who happened to look like average/mainstream Chinese, EA, Yellow or Mongoloid, for them, their "minorities" are not so important. They're well integrated and assimilated.
108.
109. The time when they claimed to be "minorities" were the time when they get the special minority rights, "affirmative action", filling up forms or legal papers in the gov't offices, schools and etc., to get benefits/freebies.
110.
111. 华人
112. 海外华人 is for the Overseas Chinese.
113.
114. Btw, most of the Chinese Malaysians do not even know they're Han Chinese. In fact, most of them have never heard of that words. They just go by Chinese Malaysians. They're aware that they're different from the Malays and Indians. I only truly grasped and learned the word "Han Chinese", "Hakka", "Teochew" and etc., in my 20s after spending some quality time reading Chinese history.
115.
116. Now my question is:
117. How many Han Chinese in China actually have heard the word, know the word, know the meaning of "Han Chinese"? It goes to show that people in China are not every race/ethnic conscious among themselves as long as they're speaking one language --- Mandarin Chinese.
118.
119. The whole notion of being "minority" (some) can be superfluous and superficial. Example: Swedish "minority" living in Norway. You really think it is really matter? They're all White/Caucasian or Scandinavians, live next to each others. They can't even tell the difference without the Swedish minority disclosing it himself. It's indistinguishable.
120.
121. Most of these so called "minorities" (except a few), out of the 55 minorities in China are Yellow, just like the average Chinese, EA, Yellow or Mongoloid. It's indistinguishable.
122.
123. But in the West or white nations, the "minorities" are Blacks, Mexicans, Latins, Arabs, Muslims, etc. Very different from White/Caucasian.
124.
125. There are also so called White "minorities" or "different ethnicities" or "indigenous peoples" in European countries, such as Belgium, Finland and etc.
126. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sami_people
127. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sami_languages
128. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flemish_people
129. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_Belgium
130.
131. Everyone in China is Chinese (citizenship/nationality), Han or not Han. And what happened to these so called "minorities" that do not have or do not practice "traditional minority cultures" but celebrate and practice Han Chinese culture, like every average Chinese; nor these so called "minorities" speak their own languages? Are these so called "minorities" still minorities? At what point when this "minority" crap breaks apart and no longer relevant? I suggest you to read "Southward expansion of the Han dynasty" to get some clues. Manchu is the next one in the list.
132.
133. Ethnicity is like fluid or water or river. Evolution is real.
134. Chinese is a supra-ethnicity.
135. The word "Chinese" is very complex. Han-nization or Sinicization is real, and has been going on for thousands of years.
136. TBH with you, as long as Han Chinese survived, China will be in one piece.
137. China is a homogeneous, pluralistic, cosmopolitan and multicultural country. In fact, China is a civilization state, not nation state.
138.

140.
141. If you know anything about anthropology, you'll know that the "Chinese" are all mixed and connected. In fact, all humans are mixed. The definition of amalgam.

148. Hope this is not too complex. Cheers.
