  1. Zone 9: Scandinavian Reclamation Sector
  2.
  3. The Scandinavian Zone is the ninth Administrative Zone of the NATO-SCTO Coalition (NCC). Located in the the north of Europe, Zone 9 was formed in September of 2030 after the reformation of the NCC. Zone nine officially is in control of the former territories of The Kingdom of Sweden, Norway, Denmark as well as the islands of Gotland, Öland and Åland in the Baltic Sea, but only on paper. The swedish territories, even though not part of any defense alliance was hit perticularly hard by radiation due to its proximity to Kaliningrad, rendering large parts of the swedish coastline and inland territories uninhabitable.

  7. Pre-War Period
  8.
  9. The Scandinavian countries have always been a bit of a hot topic in internal EU debates, even though both their languages and cultures are virtually indistinguishable from one another from an outsiders perspective, they are very much different politically.
  10.
  11. Denmark
  12.
  13. Due to Denmarks proximity to Germany and their control of the Denmark strait crossing into the Baltic Sea, Denmark has always favoured economic and political integration with the German people since the early years of the 8th century. Following the 2019 election in Denmark the status quo remained unchanged and future European economic integration was on the horizon with the construction of the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link, an underwater tunnel connecting north Germany with the Danish island of Lolland. Denmark, being a founding member of NATO joined the NATO-CSTO Coalition in 2024 after a nationwide referendum.
  14.
  15. Norway
  16.
  17. Ever since the discovery of large offshore oil deposits in Norwegian waters, Norways economy just kept growing. With the sixth highest GDP ratio in the world, it is no surprise that the Norwegians decided against joining the European Union two times due to fears of growing European Intervention in their own domestic markets. Norway is however a member of the European Economic Area and can enjoy free border crossing with its neighbours due to the Schengen Agreement. Ever since its liberation from the German occupiers in the 1940s, Norway has been a proud founding member of NATO. With the largest coastline in the entire world due to its many fjords and inlets, the control or Norway is of the utmost importance for any superpower in Europe. Norway is believed to be hosting many early warning radar sites and there are rumours of submarine bays hidden in remote fjords. Norway joined the NATO-CSTO Coalition after mounting pressure from both the US and the UK.
  18.
  19. Sweden
  20.
  21. Many things can be said about Sweden, the failed European superpower.
  22. Ever since its defeat in their failed invasion of Russia in the 17th century, Sweden has adopted a policy of careful and strategic defensive strategies. Sweden hasn't been at war since the Napoleonic wars and have been officially neutral in all armed conflicts all the way up to the modern day. Diplomacy has always been Swedens greatest weapon, be it with the Nazis, the Soviets or the Viet Cong, Sweden has always tried to walk the fine line of diplomacy during times of great uncertainty. Sweden is a country of exports and with a heavy emphasis on foreign trade. Iron ore, Steel, Ball Bearings, Timber and Hydropower is the bloodline of the nation. Sweden joined the EU after a remarkably close 52.3% referendum and has ever since enjoyed the benefits of an ever growing European market. Even though Sweden sometimes participates in joint military exercises with other nations, Sweden remains non-aligned and continues its neutral policy to this day. Sweden never joined the NATO-CSTO Coalition even after pressure coming from both Washington and the Kremlin, Sweden did however decide to commit to the Bastion Contingency in 2025 after a nationwide referendum.

  30. When the Cobalt Bomb detonated in Kaliningrad, chaos immediately followed in Scandinavia. Norway and Denmark, the two countries in Scandinavia involved in the NATO-CSTO Coalition was in a complete state of panic. Due to fears of complete nuclear annihilation by the Chinese the governments of Denmark and Norway had previously made backdoor deals with both the US, Russia and China, hosting no Nuclear forces from any of the NATO-CSTO superpowers they believed themselves to be spared from annihilation, they were wrong. At midnight the 21th of April 2027 9 Nuclear warhead hit the cities of Copenhagen, Oslo, Århus, Odense, Esbjerg, Bergen, Trondheim, the port of Narvik and the island of Bornholm. The collapse of Norway and Denmarks governments was swift and brutal.

  32. The last country standing in Scandinavia at the time was Sweden, spared from Atomic blasts due to its neutrality and positive relations with China. Sweden watched his brother countries get incinerated in an instant, but this was no time to gloat. Radiation Alarms sprung to life all over southern Sweden, the worst was yet to come. A mist of invisible death and decay was slowly spreading across the lands. With predictions of the southern farmlands of Sweden becoming all but sterilised, mass famine, starvation and social upheaval were just around the corner.
