- ☆ Name Origin: Foxfire― the bioluminescence of some types of fungi. The "fox" in "foxfire" may derive from the Old French word fols, meaning "false," rather than from the name of the animal, but the association of foxes with such fires is widespread and occurs in Japanese folklore. "Kitsunebi," literally foxfire in Japanese, appear in folklore as lantern-like flames, in colours of orange, yellow, and sometimes blue. There are many theories stating that the glows are the sigh or long breaths of a fox.
