The Plucky Little Unicorn

In a land far far away there was a small village of unicorns.
The village was located deep in a forest that was nestled amid two large mountains and a lake.
There were not many, only numbering around 50 or so.
There was one unicorn in particular who was special.
Her name was Bunny and she was a short, pudgy unicorn with a snow white coat and a black mane.
Bunny was shorter and chubbier than all of the other unicorns and her friends would tease her about it constantly.
Bunny with the big tummy they would call her. This made her feel bad about herself, but she would try to laugh along with her friends because she knew they meant no harm.
There was one unicorn in particular who would tease her harder than all the others.
Her name was Jewel and her dazzling yellow coat shone like a priceless gem.
Jewel was a popular unicorn, she was tall and thin and all the other unicorns loved to be around her.
Bunny couldn't understand why, but for some reason Jewel just didn't like her no matter what she tried.

Today there was a terrible storm and the village was caught in the center of it.
There was thunder and lightning and whipping winds.
When the storm hit Bunny was picking apples in the forest.
She had just found a new grouping of apple trees and she was excited to bring some home.
Hopping down off of her stool Bunny pulled her basket over her back and left the orchard.
Running through the forest Bunny passed a large shadow.
The shadow stood in the shade of a large tree and silently watched Bunny as she ran by.
Noticing the basket of apples on the small unicorn's back the shadow began ponderously following the unicorn towards the village seemingly unbothered by the heavy rains.

Having reached the village Bunny saw a group of some other unicorns taking shelter under a large tent.
Bunny ran over and joined the other unicorns under the tent.
Much to her dismay the unicorns under the tent were none other than Jewel and her closest friends.
Jewel turned to look at Bunny when she arrived and snorted.
"Look who it is guys" she said derisively "It's Tummy"
The other unicorns all looked at Bunny and laughed.
"Uh... h-hi guys." Bunny said as she tried to avoid looking anyone in the eye.
"Nasty weather huh?"
Jewel snorted once again and walked over to where Bunny was standing, peering in her basket.
"Nice apples ya got there Tummy, did you pick those for us?"
Bunny shrank back a little, her ears folding flat against her head.
"I was getting those for my dinner, but you could have one if you'd like."
Jewel nodded her head and two of her friends walked over and pulled the basket off of Bunny's back.
"Thanks for the apples Tummy, now I don't have to get dinner for myself."
"But I said those were my dinner..."
Jewel smirked and turned away from Bunny, helping herself to a shiny red apple.
"Hey guys, isn't it awesome that we found this basket full of apples just sitting here?"
The other unicorns laughed and agreed.
Crying, Bunny turned and tried to run out of the tent.
Unfortunately Jewel decided to trip Bunny and sent her tumbling face first into a puddle of mud.
"Look everyone, Bunny got so hungry that shes eating a mud pie!"
All of the unicorns pointed and laughed at Bunny.
Quickly pulling herself up she took off into the forest sobbing.
Once again she ran passed the large shadow who was now standing under the shade of a tree on the edge of town.
It briefly watched her run by before it turned it's gaze over tot he tent where Jewel and the other unicorns were playing with the apples bunny had gathered.
The shadow watched as Jewel dumped the basket on the ground and began stomping on all of the apples that bunny worked hard to pick.
Letting out a tremendous roar, the shadowed creature ran at the tent where the unicorns were gathered.
On the way to the tent the creature flipped tables and threw benches to the side.
Seeing the large creature rushing towards them the other unicorns screamed and frantically ran in every direction.

Stopping under a tree Bunny sat down in the mud and tried to clear the tears from her eyes.
Her coat was covered in mud and her mane was filthy and knotted.
"I don't understand why Jewel always has to pick on me." she thought to herself "I've never done anything to her. but she always seems to single me out to be the butt of her pranks."
Hearing their shrieks of terror Bunny whipped her head up and stared in the direction of the village.
"I don't know what's happening but those jerks deserve whatever it is."
Standing up, Bunny took a deep breath and headed off in the direction of the village.
"They may be jerks but they need my help" she thought to herself as she ran through the trails as fast as her legs would carry her.
Reaching the edge of the village Bunny looked on in horror.
Pinned under a table was Jewel and standing over her was a large, green, humanoid creature.
It had black, scraggly hair that reached halfway down it's back and green skin that had numerous blisters and boils.
It was easily three times the height of Bunny and had short, stubby legs.
The creature had thick, muscular arms that reached down to it's knees.
Roaring, the creature picked up the picnic table with one arm and tossed it over it's shoulder.
Bunny watched on and shuddered in fear.
Each of those arms could easily twist Bunny into a knot but she knew she had to be brave.

Jewel looked up and saw Bunny standing at the edge of the picnic area and called out to her.
"Bunny help! I don't know what this ugly thing is but get it away from me!"
Bunny took a few shaky steps towards the creature but stopped when she saw all the apples had been stomped on.
Bunny narrowed her eyes and stared down at Jewel.
Jewel's coat was as dirty as Bunny's and no longer shown like her namesake.
"It's not so fun to be covered in filth is it Jewel" Bunny thought to herself as she watched the creature reaching slowly towards Jewel.
Jewel saw Bunny standing there and called out to her again, desperation creeping into her voice.
"Bunny please! I'm sorry I did all those awful things to you!"
The creature grabbed a fistful of Jewel's mane and lifted her into the air.
"I won't do it ever again, just please do something, I'm begging you!"
Taking a deep breath Bunny picked up a rock and threw it at the creature as hard as she could.
The rock hit the back of the creature's head with a loud thwack.
Grabbing the back of it's head the creature threw Jewel into a nearby bush and turned back towards Bunny.
Jewel hit the ground with a grunt and laid motionless.
Bunny didn't have time to go check if Jewel was okay as the creature began to run towards bunny with it's arms swinging like clubs.
Bunny knew if she got hit by one of them it would be all over so she took off into the woods.
Soon the creatures thunderous footfalls mixed with the thunder from the storm and Bunny could no longer tell if the creature was still following her.
Just as she stopped to catch her breath a small tree went sailing right by her head causing her to resume running.
Bunny was quickly getting tired and she knew that the creature would soon catch up with her.
Looking around, she saw a group of trees in a clearing that looked like they could be knocked over if Bunny hit them hard enough.
Standing behind the trees Bunny crouched down and waited for the creature to appear.
Moments later the creature entered the clearing and roared.
Bunny crouched down and pulled her hind legs close to her body.
As the creature approached the line of trees Bunny kicked a tree as hard as she could causing it to snap and hit the creature directly in the face.
Clutching it's face the creature fell to the ground and howled in pain.
"Owww" it cried as it curled into a ball amidst the mud "That... hurt...uwaaahh!"
Watching the creature act so pitifully Bunny felt oddly guilty about what she had done and slowly approached the crying mass.
"Um...excuse me?"
Bunny stepped near the creature and gently put her hoof on it's shoulder.
"I'm sorry for hitting you with the tree like that. Are you okay?"
The creature looked up at Bunny, it's green face swollen and scratched up where the tree hit it.
"Gretta not scare little ones anymore, please no more hit Gretta with tree."
Bunny took a step back in surprise.
"You can talk?"
The creature nodded slowly as it pulled itself into a sitting position amidst the mud.
"Gretta not pretty or good with words so Gretta made fun of many time by others."
Thinking about the similarities in what Gretta said compared to her own situation Bunny frowned.
"Because Gretta picked on Gretta live in woods away from others."
"Why were you trying to hurt Jewel and the others back in the village?"
"Gretta not mean get so mad. Gretta see little ones stomping on Gretta's food and Gretta remember old days when Gretta picked on."
Bunny looked at Gretta in shock.
"Wait a minute, that was YOUR food I took?"
Gretta nodded her head slowly.
"Gretta not want hurt animals so Gretta grow own apples for food."
"I'm sorry Gretta, I didn't realize I was stealing your food."
"It is okay, little one not seem so bad once she not hitting Gretta with tree."
"I already said I was sorry!"
Gretta let out a low, rumbling noise and after a few moments Bunny realized that Gretta was laughing.
"Hang on! Are you teasing me?"
Gretta smiled at Bunny and nodded her head.
"Gretta not think little one is bad like others so Gretta try to have fun with little one."
Bunny looked up at Gretta dumbfound before breaking out into a fit of giggles.
"I think we can be good friends, but my name isn't little one."
"Gretta not know name though."
Bunny walked over to where Gretta was sitting and reached a placed a hoof in Gretta's hand.
"Well Gretta, my name is Bunny and it's wonderful to make a new friend."
Gretta gently shook Bunny's hoof.
"Gretta not understand thing, maybe Bunny help?"
"Sure thing, what do you want to know?"
"If Bunny try help friends when Gretta angry, why friends bully Bunny like others bully Gretta?"
Bunny walked over and sat next to Gretta with a huff.
"They pick on me because I'm not as pretty or thin as they are."
"Why Bunny not stop them?
"I know it's not right but they're my friends and i'm sure they don't mean it really. They're just trying to have fun."
Gretta looked down at Bunny and frowned.
"Bunny friends bad kind friend."
Bunny sat in silence for a few minutes before looking up at Gretta.
"You know what? You're absolutely right." she took a deep breath and held it for a moment before continuing. "They're all awful unicorns and I don't need those kinds of friends in my life anymore."
Filling with frustration Bunny slams her hoof into the mud causing it to speckle her face.
"Especially Jewel! I don't understand what her problem is but I'm sick of her always bullying me!"
Gretta grunted in acknowledgement.
"Maybe Bunny need do something about not friends?"
Bunny sat in science for a few minutes before shrugging her shoulders.
As the two sat under the cover of a tree the storm broke and the clouds slowly cleared.
There was a rustling coming from nearby and Jewel poked her head trough the brush.
"Bunny? you're still alive?"
Bunny looked over at jewel and nodded.
"Yeah, I'm alright." She motioned her head towards Gretta "She wont be scaring anyone anymore either."
Jewel hops out of the brush and walks towards Bunny and Gretta.
"You hear that Guys? Tummy actually managed to do something right for a change!"
There was a chorus of laughter and insults as the rest of Jewel's friends came out of hiding and walked behind Jewel.
Jewel walks over to Gretta and kicks a rock at Bunny.
"woah, would you look at this misshapen freak?"
There is a murmur of agreement from the others.
"And the troll is pretty ugly too."
The murmurs turn into a chorus of laughter.
Bunny and Gretta look at each other for a moment before Bunny stands up and walks over behind the line of trees.
"Hey everyone look, I think we made it feel bad"
As Jewel stands there laughing Bunny pulls her rear legs in and kicks another tree down on her.
Bunny motions for Gretta to follow her and the two walk away laughing.
