- Final Fantasy X-2
- Platform: PS2
- Released (d.m.y):
- 13.03.2003 (J)
- 18.11.2003 (NA)
- 20.02.2004 (PAL)
- 19.02.2004 (J, ILM)
- Based on: PAL-version (SLES-51815)
- - A single save file takes 220 kb of space. You should keep your save
- files on a single memory card to avoid accidentally overwriting the
- wrong file.
- - You can do a soft reset by hitting the usual buttons.
- - The game uses a damage formula where DFP acts as a damage multiplier.
- - If you run away from battle, you'll still receive spoils from any
- enemies you may have killed.
- - Pretty much all normal enemies give 1 AP when killed (2 in Oversoul).
- Individual characters also gain 1 AP whenever they successfully use an
- Ability (excluding Attack, including Item). Successfully means that it
- needs to have the intended effect. Healing actions actually need to
- recover HP and so forth. Stealing an item that you already have 99 of
- does give you AP, though.
- × Any pending recovery actions will be performed at the end of a battle.
- × The max amount of AP you can gain from killing an enemy is 99.
- - There are a few actions that can overlap with other actions (such as
- Attack and Pray).
- - Landing multiple hits on an enemy within a short amount of time results
- in a chain. Chaining even two hits produces a decent increase in damage
- (starting with approximately 50%). You will not receive a chain bonus
- if you attack the enemy while they're performing an action or preparing
- for an action and they're immune to being interrupted.
- - If a subject is attacked from behind, they will take double damage.
- This applies to both you and the enemy. It's hard to take advantage of,
- so you don't really have to think about it.
- - Once you've killed a certain number of enemies belonging to a specific
- species, the next enemy in that species will become an Oversoul in which
- case they will have increased stats and different attacks. Not all enemies
- can be Oversouled, though. The Oversoul flag will remain in effect until
- you've killed an Oversoul individual in that species. The game keeps track
- of enemies you've encountered and Oversouled. Merely seeing an enemy get
- Oversouled is enough to have it listed as being Oversouled.
- - Throughout the guide, I'll be giving some advice on Oversouling certain
- enemies with the goal of eventually Oversouling every enemy and obtaining
- The End.
- - Switching to a DS with status immunity will clear that status ailment.
- Equipping an accessory with status immunity will also clear the ailment
- once you get into a battle.
- - Changing into and out of a Dressphere for the first time always gives
- you the long animation. You should get these over with as soon as you
- can so you don't have to look at the long sequences during a tough battle
- that you may have to repeat.
- - Unfortunately, there's no way to turn off the battle voices. Aside
- from possibly / likely getting on your nerves, they will cost you actual
- time, as the character will not act until they're done with their line
- (applies to command-related lines).
- - Accessories do not affect Special Dresspheres. Grids will affect the
- stat multiplier of the main part. The stats affected are HP, MP, Str,
- Def, Mag and MDF. The multiplier is 1 + 0,04x, where x is the number
- of nodes the grid has. When looking at the left and right parts in the
- menu, the same multiplier may seem to apply, but, once in battle, their
- multiplier switches to the highest possible figure (1,24).
- - Selling price for items is 25%.
- - Regen / Poison: 3,125%.
- - Stealing from machina-type enemies will not instantly kill them.
- - Double Items does not affect accessories.
- - New status ailments:
- × Pointless: Character won't receive any Exp or AP.
- × Itchy: Unable to act until Dressphere is changed.
- × Curse: Unable to change Dresspheres.
- - When scanning enemies, the icons that indicate status effects are in
- this order:
- ID PTR SLP SLC DRK PSN CNF BSK CRS EJC ?? ??
- ?? ?? RFL SLW STP StrD MagD DefD MDFD AccD EvaD LckD
- - Most of the game is optional, so you don't have to do things in the
- order they're listed, if at all.
- - There's no concrete reward for getting 100% event rate. This guide is
- not specifically concerned with that achievement, although I have listed
- as many events as I could find, so, yes, if you trigger enough of them
- and don't skip them, you should eventually reach 100%. (I suspect there
- are many scenes you can skip while still getting full points from them,
- but without knowing exactly which they are, you probably don't want to
- risk it.)
- - While 100% is the max figure, there's enough points to get you a little
- above it, so there's some room for error.
- - Some events are split into multiple parts, with each one giving you
- points towards your event rate. As such, you'll always get points from
- the first part, as there's no way to skip it before it starts to play
- (regrettably). The option to skip a scene is sometimes limited to certain
- parts of the event.
- × The unskippable, mandatory events add up to about 112m.
- - The in-game soundtrack was never released; there's only an arranged
- version (not that I'd get it either way).
- - Trophy note: Last Mission is a cunty Fushigi Dungeon mini-game that's
- in no way affected by your main game data. It could easily be the reason
- you'll never Plat the game. It's got 80 floors, and it's hard just to
- get higher than 5. There's an item that lets you save your progress,
- but even so...
- [MainScene987]. One of the scenes you can skip and will trigger
- throughout the course of the main game.
- [Scene987]. A scene you do not need to trigger in order to complete
- the game.

- [Scene031 Skip]. Talk to Tromell.
- [Scene032 Skip]. Talk to Tromell again.
- [Scene033 Skip]. Talk to Tromell yet again.
- - The Special Dresspheres are powerful but slow. They can learn both
- Double HP and Triple HP, but these don't stack; the Triple HP will simply
- replace the Double HP. Either way, their massive HP doesn't make them
- as formidable as you might think thanks to the prevalence of attacks
- that deal proportional damage.
- - Don't forget about the stat multiplier the main part gets from the
- Garment Grid. If you're planning on using a Special Dressphere in a
- single tough battle, you should use First Steps to get the highest
- multiplier.
- \\\ Macalania Woods - North End ||
- [Scene034 Skip]. This one plays when you go to the Calm Lands.
- - If you're not interested in running around too much, use the save
- sphere in Bevelle, so you can warp directly to the agency (only after
- triggering the intro scene).
- Item: Ether \\\ Calm Lands - South ||
- Blue Bullet: Blaster (Coeurl), White Wind (Coeurl - Confuse)
- Bosses: n× Amorphous Gel
- - Blaster is Gravity-elemental, so it usually doesn't work against
- enemies with high HP (check the chart in the misc. file to see the
- exceptions). When it does work, it tears off about 90% of the target's
- HP. A good choice against average enemies that gain a substantial HP
- boost when they go Oversoul. The MP cost is fairly high (30), but
- you've got your Absorb (and Pilfer MP). You probably won't be using it
- much at all after C2.
- - To learn White Wind, you need to confuse the Coeurl with Dextral Wing's
- Crazy Wing or Full Throttle's Fright.
- Items: 2× Chocobo Feathers \\\ Calm Lands - Central ||
- Shop: Wristband - 1000 gil, Amulet - 1000 gil
- - Talk to the man with the accent at the agency to trigger a little
- side task. I wouldn't really call it a quest. It works like the publicity
- thing in that you need to talk to certain NPCs with Square and choose
- a line to score points. This one only has two possible rewards, and the
- better one only requires 30 points. Once you have that, you don't need
- to bother with it anymore. You won't get the reward until C5, though.
- Quest: Publicity Campaign (Open Air / Argent) \\\ Calm Lands - North ||
- Item: Phoenix Down
- Item (nc): Calm Lands Discount Pass (Key)
- Shop: 1 credit - 10 gil, Charm Bangle - 500 credits
- - Get to one of the hovers to sign up for the publicity campaign. You
- should go with Argent on your first playthrough. Either way, to successfully
- complete the quest, you need 400 points. You can get 5 points at most
- from a single NPC. You can reach 400 in C3 at earliest.
- - Ride the hover ten times to obtain the Discount Pass.
- - The Charm Bangle has the lovely No Encounters ability (and Luck +10).
- If you don't want to spend 5000 gil, you can just wait. You'll get two
- in C2.

- already using Chicken Wing Lv1 at this point, with Lv3 not that far away.
- Lv1 only does 25% cHP damage, but it goes up by 25% with each level. To
- make matters worse, the larger members of the family tend to get back
- hits with the attack. You can only survive that with Protect. They only
- use it once at the beginning of the battle. The attack has limited

- to make Rikku responsible for the future incidents in which case you can
- get a unique accessory in addition to an Episode Complete.
- - Once you finally pass through the area, you'll obtain one more item

- - In this mini-game, you're supposed to choose the direction you think

- - Again, if you fail too many times, the game will move on to the event

- - It's actually possible to catch the chocobo during the rodeo, but I
- don't know if there's a specific trigger or if it's just based on chance.
- In any case, if this happens, you'll need to reset.

- (or C5 if you don't do it in C3). Just make sure you talk to Clasko at
- Mushroom Rock before the end of the chapter, otherwise you'll miss it.

- Quest: Clasko Making His Move / Clasko's Big Find - Clean Sweep
- Items (nc): Alchemist (DS), Highroad Winds (GG), Gysahl Greens,
- Pahsana Greens, (Strength of One) (GG), (Mounted Assault) (GG)
- - Only one of the sixteen fiends is real at a time. The rest will face
- its direction allowing you to figure out the real target. There are
- five targets in total (plus the last one that isn't accompanied by
- illusions). Luckily, they will not respawn if you choose to leave.
- [Scene123 - 0:15]. Dispatch the 5th group of fiends.
- [Scene124 - 0:36]. Dispatch the last group of fiends.
- - From now on, you'll find a little chocobo statue thing by the agency
- that allows you to warp to the ranch.
- - Once you've got a bunch of chocobos, feel free to try and score the
- grids. You'll get one when a dispatched chocobo with less than full
- health fails to find any items. There are four items a chocobo may find
- that vary depending on the location and the chocobo's level. Each item
- has a separate roll, so in order to have a chance of getting the grids,
- you need to fail all four rolls. You have the best chances when sending
- Timid chocobos to Calm Lands and / or Djose.
- - I suggest you at least get Strength of One (for maximum ownage). It
- seems you'll always get that before Mounted Assault, so it shouldn't be
- too hard. Timid chocobos are most common in Besaid. I suggest sending
- two of them at a time. If one of them runs away, but you get the grid
- with the other, just save the game.
- - At full health, finding no items just gives you the message "Bad news.
- It didn't find any treasure." After getting the grids, finding no items
- gives you a Grenade.
- - A dispatched chocobo will return once you've fought 7 battles. If
- you want to do those battles right away in the Calm Lands, you'll want
- to return to the Celsius and then beam down to the agency. For some
- reason, the encounter rate drops dramatically when you return to the
- field from the ranch. In any case, save the game before talking to
- Clasko, so you can re-roll the result(s). If you're just not getting
- lucky, let the chocobos return and try again later.
- - Below you can see which locations each type of chocobo is best suited for.

- [MainScene127 Skip]. Approach the ledge.
- - Don't miss the other chains (behind the towers).
- - Play around with the six towers until you've formed a staircase
- leading all the way down. There are 6 platforms in total. The top 3
- ones can't be moved and are the ones that allow you to proceed. I'm
- using the top platform as a point of reference. The tower by this
- platform is blue tower 1 (B1)(approaching the hole here will not
- change the camera angle).
- × Blue tower 1: Move platform 60 degrees clockwise.
- × Blue tower 2: Move platform 180 degrees (no boss).
- × Blue tower 3: Move platform 60 degrees counter-clockwise.
- × Red towers: Select platform. R1: 4. R2: 5. R3: 6. The red lights
- will not go out, so you simply have to remember which one you've
- activated.
- B1
- R3 R1
- B3 B2
- R2
- - Activating the first two blue towers triggers encounters with YSLS-Zero,
- whereas activating the first two red towers triggers encounters with
- YSLS-99. If you don't activate all three towers, it's possible to move
- the lower platforms without re-fighting the bosses (instead, you'll fight
- YSLS-Zero with B3 and YSLS-99 with B1), but the bosses are worth more Exp,
- so I'd go with those (trust,me, you'll need it).
- - After activating all red towers, you'll always get Georapella from B3.
- - After activating all blue towers, you'll always get Precepts Guard from B1.
- × Georapella: 4420 HP (6641), 800 Exp, 1000 Gil, W:H
- × Precepts Guard: 3680 HP (7864), 700 Exp, 800 Gil, W:H
- × Likes to use Death.
- - You could use this opportunity to Oversoul the two Defenders. You need
- 14 kills for them to go OS. Leave two of the red towers inactive, then
- get close to 14 kills before you activate the last blue tower. You'll
- encounter YSLS-Zeroes normally in the Labyrinth, so just get it to OS,

- - You can't use your own coins during the tournament, but the coins
- they provide you with are good enough.
- - The Garment Grids can be acquired by choosing border coins with the
- Item trait. I suggest you at least grab the White Signet. You can keep
- the grids even if you lose. You can't challenge the woman with the dog
- until you've won two games. She's one of the tougher players here
- (relatively speaking)(40 quota, 15 turns, 45 seconds), but, like I said,
- you don't have to win to keep the grid. If you just go with 3-coin echoes
- and manage to avoid 1s, you should have no trouble.
- [Scene146 - 0:44]. Plays when you get three wins.
- |
- [Scene147a - 1:05]. Beat Shinra (50 quota, 15 turns, 45s).
- [Scene147b - 1:31]. Plays if you lose.
- - Using Lady Luck's Congrats (7-7-7 on Random Reels) would allow you
- to dispatch any enemy that isn't immune to Bribe with little effort.
- It's easy to pull off with a little help from the Start button and not
- unreasonable even without it (unlike Joker Doom or Final Heaven). I'm
- going to have recommend against using it. I'd avoid using Magic Reels -
- Ultima as well, although it's nowhere near as powerful.
- - You can use Magic Reels - Cura (one Cherry) for healing. There's also
- Auto-Life (single)(2 or 3 Staves).
- - Lady Luck is the class I use the most until I hit Lv99.
- - Failing to score anything on the Reels results in Dud, which hits all
- your characters for 75% cHP. (And you thought you'd never miss Mysidia

- - At this point, you'll need to start fiddling with the CommSphere
- Network. Initially, you can only connect to four locations (Mushroom
- Rock Road and Bevelle will have CommSpheres even if you never went to
- these locations during C3).
- - The CommSphere events can be skipped by disconnecting, but you may need
- to wait and / or play around with the camera until the character appears
- or starts talking (or something happens). When done right, a different
- event will play the next time you connect or there's simply nothing
- happening.
- [MainScene174 Skip]. Connect to Besaid. (Chat with Wakka)

- - At this point, you can connect to the other CommSpheres as well.
- - If you still can't connect to Zanarkand, it means there *is* no
- CommSphere there, and you've no way to obtain the Mascot.
- [Scene190 - 0:16]. This one plays if you talk to Paine.
- [Scene191r - 0:45]. This one plays when you connect to Mi'ihen.
- |
- [Scene192 - 0:19] "Certainly."
- - You should probably save the game at this point. The evidence you
- view during the quest will determine who will be found responsible for
- the incidents. There are 5 possible results (6 if you count the scenario
- where the cause is left unknown), but only 3 of these give you an Episode
- Complete. Multiple possible results can be available at the same. Our
- goal is to find evidence that points to Rikku. This will get you an
- Episode Complete as well as a unique accessory. If you can't get Rikku,
- you'll have to settle for the Chococbo Eater who's always available
- regardless of your actions in previous chapters.
- Quest: CommSphere Investigation
- Cam 3: A bot should emerge from behind the ruined structure. Rin should
- find footprints on it.
- Cam 4: Some people should be standing near the bridge. Call Rin.
- - Rin should then inform you that you are "getting closer to the heart
- of the matter."
- Cam 5: Some robots approach the hover. Rin should find a wounded man.
- Cam 7: Rin should find more footprints.
- - If you don't have Camera #7 (Shinra's CommSphere) or you failed to
- trigger the necessary event during Machina Mayhem, show Rin the baby
- Chocobo Eater instead; with Cam 1, you'll see it chasing a bird, and
- in Cam 4, chasing a hover.
- Cam 1: Pan left and you should see Rin with the injured man from before.
- Cam 2: A guy will start hammering the roof. Upon calling Rin, he will fall.
- - Investigation closed.

- - For some bizarre reason, the Mascot's ultimate attack and Ribbon
- require the Warrior's SOS Protect.
- - Moogle Beam and Cactling Gun can deal some very nice damage with
- Break Damage Limit (50k). Both deal damage based on Lv and Str and both
- ignore defense. However, Moogle Beam deals magical damage while Cactling
- Gun does physical.
- - Regrettably, Mascot's Auto-Shell will indeed cut the power of healing
- spells in half, but at least Moogle Jolt isn't affected. That's some
- consolation.
- \\\ Calm Lands - Ruins ||
- Items (nc): (Strength of One) (GG), (Mounted Assault) (GG)
- - Don't forget about the little chocobo statue by the agency that lets
- you warp to the ranch.
- - So, the requirements for unlocking the Ruin Depths (where you'll find
- the precious Higher Power and AP Egg) are:
- 1. Successfully dispatch three different chocobos at each level.
- 2. Have four Lv5 chocobos (as Choco-Runners).
- - I get my chocobos at the Calm Lands, but it doesn't really matter
- where you get them. The odds of getting a chocobo encounter aren't
- really good in any location (it could take 15 minutes with bad luck),
- and I don't think the level cap odds vary either. I'm not sure, though.
- - You should get a full stable (14) to minimize the chances of dispatched
- chocobos running away. I myself release 5 chocobos once full, then catch
- 5 more.
- - Find out the chocobos' level caps by simply leveling them up (load the
- game afterwards) or by checking the chocobos in person. In case you forgot,
- the maximum possible level cap is the same as the current chapter, so any
- chocobos you may have caught before C5 will not do.
- - Once you have three chocobos that can be raised to Lv5 (but are still
- at Lv1), dispatch them to suitable locations depending on their nature
- as seen below.
- Normal | Besaid, Moonflow, Macalania
- Timid | Kilika, Thunder Plains, Bikanel
- Bold | Djose, Calm Lands
- Any | Mi'ihen, Mushroom Rock, Mt. Gagazet, Zanarkand
- - The chocobos will return once you've fought seven battles. As previously
- mentioned, if you're planning on doing these battles at the Calm Lands,
- you'll want to beam up in the Celsius from the ranch, then beam back to
- the agency.
- - Once you return to the ranch, SAVE THE GAME BEFORE TALKING TO CLASKO!
- If any of the chocobos ran away, reset the game. Assuming the three
- runners came back safely, level them up (to Lv2) and restore their
- health. Dispatch the runners again and simply repeat the process of
- leveling them up once after each successful field trip.
- - Dispatching a Lv4 or Lv5 chocobo to Mi'ihen is all you need to do in
- order to unlock the dungeon there (Fiend Colony). Doing so does *not*
- count as a successful dispatch.

- - If you end up Oversouling Adamantortoise or Great Malboro, I suggest
- you run away, so you can go back up and Oversoul the other member of the

- - You can only encounter optional bosses if you fought them in their
- original locations.
- - In some layouts, you'll find a Tonberry who gives you an item (Potion,
- Remedy, X-Potion, Turbo Ether, Gold Hairpin)
- - There are three visible enemies that you can fight by coming into
- contact with them.
- Tonberry: 1 - 99
- Elder Drake: 1 - 99
- Mega Tonberry: 41 - 99
- - Fighting Mega Tonberries is never required to proceed (unlike regular
- Tonberries), not even in the 'Tonberry den.' If you do bump into one,
- prepare for a fight to death, as you can't run away from them. Lv99
- Mascots with Champion Belts should be able to handle them. They have a
- long flinch, so spread your attacks and try to keep him stunlocked as
- much as you can. With any other class, you're toast.

- [Scene440 - 0:48]
- |
- [Scene441 Skip]
- |
- [Boss]
- - 999 999 HP
- - Trema is quite easy so long as you have at least 200 DFP. He will only
- use his most powerful spells once (Ultima) or twice (Meteor). Ultima does
- hit for almost 10k, though, so keep your HP up after the second Meteor.
- |
- [Scene442 Skip]
- Boss: (OS) Mega Tonberry \\\ Cloister X ||
- Blue Bullet: Cry in the Night (OS Mega Tonberry)
- - Go kill Tonberries until you're one kill away from Oversoul.
- - OS Mega Tonberry is easier to handle than the regular one, since he
- casts magic about half the time. Cry in the Night is used only once
- when he's below 20% HP. They have 51 030 HP in total. Chef's Knife is
- always used on the character farthest away from him.
- - The Iron Duke lets you reach 255 DFP with one character, so she'll
- only take 1000 pod per hit (double on critical). The other two will
- have 220 DFP and they'll take 3500 pod per hit. Flare does the same
- amount of damage, but at least it can't crit.
- - Start by popping a Stamina Tonic and taking out the regular Tonberry.
- Get him close to the 20% mark (10 206 HP), then have one character
- switch to a Gun Mage. There's a good chance he'll alternate using Chef's
- Knife on two characters, so one of your characters is relatively safe
- in another class. Use Scan to confirm his HP. Once he's one hit away
- from going below 20% (use 1000 Needles if you don't want to risk getting
- a critical), wait for him to attack the Iron Duke character and have
- the Gun Mage attack at that point. Now, quickly have the other two
- characters switch to Gun Mages. Cry in the Night itself is not much of
- an issue with Double HP (~1400 pod). Once it hits, switch back to Mascot
- and finish him off.
