  1. 06[11:02] * Hana_Val-Kala is seated in the middle of the town after the battle, just in front of the church. She has her eyes closed and could be meditating or praying.
  2. 01[11:03] <Sylvie> Baldoin the griffon steps out of the church, preening a bit, before he notices her. He squawks at her direction, before gesturing inside.
  3. 06[11:05] * Hana_Val-Kala is silent, continuing to sit there.
  4. 01[11:06] <Sylvie> He squawks again.
  5. 06[11:08] * Hana_Val-Kala opens her eyes and shoots him a hard look...just in case Sylvie is looking through his eyes before standing and heading towards the church.
  6. 01[11:09] <Sylvie> He goes inside too, going towards the Scrutator's quarters, before sitting down and preening some more.
  7. 06[11:10] * Hana_Val-Kala heads inside
  8. 06[11:11] * Sylvie is inside, hunched over the scrutator's desk, a large map of the Protectorate splayed out in front of her. She seems to be trying to work a compass to figure something out, before hurling the instrument at a wall. "Hana. How far can an army reasonably advance in a day?"
  9. [11:12] <Hana_Val-Kala> "...what sort of army?"
  10. 01[11:13] <Sylvie> "A Protectorate one."
  11. [11:16] <Hana_Val-Kala> "...it depends on a lot of factors..." Hana ponders. "Twenty to thirty miles a day?"
  12. 01[11:18] <Sylvie> "So..." She looks at the scale again. "Anywhere from three to five days, once word gets back to them. Maybe 5 or 6 days until we can expect a counterattack."
  13. 01[11:18] <Sylvie> "Oh, I am distracted. I wanted to speak to you on something else."
  14. [11:18] <Hana_Val-Kala> "And that was?"
  15. 01[11:19] <Sylvie> "Earlier, during our fight with the warcaster. You unnecessarily revealed yourself to him to offer him mercy."
  16. [11:21] <Hana_Val-Kala> "It was worth an attempt. He was surrounded and outclassed."
  17. 01[11:22] <Sylvie> "He was also a knight, filled to the brim with righteous fury. The others...they were workers, laborers. But the knight and his ilk would have never accepted that. It would be worse than death to them."
  18. 01[11:23] <Sylvie> "Though I am not here to lecture you on what knights are. You put yourself in danger and threatened to ruin our ambush out of sentimentality."
  19. [11:24] <Hana_Val-Kala> "He was also barely younger than we were. A foolish child."
  20. 01[11:26] <Sylvie> "We do not have the luxury of taking risks like that. If anything that makes it less likely he would heed you."
  21. [11:28] <Hana_Val-Kala> "It was worth an attempt." She repeats herself. "After all, a few days ago I would not have thought a Tharn capable of leaving a Scrutator unharmed."
  22. 01[11:31] <Sylvie> "I was shocked by that too, but it's not relevant."
  23. [11:33] <Hana_Val-Kala> "It is, in many ways. It shows that nothing is certain." She sighs. "It was, however, pointless in the end."
  24. 01[11:35] <Sylvie> "In any case, make sure we know if you're going to attempt something like that in the future. We must be cautious in our risks in this mission, lest we fail and calamity come to our dominion."
  25. [11:38] <Hana_Val-Kala> "...I think it is a little late for that." Hana still seems to be a bit lost in thought.
  26. 01[11:39] <Sylvie> "We have not failed yet. And I do not intend to fail."
  27. 01[11:39] <Sylvie> "In any case, that's all I had. We have a day or two of rest before we need to get to work drawing the Skorne."
  28. [11:39] <Hana_Val-Kala> "Yet Calamity walks our domain." She nods "Yes...I think I am feeling less merciful there."
