- Sonic Adventure 2: 180 Emblem Speedrun FAQ
- Q: What console is this on?
- A: I am playing this on the PC Steam version with a PS4 controller as it is the superior version to run the game in RTA due to loading.
- Q: What is this run?
- A: This run involves me collecting every single emblem in the whole game from a new file with no previous Chao data.
- Q: Why is this run so long?
- A: The game has a lot content. This run requires me to complete every single mission (155 missions with Emblems) with A ranks (7 A-Rank Emblems), as well as Kart Racing (3 Emblems), Boss Rush (3 Emblems), All 3 stories (3 Emblems) and all the Chao Emblems (5 Racing, 4 Karate).
- Q: Isn't this 100% then?
- A: This game doesn't have a % counter, so to avoid arbitrary conditioning, I call it 180 Emblems as it's very clear what the goal of the category is ^_^
- Q: What is required for an A rank?
- A: For Missions 1,4 & 5, I need a certain amount of points which I get from destroying enemies, collecting rings/items, doing tricks & time bonus. For missions 2 & 3, I just need to go fast.
- Q: What is the World Record?
- A: The current best time I have is 8:56:37. My eventual aim is a clean, deathless run! (Here is a link to my major timesaves in the run https://pastebin.com/35ajV6yM)
- Q: Why aren't Emblems being collected?
- A: A trick called Emblem Skip Glitch (ESG) was activated which allows me to skip the majority of the Emblem Cutscenes. Here's a detailed description of how it works https://pastebin.com/PmwPLYjs. It is triggered before the run starts. The SA2 community does not consider the set-up as part of the run as the run still starts from a new file and nothing else has been changed (other than the route)
- Q: Why do you do Dark story before Hero story?
- A: The beginning of Dark Story is much less reliable than the beginning of Hero Story (Dry Lagoon and Sand Ocean in particular), so I prefer to get those out of the way sooner
- Q: Why are you pausing so much during mech stages?
- A: When you hover immediately after you jump, you gain some extra height in your jump. The smaller the window between the jump and the hover, the higher your jump. I pause in order to minimise the time between the jump and the hover.
- Q: How did you go straight into Knuckle's section of Cannon's Core Mission 3?
- A: In the run you complete Cannon's Core Mission 2 as Rouge, however the game still has it flagged to begin the next section of Cannon's Core (in this case Knuckles) when a certain trigger is activated, which can be done from going to the chao lobby, or completing a driving stage, hence the interlacing of Route 101 during Cannon's Core. This skips Tails', Eggman's, and Rouge's sections of Cannon's Core M3, saving roughly 2 and a half minutes.
- Q: I thought this was a Sonic game, why are there Chibi-like creatures on the screen?
- A: You must've tuned in during the chao portion of the speedrun. In order to get all the emblems, I must collect 9 Chao emblems. This requires me to raise a new born Chao to beat all levels in Chao karate, raise a Hero & Dark Chao to unlock the Hero & Dark races and then beat every race (62 races) which takes just under 3 1/2 hours. All the in depth information on how I speedrun the chao portion can be found here http://pastebin.com/LsgFH74B
- Q: What's up with the split icons?
- A: The icons indicate how well a split went in my PB. The ranks go from S to E, an S being a near perfect split, to E being absolutely awful.
- Q: Why are you abusing/neglecting/hurting the chao?
- A: Because it's faster.
