  1. Purpose, a free synthetic colony (formerly?) located on celestial body EC-2718 in the frontier, has recently been sending drones to various locations in Tau Ceti after, they claim, having been chased by 'the enemy' away from their colony.
  2. These drones are capable of speech and observation, and use a crystalline medium that is analogous to a positronic brain. Due to this, they have no ties to Glorsh-Omega and may have arisen independently, possibly from alternate robotics research that was outcompeted by Skrellian positronics or, though less likely, arose from precursor species (or Lii'dra) development, given that this is not a known form of robotics technology.
  3. The enemy that they claim to have fled from has been identified as the Lii'dra, a hostile Vaurca hive focusing primarily on war and conflict, as well as subterfuge and deception. They are mostly known for their invasion of New Cairo, and Bursa in particular.
  4. Purpose has also identified several other threats, which have been tied to the recent Frontier disappearances, as well as the Roanoke incident, which I believe to be a continuation of the Frontier phenomenon. These are: Hostile synthetic factions (identified tentatively as The Sequence and "those of the Golden Deep"), and a biotechnology company known as Rudatek (itself a front for synthetic activity) which either manufactures or provides a cover for advanced mimicry synthetics referred to by the victims of the Vanishing Incidents as the "yee-naaldlooshii" or, in Tau Ceti Basic, "skin-walkers".
  5. The skin-walkers possess advanced holographic mimicry technology, allowing them to duplicate or pose as an organic with a near-flawless design. However, upon bleeding or being touched, their disguise will vanish.
  6. Purpose has sent drones that I have been told are "hunter-seeker drones", according to an individual who was involved with many of the Purpose incidents as well as the Roanoke incidents. Their purpose is to scan individuals and detect if they are skin-walkers. We know that these skin-walkers are distinct from shells, because when they scanned a shell, the drone commented that it was just a replica, and stated that it hoped it "stayed that way".
  7. Given that the Jargon Federation sent a Tup commando to the Roanoke wreckage (in Tau Ceti space, no less), they likely have intelligence regarding these skin-walkers. However, the Roanoke wreckage itself raises some questions.
  8. The Tup commando seemed to recognize the synthetic found on the vessel, and stated that it was "one of them". This leads us to believe that the synthetic was, in fact, a skin-walker synthetic that was responsible for the disappearance of the 630 unaccounted for individuals. In addition to the synthetic, however, a Za warform was found; a Vaurca present during its attack on the Aurora was unable to determine what hive it belonged to, as it wasn't responding. We can only assume that it is from the Lii'dra, as it was reported to be extremely hostile and engineered for combat.
  9. This sets up the (speculative) link between the biotechnology company Rudatek and the highly bioengineered Lii'dra hive. Rudatek's skin-walker was found on a ship that was either transporting or boarded by a Vaurca warform. We know that Rudatek is a front for hostile synthetic factions, but given that both seek to eradicate Purpose (and likely all other life in the galaxy, besides themselves), it is possible they have made a tentative alliance of convenience. The danger of such a possibility is grave, and not to be underestimated. The skill of the Lii'dra and the mimicry of the skin-walkers would result in an undetectable and formidable foe. I would suggest encouraging research efforts into anti-Vaurca and anti-skin-walker technology; any advantage we can find could be incredibly important, however small or large.
  10. I would also like to stress the importance of trusting Purpose. They seem to be genuine regarding their circumstances and aims, and have been forthcoming with what little information they are able to provide. They have come to us, essentially, as refugees warning us of an immeasurable threat. We have exercised proper scrutiny in dealing with them, but it is almost certain that further efforts to cross-examinate or interrogate drones from Purpose is at best in vain, and at worst extremely counterproductive to our goals.
  11. Please direct any additional questions to Captain Zahra Abbasi. This information should be restricted to Heads of Staff and necessary personnel only, to avoid any leaks of our intel or plans to Rudatek or the Lii'dra. Exercise discretion when sharing this information.
  12. Any concerns regarding possible combative measures should be shared with the Research Department's staff, though only with the minimum information necessary. Once more, exercise careful discretion.
