  1. 4. Can you think of a meme, film, or some other creative form that does not fit today or one that is more popular than it originally was produced? You may use the computer for this. Describe it and why it no longer works today. Example, the concept show and film, Entourage, the show, which had been relatively popular was rebooted in a film and flopped horribly, why? Attitudes towards sexism, depictions of women, and the treatment of women have changed. The film, The Room, was widely and rightly panned by reviewers a disaster. But in the years since people have come to see a sort of genius in that “disaster”, and the film has become a beloved cult classic with regular midnight showings around the country. It is so bad that audiences love watching what is wrong with it and thinking through the decisions made by the filmmaker.

  5. 5. Who is on Facebook and who isn’t? Or who isn’t that much and who is a lot? What is different about Facebook vs Twitter vs Tumbler vs Instagram? How do these differences affect the message you might put out on each?

  9. 6. Now think of some meme, film, or other creative form that is popular now and decide if it will be popular in 5, 20, 100 years and try to think of why it might not be. Examples are all of the films that come out, make a bunch of money, and no one ever sees them again. Musical acts that are one hit wonders. Think of “the song of the summer”: every year there seems to be a summer song that comes out that is widely listened to, sells a lot of albums, but everyone forgets about it by the time next year comes around. Another way this shows up is in movies that repeat the same plot, like Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher 1 and 2 are essentially the same film, different stunts and gags, but the same basic plot, or Keanu Reeves John Wick 1 and 2, no one will remember these movies in 20 years. However, they will, likely, be every bit as enjoyable (or not, depending upon your taste) in 5 or 20 years, because they are made to be entertaining in a very general way. I’m sure one might think of a romantic comedy about which the same would be true. However, the Star Wars films, like Solo, would’ve been eaten up in the 90s, but now, in a saturated entertainment environment, they are struggling to hold their fanbase in the face of competition from the Marvel universe. Meanwhile, will those Marvel movies suddenly stop being entertaining when the folks lose their appetite for them? A little help: what about the zombie craze, has it died down? Do you think it will stop being a thing?
