  1. It was the middle of the Vietnam War, I was deployed far into enemy lines. As I was approaching the location of the Viet Cong camp; my friend decided to take cover in the forest. As I moved deeper into the forest, I suddenly became aware that I was being followed. My friend noticed this also and whispered,
  2. “Oi, I have a sense we are being followed, should we leave?”
  3. “Yeah mate, we better head out before we get ambushed,” I replied back. As we were turning back around we saw them, two Viet Cong soldiers stealthy making their way up to us. I shouted out to my friend,
  4. “Out now.” then, I started to bolt away. I turned back to see the soldiers lifting up their rifles and aiming down their sights; if I did not get off their sights I would be gone. I heard the gunshots ring out, I saw a bullet graze my helmet as I ducked. The gunshots stopped; I was relieved until I heard the bushes start rustling. I dodged them for now, but if I did not get out they would find me. After all the fighting I got disoriented, and was confused about which way I was facing. I decided to pick one way and book it. I took deep breaths and took off far away. I did not want to look backward. As I was running my heart out, I began to wonder if they had seen me. I hesitated, however, I turned back to see them, Suddenly I saw them rise out of the bushes. I needed to leave, however I began to feel tired. My legs were giving out, and it felt like I could not run anymore. I looked back to see the soldiers that were about to end me, however they started to look the other way! Finally I have escaped the grasp of the Viet Cong and return back to base. I looked where I was walking, and saw nothing just a bunch of trees.
  5. At this point, I had no idea where to go. The only good thing about this situation is that I am not being chased by the Viet Cong. I sat down and rested so I had more energy to explore later. It was rough ground however, I had to make the best of it.
  6. I arose the next day, I did not know what time it was. I got up and was ready to explore, and try to find my way back to base. I started to walk until I felt extremely hungry, and looked into my bag to find out what I could eat. I looked in only to realise that I had no rations left. Then as I looked up I saw a flag that resembled the American flag! I walked toward the camp and was greeted by a General.
  7. “Who are you?” asked the General
  8. “I’m Captain Alex, where are we?” I replied back
  9. “Oh, you! Great to have you back. This is the camp that you were trying to sabotage earlier. We thought that you and Sean got caught; so we captured this base in hopes we could get you out of here. When you were not here we thought you got sent to a Prisoner of War camp.”
  10. “Well at least I'm back is Sean okay?”
  11. “Unfortunately we have not found Sean yet, however, he could still be alive. At this news, I decided to head into camp and rest until I got further instructions.
