- I have got a bit of intel on both of the names you sent me, I’ll start with Chen Ling. Chen Ling was a Orochi scientist who went missing about a year ago she specialized in neuroscience though some of her theories were a bit unorthodox. While she was studying at Shandong University, she was a devotee of Dr. Roger Penrose, a famous physicist with some rather unconventional ideas about the mind (mainly the quantum nature of synapses.) Her theories on the quantum nature of the mind and its relationship to para-psychological phenomena (astral projection, pre cognation, Psychokinesis etc) is probably why Orochi tapped her for project Divina. Aside from that all I know is Orochi hired her in 2010, she started work in project Divina in 2011 and she disappeared in July 2012.
- So far I have been unable to find any biographical information on Kenneth Carver other then he currently works on Divina and sits on the board of directors for the Váli institute for gifted children. I have also done a little digging in the Dragons archives and I managed to find some more information on the Váli institute, apparently it’s a school in Romania for gifted children. It claims to specialize in “uniquely” gifted children particularly those that have a hard time fitting into a normal academic setting. I am guessing these are the same kind of gifted children that Innsmouth specializes in but, Váli seems to target those who for one reason or another were not able to get into Innsmouth or perhaps those who were kicked out. At least that’s what the reports in the archives say.
- The most interesting thing about the Váli institute though has nothing to do with its students but with its teaching and administrative staff. Everyone from the principle to the janitor is a former high level Orochi employee and all of the board members currently hold leadership positions within Váli pharmaceutical (a subsidiary of the Orochi group.) The school is open about their relationship with Orochi in fact they use it as a selling point. They promise prestigious internships within Orochi and valuable “connections” that can help students achieve their goals.
- However the school doesn’t have a good reputation among the locals. They say that children go in but they never come out and more than one family has accused the school of kidnapping local children. The Draculesti are particularly weary of the Váli institute and claim to have lost numerous children to Váli. It should be noted though that the locals can not quite agree on the true nature of the Váli institute. There are all kinds of theories as to what goes on inside the school and range from the mundane (sex trafficking by the red mob) to the outrageous (a laboratory that specializes in genetic experimentation.) Given all we know about Orochi I am more inclined to believe the latter rather than the former. I was also able to get into the schools servers but was unable to find anything interesting, except for a single reference to a facility called “the nursery.” That’s where the trail ends; if we’re going find out what happened to Pickman and why Orochi was interested in him, then we will need to penetrate their network. Orochi tends to keep a record of everything so if we know whose accounts to look at we should be able to get a pretty good idea of what happened to Pickman. I have gotten into Orochi’s QEC based network twice before, and the paths I used in both previous attempts have now been blocked, so we will need to come up with a new plan get around the QEC.
