- The Daily Cal released an article on the Free Speech rally. It can be read at this link: http://www.dailycal.org/2014/12/02/students-rally-commemorate-free-speech-movement-tuesday/
- The article has errors which should be examined.
- The article states that the UC Berkeley police told people - plural - who were sleeping in Wheeler Hall (on UC Berkeley campus) to leave. But at the time when the police came, only 1 person was sleeping in the building. And the police did not ask the protester to leave; the protester was forcibly removed from Wheeler by police. Wolfie was ejected from campus property at 2AM in the rain, with an exclusionary order, without sleeping bag or rain gear.
- The article prints a claim by UCPD that protesters had declared the occupation of Wheeler Hall to be over. However, the police are conflating a statement made a small group of people that did not accurately describe the sentiment of a larger mass. Secondly, even the protesters that did agree to break off the occupation of Wheeler, only intended to halt for the long weekend and return on Monday. There was no group of protesters that ever declared the protest at Wheeler to be entirely over. Wheeler Hall was cleared out on Tuesday morning Dec 2nd at 2AM, after people returned from break.
- UCPD Lt. Marc DeCoulode is quoted in the article, "There is a difference between a protest and people lodging in buildings". However the person who was asleep in Wheeler is part of the occupation of Wheeler (which has NOT ended); Wolfie was not just lodging in Wheeler for no reason.
- After Wolfie was cleared from Wheeler Hall, the police did remove all the material in the building. But to Daily Cal, DeCoulode said there was no record the police took anything. Fliers, signs and art supplies were taken by police for the purposes of investigating the occupation.
