A HANDY GUIDE TO THE GHOULS:

Li - Chinese woman, seemingly the most rational of all the ghouls. Short and medium build. Finds origami and woodcarving very relaxing.

Esodawa - Wichita. A badass, gunslinging cowboy. Incredibly butch. Plays the violin. Tall and willowy, with muscular arms.

King - African American. The resident doctor. Constantly has his sleeves rolled up. He and James are in a subtle relationship. Plays the piano. Rightfully confident in himself and his skills. Tall and muscular. Possibly the most respected man on the ranch other than the Spirit of the West.

James - Black. A careful, considerate ranch hand. Shy and a little nervous. In a “secret” relationship with King. The type of person to have a stamp collection. Tall and thin.

Sarah - White. Assholish. Full of false bravado, first to jump in a fight. Enjoys cards. Medium height, not chubby but not thin.

Jane - A gentler, softer kind of person. Maybe a little of an intellectual. Black. In an open relationship w/ Clara. Likes reading. Graceful and slightly chubby.

Estefan - Guatemalan. A distinctive biting wit. In a relationship with Valdez. A bit of a jokester. Medium height and build.

Valdez - From Belize. Very quiet and excellent with a gun. In a relationship with Estefan. Tall, scarred face, ruggedly handsome. Slightly muscular.

Benedict - White. German. A little bit of a wimp who uses big words to make himself sound smarter. May actually be smarter. Definitely an asshole. Wears glasses. Is a skinny beanpole. Tallest of the ghouls.

Clara - White. Playful sense of humor. Doesn’t care what anyone else says. Likes baking. Also slightly chubby, because of indulgence in said baking.

Etchemin - Algonquian. Married to Wyome. Doesn’t talk much. Enjoys the horses. A surprisingly soft and gentle singer. Thin.

Wyome - Algonquian. Married to Etchemin. Gossipy type. Very crafty, and enjoys knitting and weaving. Less thin than Etchemin.

David - White. Blonde. Brags too much. Very good at and greatly enjoys cards. Smokes and drinks because there’s no ill effect of doing it anymore. Thin and lanky, probably a heart-throb when he was alive.

Chi - Vietnamese. The most recent arrival, still slightly rattled by “ghoul stuff”. Died in the 1960s. Oftentimes appears to regret taking the Spirit of the West’s deal. Distant from the other ghouls, having arrived around seventy years after everyone else. Depressed loner type. Medium build.

Jonah - Black. Muscular and sturdy, the heavy lifter around the ranch. Was interested in Wyome when she first arrived, but had no interest in homewrecking. Now has an off-again-off-again relationship with Elizabeth. Can play the viola, cello, and violin. Enjoys horseshoes and footraces.

Paul - Mormon. White. A holier-than-thou type, not very popular. Surprisingly, grills very good food and loves cooking. Short. Wears shirts too large for him.

Elizabeth - Black. A beautiful and strong singer, overweight. Makes her own dresses and clothes with Wyome. Learned a few things from King about medical stitching and taught him how to sew. Medium-tall height. On-again-off-again relationship with Jonah.

Xiang -  Chinese. Close friends with Li. Enjoys fluting and kites. Frequently goes barefoot. Likes eating the peaches or apples or blueberries intended for pie and cobbler before it actually goes into the pie. Clara hates him for it. Tall and spriggy. Rarely serious.

Maria - From Sinaloa. A devout Catholic who is frequently at odds with Paul. The one who delivers calves, along with King. Adores baby animals. Typically the one responsible for cockatrice wrangling, or dealing with any other ‘difficult’ animals. She has a way with them. Short and overweight.

Shasa - Black Mexican from Oaxaca. Drop-dead gorgeous and confident. Loves swimming. Telling stories. Can play the piano and sing like an angel. Still slightly outdoorsy. Tall, almost Amazonian.

Shade - Oldest of all the ghouls. Died in 1764 from a rockslide while trying to go through the Appalachians. Was the sole ghoul on the ranch for 70 years. No longer all there, literally or figuratively. Translucent and gray. Features are blurry and indistinct. Very rarely responds to external stimuli.
