  1. November 13th, 1989
  2. Vienna, Austria
  3. 19:56
  4.
  5. The silence that hung in the cold, November air was somehow deafening. The streets busy by day soon emptied moments after the sunset. Vincent Jones and Alistair Laurant drove through an area which was a market just 3 hours earlier. Inside was smoke, which had risen to the top from their cigars,
  6. "Two's not dropping like flies you know." Jones said. Alistair raised his eyebrows,
  7. "What?"
  8. "J-just earlier when you said everyone was dropping like flies. Two isn't... two isn't dropping like flies."
  9. "Two people in half a year."
  10. "Alright, alright," Jones was silent, "What'd the fucking plague hit? Where is everyone?" he asked three minutes later.
  11. "It's pretty late, Vinny."
  12. "Pretty late? Where's the nightlife? Where's the prostitutes?"
  13. "Fuck's wrong with you, you wanna buy a prostitute?"
  14. "I wouldn't like to buy one, I'd just like for there to be an option to."
  15. "Man, Miami's done some screwed up things to you. How's David?"
  16. "Eh, he's fine. He keeps calling me though to do stuff. B-but that's not the point, if I wanted to talk to you about the other guys I'd have to bring up Kathleen and Walter and I don't want to do that." Jones said sternly.
  17. "Why not?"
  18. "I don't know, it's kind of a dick move to bring up something Kathleen did when we were teenagers. Okay, you weren't but the rest of us were."
  19. "Maybe I was the only one sensible enough to see that getting a close friend hooked on cocaine is an unacceptable thing to fucking do!"
  20. "It was ten years ago and you're still mad about something that didn't even happen to you. I was the fucking victim in this situation, you don't get to be pissed on my behalf, Ali."
  21. "Fine, fine," they sat in the car silently for a minute, "Do you want to hear about the job or not?" Jones nodded. Alistair pulled out another cigar and told him,
  22. "Right, so... I don't even need to ask this, but you remember Mr. Hawkins right?"
  23. "Yeah no shit."
  24. "Just checking. Anyway with all the money he's gotten from those scammy bank heists he managed to get some mansion in Vienna."
  25. "You're shitting me."
  26. "No, I"m not. So the plan is we're going to take him out. The only problem is we don't know where his house is. We know what it looks like though."
  27. "So?"
  28. "Open the glove compartment, Vinny." Jones opened the glove compartment and 6 Polaroids fell out. Each picture showed a similar angle of the house. White ivory pillars, roofs looking like they were torn right off of a Southern Italian villa, a statue garden and meticulously trimmed vegetation all around. Jones rifled through them,
  29. "If we don't know where it is how are we gonna find him?"
  30. "I got his lawyer's business card." Alistair handed a small cardboard business card with the name "Oskar D. Voß" written in German.
  31. "What does this say Ali?"
  32. "Doesn't matter, point is he should be right around here." Alistair drove the car underneath a large highway bridge. The smell of oil and cigarettes filled the air. They both stepped out of the car and parked it near a makeshift fireplace barrel. Alistair pulled out a golden stopwatch,
  33. "Okay, it's exactly 8 PM right now. That gives us 4 hours to find the mansion. Let's try to find it before midnight."
  34. "Does that really matter, Ali?"
  35. "What do you mean?"
  36. "Who fucking cares if it gets done late, if it gets done it gets done."
  37. "I don't know it seemed fun." They both walked towards a man in a burgundy suit who looked suspiciously like Oskar Voss.
