  1. Mental game components needed to succeed in 1v1 tournaments:
  2. 1. Adapt to opponent
  3. Know how your opponent tends to choose and adapt your choice to meet your opponent's expected choice. Be familiar with picking patterns and adapt.
  4. 2. Willingness to take risks
  5. Make intelligent but risky plays. Be bold in meeting your opponent's expected choice. Do not always retreat to the safe or obvious choice.
  6. 3. No predictable pattern
  7. The harder it is for your opponents to know what you will do, the better you are. Do not display predictable picking patterns.
  8. 4. Know matchups
  9. Know which Pokemon on your team beats which one of your opponents'. Recognize which one of your Pokemon are not viable choices. Predict that your opponent will do the same. Guess your opponents' sets if needed based on what your opponent needs to use to beat certain Pokemon. Furthermore, recognize lures and make obscure choices that defeat the lures.
  10. 5. Avoid mistakes
  11. Simply, avoid making bad plays. This is a catch-all.
