  1. It was Hearth's Warming Eve, and Trixie was drunk . She supposed she had a lot to be grateful for. After a long period of being a laughingstock and a terrible blunder with an evil amulet, she was finally again on tour and popular, drawing huge crowds wherever she went.
  2.
  3. Despite that, though, nobody ever seemed to want to get to know her for real. She remembered her past fights with Twilight Sparkle. She always thought she hated Twilight because she was recognized for her magical skill.
  4.
  5. Really, though, she hated her because she had true friends who wouldn't abandon her even when she failed. Trixie, though, found out that all her so-called friends wanted nothing to do with her when she made a fool of herself.
  6.
  7. Trixie, she thought to herself, you can't blame Twilight for that. Looking back on her past, she realized she had no true friends because she either had bad taste in friends or, when she did have a friend who cared about her, she took advantage of them and sucked them dry until nothing was left.
  8.
  9. She couldn't think what to do with this insight and wished she had more booze to drown it out.
  10.
  11. A sudden series of taps at the fabric of her stagecoach door distracted her from her self-loathing. "Who dares to disturb the Great and --" oh give it up, Trixie. "Yes?"
  12.
  13. It was that Diamond Dog, Growf, whose family she employed. "Growf knows this is a pony holiday, but you seem. . .lonely. Would Great Trixie join us for dinner?"
  14.
  15. Any other day, she would have haughtily declined, but tonight, she realized she could no longer afford to turn down any genuine kindness.
  16.
  17. "Yes, Growf. Trixie -- I'd be delighted."
