- 01 Decoded
- Some kind of industrial hiphop hybrid thing: We’re a bit woozy, and stumbling into the brave new world we’ve created in a skin we don’t quite fit yet.
- 02 All Said
- I feel like the way this opens is like a new scene opening on some ancient landscape that looks more-or-less human. Then we get closer, zooming on details, we’re made aware just how new and unfamiliar it actually is. It follows on from the first track in that drunken hiphop sense, but the main synths here are off kilter and constantly moving, trying to show that we’ve moved from 2D to 3D here, and a whole new shape to go with it.
- 03 Grata
- A new shape is basically a new outfit and now we’re gonna party in it. Heh. My sound is nothing like his but I really dig the work of Hudson Mohawke, and here I am going for something similar but completely unvarnished - whereas his music always sounds so glossy and glistening. Odd sounds and a rhythm that feels a little unstable, held together by tape. We’re feeling our way for now, and it feels kinda… good?
- 04 Ecstatic
- Building on that, we’re feeling like we know what we’re doing, we understand what’s happened, and we’re pretty dang happy about it. I feel like this is a nice inversion of witch-house. Hope Witch. Occult optimism.
- 5 Lull
- It’s going to sound odd but this track was really inspired by Mogwai and Sigur Ros. Now, I don’t play any instruments and I’m just one guy so I attempted to capture certain elements of what it is about their music that really speaks to me via my own inventory of sounds. Slowed pace, meditative repetition, and gradual growth into something - I hope - that’s quite uplifting by the end.
- Part of me was just like How the hell do I END this thing. A series of 10 EPs in full, plus some little sidequests, released over 2 years, needs something special to end on. That’s partly why I leant towards those bands above, they make everything feel epic and that’s what I needed for this. I have to say I’m pretty happy that I believe I stuck the landing.
