  1. RosenkrantzGM IT IS THE 41ST MILLENNIUM...
  2. RosenkrantzGM The House Guard's operations have gone mostly to plan. However, a failure of launch has separated a portion of the Vanguard significantly off-course, and now Sergeant Biggs and the men under his command must hold out and survive, whilst collecting as many able bodied men until further orders.
  3. RosenkrantzGM Presently, this brings them to the task of taking a Comms Station. The squad has been brought to a vantage point - an elevated peak overlooking the position. A group of mutants is just now arriving to the station, with prisoners in tow. Significantly out numbered, and quite likely outgunned, Sergeant Biggs must mount an assault. But the Consequence has now cleared operations, giving Biggs
  4. RosenkrantzGM a potential equalizer on the ground...
  5. Joe_Biggs is currently kneeling, keeping a low profile as he looks out over his new vantage point. "Of course I don't have any magnoculars when I feckin' need 'em."
  6. RosenkrantzGM Little Joe mouths off, "Ya piss off QM, sahge?"
  7. Karl checks up on the wounded Anders.
  8. Joe_Biggs "Knowing my luck I probably plowed the QM's daughter." He sniffs, before looking at the locals. "Anything you can tell me while we have this comms bunker in sight?"
  9. Emil stands near by to Karl.
  10. Emil "Any improvement in Anders Karl?"
  11. Karl shoots a cold stare forwards Emil's direction.
  12. Karl "No."
  13. RosenkrantzGM "Yeah, I do have something I can say. We don't have enough men!"
  14. RosenkrantzGM The local's comrades nod at this.
  15. Emil kicks the dirt a bit, "Is there anything I can do to help you then?" Emil ask Karl, his eyes looking away from Karls cold stare.
  16. Joe_Biggs "Well, if you have any bright ideas to alleviate that, I'd be glad ta hear them." He motions for Little Joe to let him use the vox-pack. "You wouldn't have a map or coordinates for the bunker, would ya?" He asks the locals before using the vox-pack.
  17. Karl "Get me a Medical Bay and whiskey."
  18. RosenkrantzGM He nods to one of his comrades, who produces a badly burnt chart-fold.
  19. RosenkrantzGM "It's all we have," he says handing over the remnants of what once described the geographical location with detail.
  20. Emil "I'll see what I can do then." Emil says to Karl as he backs away to check in with Biggs.
  21. Joe_Biggs nods to the PDF, "better than nothin'."
  22. KrumVergian "I think we can take em." he says quietly to Cutter
  23. RosenkrantzGM "The old fashioned way it is, sahge" Little Joe comments, looking at the state of the charts.
  24. Joe_Biggs "Afraid so. Can't call in CAS without coordinates, unless we want our asses lit up."
  25. Joe_Biggs "Would those prisoners be willing to fight once we free them?"
  26. RosenkrantzGM "Look like medicae personnel to me," he says, shaking his head.
  27. Joe_Biggs "Do they not teach your medic's how to fight?" He shakes his head. "Well lead us down, I'm sure you know the way of least resistance, perhaps a blindspot as well?" He stands away from the edge and checks his shotgun over.
  28. RosenkrantzGM "The patrols will be leaving out in half hour. Garrison is almost emptied on the outer positions..." he sighs, "including the prisoner pens. They leave those guarded with the more... rabbid types. But they're few."
  29. Joe_Biggs "Get us down there and we'll wait for their patrols to feck off. Once they're far enough we'll get to work."
  30. RosenkrantzGM He points to the side opposite to where you scaled up. With a downward motion of his finger, he whistles from a high pitch to low, in one continuous range.
  31. RosenkrantzGM Little Joe sighs.
  32. Joe_Biggs chuckles. "C'mon Little Joe, this is a walk in the park in comparison to the Lord Protector's monthly 'Games.'"
  33. Joe_Biggs signals for the squad to move out.
  34. Karl looks at Anders and thinks out loud "What are we going to do with you?".
  35. Karl is concerned about the losses so far.
  36. Emil goes back over to Karl, "I will keep carrying him, that what we are going to have to do."
  37. RosenkrantzGM "Leave 'im" Cutter says nonchalantly, as he passes Silverfinger by.
  38. RosenkrantzGM The squad advances, reaching the ridge. Noticing no movement, they rapel down.
  39. RosenkrantzGM You find yourselves in a path that cuts through the mountain. Effectively, a canyon, one only as wide as two Leman Russ ranks riding abreast.
  40. Joe_Biggs +Let's keep this quiet, boys.+
  41. Karl +Copy.+
  42. Emil +Copy.+
  43. RosenkrantzGM Just up ahead, you see what appears to have been a checkpoint once. A ruined bolter position, with chest-high shielding around it. It's appearance is almost that of a macrocannon, with the barrel sticking out of a port form its fixed position.
  44. RosenkrantzGM Behind it, a ferrocrete structure with shattered glass, and a charred facade.
  45. Joe_Biggs +Give it a look Cutter.+
  46. RosenkrantzGM He clicks his commbead, and moves up... wielding his boarding axe.
  47. Karl equips his las gun and moves with the Sarge.
  48. RosenkrantzGM On the last few yards of his advance, Cutter picks up his pace to a full trot.
  49. RosenkrantzGM He holds his position just before walking around the shielding, and sighs deep.
  50. RosenkrantzGM He then turns the corner, and in a split second, you hear and see the line of lasfire from behind the metalic shielding, and a grunt with a simultaneous scream.
  51. RosenkrantzGM +Friendly down.+
  52. RosenkrantzGM Cutter's voice betrays no emotion.
  53. Joe_Biggs sighs. "How do these people make it into the HG." He hustles up to the position.
  54. Karl "The amount of stupid is.... I have no words."
  55. Emil follow behind Joe
  56. RosenkrantzGM Cutter comes out into the open. His axe gored.
  57. Karl "Where's the injured?"
  58. Joe_Biggs "Cutter you nail-brain, we're tryan' to find allies not gore them." He looks the man over. "He dead?"
  59. RosenkrantzGM He shakes his head.
  60. RosenkrantzGM And then, the scream.
  61. Joe_Biggs motions for Karl to look at the guy.
  62. RosenkrantzGM The man... no, the boy, on the ground has a deep cut on his right pectoral.
  63. RosenkrantzGM The blood seeping into his fatigues.
  64. Karl brings his Medicae kit and starts patching his the pectoral.
  65. Karl cleans the wound and snitches the damage afterwards. He uses a combination of the synth-skin and snitch to hold the wound closed.
  66. RosenkrantzGM All in all, the flak armor, though worn damaged, did manage to do its job. The wound isn't as deep as it otherwise could have been, and so Silverfinger's treatment is enough to fully patch the trooper up.
  67. RosenkrantzGM He is, however... unruly.
  68. Karl "You'll live."
  69. RosenkrantzGM "Do I /look/ like one of those monsters?!" he says, standing up, and pushing Karl to one side.
  70. Joe_Biggs "No, kid, you don't look like some feckin' mutant, and Cutter here is real sorry about givin' ya a cut. But scar's build character! Now's not the time for you to get even. For now I need you to fall in line so we can do this thing. Ya understand me?"
  71. RosenkrantzGM "Kiss ma sweaty BALLS ya FAT FUCK"
  72. RosenkrantzGM [redacted]
  73. RosenkrantzGM He rubs his chest around the stiching, and picks up his lasgun.
  74. RosenkrantzGM "I'm following them in. Captured my friends... killed the rest. They were looking for medics."
  75. Karl waves hello.
  76. Joe_Biggs "We'll get them back, and kill 'em all in the process. Stick with your fellow Chidran's for now." He then motions for the PDF to continue to lead them, after a quick look through the checkpoint.
  77. RosenkrantzGM Inside the structure, there is appears to be an armory. It is sealed shut, with thick metal plating. Charred streaks, and cuts are left as evidence of previous attempts to open it.
  78. Karl attempts to open the door with toolkit.
  79. RosenkrantzGM The armory's security systems respond to the combitool's commands, and gears turn, slowly opening the access door.
  80. RosenkrantzGM The damage of previous brutish attempts to open it, however, means that it comes to a halt half way into this process.
  81. Joe_Biggs attempts to slide into the armory.
  82. RosenkrantzGM It's not a possible fit, with all your gear. But a less geared up man, could certainly squeeze his way in.
  83. Joe_Biggs starts taking his gear off until he can fit inside. "Watch over my stuff, Little Joe."
  84. RosenkrantzGM "Aye, sahge," he nods.
  85. Emil stands guard.
  86. Karl stands guard as well.
  87. RosenkrantzGM The first thing that catches the Sergeant's attention... a missile launcher, with Hunter-Killer missiles.
  88. Joe_Biggs "Well well well, who is this pretty little thing." Biggs rubs his hands before overlooking the weapon.
  89. Karl head into the armory and takes off his equipment. He says "What did you find?" to the Sarge.
  90. RosenkrantzGM One Launcher. Two missiles. It'll be a heavy haul, you figure.
  91. Karl finds autopistol and 2 clips of ammo
  92. Joe_Biggs "Little Joe, we're in business!"
  93. RosenkrantzGM "Watcha got, sahge?"
  94. Karl "heads out the gap and says "Emil, get in there."
  95. Emil puts down Anders gently and takes his gear off and makes his way into the armory.
  96. Karl as soon as Emil gets out, Karl leaves the armory.
  97. Emil after entering,he looks around and finds a Plasma gun and a flask for it, "Well well, got a Plasma Gun hear Sarge."
  98. Joe_Biggs "For PDF they got some nice toys."
  99. Joe_Biggs finds a syringe of detox and hands it over to Karl. "Some drugs for ya doc."
  100. Karl "Here's something for ya, Sarge" He hands Biggs a loud-hailer
  101. Emil while looking around he also finds a multi compass, "Hey Sarge got something for you." he walks up to Joe and hands him the compass.
  102. Joe_Biggs "It's like Rosenkrantz Eve when I was a rating."
  103. Karl "Indeed." He looks at his new Injector.
  104. RosenkrantzGM +Enemy patrol. A dozen at least.+ Cutter says cooly.
  105. Emil makes his way out of the armory
  106. Karl heads out of the structure as well.
  107. Joe_Biggs "Emil, stash our wounded Anders here, we'll close the door and continue on." +Enemy patrol? Are they coming close? That kid you provoked must've brought them by.+
  108. Emil "Understood, Karl Help me with getting Anders in to the armory."
  109. RosenkrantzGM +Kid's shittin' himself here with me, Sarge. They don't know we're here yet.+
  110. Karl "Alright, let's get him."
  111. Emil picks up Anders with the help of Karl and get him into the armory and finds a good place to set him down.
  112. Global [Utsuho] who can help me find a specific sound effect
  113. Global [Utsuho] basically the sound of a kickball/rubber ball impacting on your face or skin. You know what it is in your head.
  114. Joe_Biggs +Set up a ambush, you know the drill lads.+ "Follow our lead," he orders the Chidrans.
  115. RosenkrantzGM "We can let them /pass/!" the new Chidran hisses, slightly panicked.
  116. Joe_Biggs "Got something you're not telling us, kid?"
  117. Joe_Biggs sets himself up near the window.
  118. RosenkrantzGM "You think us having a skirmish here won't alert the patrols that are prowling about?"
  119. RosenkrantzGM "Yer not in charge, boy." Cutter retorts.
  120. RosenkrantzGM The already-existing animosity between the two palpably grows with that comment.
  121. Emil exit the armory, he grabs his gear and set up near Biggs.
  122. Joe_Biggs "You make a point, but here's how I see it. We slam jam them here, then go around, their patrols find dead mutants while we assault their base. Either way we're gonna be making a lot of noise soon."
  123. RosenkrantzGM "Ya heard 'im. Fall in line." Cutter says to reinforce his earlier point.
  124. RosenkrantzGM The patrol closes in.
  125. RosenkrantzGM They're in what may pass as a formation, at the rear of which paces a tall, hooded figure.
  126. Joe_Biggs +Is that the same asshole...+
  127. Karl +Sarge, orders?+
  128. Joe_Biggs +Nail him first, boys.+
  129. Emil +Understood.+
  130. Emil "Sir we could use the plasma flask to take them out, but it is risky and its the only one we have."
  131. Joe_Biggs looks at Emil as if he himself had become a mutant.
  132. Emil "Just a suggestion sir."
  133. Joe_Biggs "Shut ya yap, and get ready."
  134. Karl aims with a lasgun.
  135. Emil sets up with his hotshot lasgun and aims.
  136. RosenkrantzGM As they close in, you can hear the grunts, growls, and slobbering groans of the mutants coming forth.
  137. RosenkrantzGM But you also hear what sounds like a low, steady hum.
  138. RosenkrantzGM +Transport+
  139. RosenkrantzGM Sure enough, just behind the Hooded figure, a vehicle rolls through, at a slow steady pace.
  140. Joe_Biggs +Emperor damn me. What's it look like? Armaments?+
  141. Karl +Sarge, there is a fuel tank on the back of that vehicle.+
  142. Joe_Biggs +And...?+
  143. Karl +There's also, a... mounted flamer.+
  144. Joe_Biggs +Right. Emil hit the tank, the rest of you hit the hooded bastard.+
  145. Emil +Understood sir.+ He then takes aim at the tank on the vehicle. +Ready to fire on your command.+
  146. RosenkrantzGM Slowly, they close...
  147. RosenkrantzGM The first line of them now nearly at your position.
  148. Emil opens fire with his hotshot lasgun on the tank, two of his shot his, causing the tank to explode in a ball of flame.
  149. Karl fires into the horde of mutants with his lasgun, killing three of them.
  150. Joe_Biggs squeezes the trigger of his shotgun and lands all three shots on the hooded figure, flooring the man. He then swings his shotgun to the crowd of disoriented mutants and gibs one's leg, killing it instantly.
  151. RosenkrantzGM With the shock of your attack, baser instincts take over, and the horde makes for a charge straight into the checkpoint structure.
  152. RosenkrantzGM The mutants are funneled in by the only door they can rush through, finding Karl as their first target.
  153. RosenkrantzGM They clumsily strike the medic.
  154. Karl draws his laspistol and overcharges his shot, killing one of them.
  155. RosenkrantzGM With the shock of your attack, baser instincts take over, and the horde makes for a charge straight into the checkpoint structure.
  156. RosenkrantzGM The mutants are funneled in by the only door they can rush through, finding Karl as their first target.
  157. RosenkrantzGM They clumsily strike the medic.
  158. Karl draws his laspistol and overcharges his shot, killing one of them.
  159. Emil pulls out his mono knife and charges in stabbing one of the mutants in the right arm.
  160. Joe_Biggs seeing the mutants rush in, Joe drops his shotgun and unsheathes his chainsword, he squeezes the throttle and revs that sucker through a mutant, killing the thing with one stroke.
  161. RosenkrantzGM The momentum of their charge now halted at the entrance, the formation falters.
  162. RosenkrantzGM ...and breaks.
  163. Karl fires at one of the fleeing mutants and kills one.
  164. Emil quickly switches to his hotshot lasgun and opens fire on the remaining two mutants, killing both of them.
  165. Joe_Biggs picks his shotgun back up while the mutants flee, aims and bags another mutant kill.
  166. RosenkrantzGM The formation now destroyed, all that is left outside are the burning remains of the flamer vehicle, and the bodies of the mutants killed during the ambush.
  167. RosenkrantzGM Through the thick smoke, you spy the shrouded figure making an escape, with some distance to his advantage.
  168. Karl fires at the fleeing hooded figure and misses.
  169. Emil seeing karl fire into the smoke, he opens fire as well trying to hit what Karl was shooting at.
  170. RosenkrantzGM The patrol leader falls to the ground.
  171. Emil moves forward to confirm the kill, his weapon aimed at the fallen figure.
  172. Joe_Biggs "Get ready to move, you mooks!"
  173. RosenkrantzGM There is no movement from Emil's target.
  174. Joe_Biggs "Karl make sure to lock the armory door.
  175. Karl "On it."
  176. Emil inspects the fallen figure before he fires 3 shots into the back of the mutant's head to make sure he is dead, and then searches the figure for anything important on him.
  177. RosenkrantzGM On the target, there is a grided map with AA positions, and patrol patterns. The Comms Station is circled as a central hub. The locations of other groups are marked. A mysterious device is locked aroung his wrist, and he wears a circlet around his head. Finally, a flare gun is strapped to his side.
  178. Emil +Sir I got something over here, got a map, a flare gun, and some device around his wrist.+
  179. Joe_Biggs +Wait right there. I'm coming over.+ Biggs humps it over to Emil.
  180. Emil +Copy that.+
  181. Joe_Biggs Once there Biggs receives the goodies collected from Emil's target. "Hooo hooo hooooooooo, pay dirt boys."
  182. Emil "What do you make of the device on his wrist sir?"
  183. Joe_Biggs +Karl, get over here.+
  184. Karl +Understood, sir.+
  185. Karl makes his way to Biggs.
  186. Karl "What's the problem, Sarge?"
  187. Joe_Biggs points at the mutants wrist. "Any idea what that is on the things wrist?"
  188. Karl scratches his head and says "I have no idea what this is."
  189. Joe_Biggs "Well then, trophy time." Biggs revs up his chainsword and cuts the mutants hand off, below the wrist, to get take off the band and pocket it, along with the circlet.
  190. Emil holds on the to flare for the time being,
  191. Karl looks at his autopistol. He says "Hey, Sarge. you might like this." He holds out the autopistol and the two clips of ammo.
  192. RosenkrantzGM Promethium, smoke, blood. The smell alone would have attracted attention to your position, even without the cacophany of the ambush. And visually, there is more than enough to capture someone's attention.
  193. Joe_Biggs "I'm just gettin' all tha gifts today ain't I?" He takes the proffered pistol and holsters it.
  194. Joe_Biggs He rejoins the rest of his squad, "Little Joe! Patch me in to House Command. Time to talk and walk."
  195. RosenkrantzGM "Ya got it, sahge."
  196. Emil follows Biggs while reloading his hotshot lasgun.
  197. RosenkrantzGM Little Joe nods, and your commbead crackles.
  198. Karl kicks the mutant body then runs behind Emil.
  199. RosenkrantzGM +Come in, Sergeant Biggs+
  200. Joe_Biggs +This is Biggs, Command. Think I just found a dawn mine. We killed what appears to be one of the enemies officers and the thing has a map of AA positions and patrol patterns. Over.+
  201. RosenkrantzGM A pause, typical of communications in the middle of clogged operations of this magnitude follows, before the reply.
  202. RosenkrantzGM +Sergeant Biggs, you are in posession of high priority intelligence. Several AA positions could not be accounted for in initial intel reports. Low-pass flights and landings in your A.O. are considered extremely risky until these are accounted for and taken out.+
  203. Joe_Biggs using the multi compass for reference, Biggs reads out the coordinates from the map to the comms officer.
  204. RosenkrantzGM +We are patching you through with Flight Commander Kalett.+
  205. RosenkrantzGM +Sergeant Biggs+ the new voice identifies the NCO.
  206. RosenkrantzGM +The boys and I owe you. I will dedicate my target-of-opportunity flight time to your squad's support.+
  207. Joe_Biggs +Much appreciated, sir. We're gonna need it for our upcoming assault.+
  208. Joe_Biggs +I'll need you to hammer a comms station at the coordinates, Gregory Jason Ten Ten Six, be wary of a couple of pens on the side, they contain friendly POW's.+
  209. RosenkrantzGM +Gregory. Jason. Ten. Ten. Six.+ the reply comes.
  210. RosenkrantzGM +Keep your heads down in your advance, Sergeant. We'll be coming in hot, with a serious payload.+
  211. Joe_Biggs +Affirmative.+
