- Each racer has access to the path bonus items. These are two dread scrolls, two ebon wings, two dragon herbs, and two boots.
- Deployment of an undrafted unit is illegal unless the unit is force-deployed.
- Undrafted units may pair up with undrafted/non-free units, trade, access convoy, enter enemy phase combat without counterattacking, pick up and set obstructions, use vulneraries concoctions and elixirs, and talk without penalty.
- No penalties are imposed for actions taken by undrafted units while they are a green or red unit.
- Drafting a male unit with a potential child also drafts the child into your roster. All players must complete at least one paralogue that recruits a paralogue unit, and that paralogue unit must be in party upon completion of the paralogue.
- Kana and Shigure are not given for free, and are instead draftable. There is a single copy of Kana to draft, and the racer who drafts Kana may earn either a male or female Kana, no matter the icon used in the draft board.
- Skip action setting must be off. The player is not allowed to skip enemy or other phases with the start button or skip animations, including healing animations, with the b button. - There are no penalties suffered for skipping actions or dialogue in the prologue chapter. (the one where Takumi helps you dual strike a fighter)
- Players may skip forced combat animations (such as against Anankos) without penalty
- Special items found in glowing tiles or from my castle events may not be used. They may be discarded or sold for 0 gold.
- Drafting:
- This draft is for three or four players. On the day of the draft, the picking order will be determined randomly.
- Players pick characters from the pool of draftable units in “snake order” 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1 (in the case of a 4-player draft) until such a time where all players unanimously decide to stop or all players have an equal number of characters and there are fewer available characters than there are players.
- Shigure and Kana are draftable. Only the players who drafted Shigure and the player who drafted Kana may use them to satisfy the paralogue rule (gameplay 10)
- Setup:
- Players may use a vanilla or special edition ROM from any region.
- All players must make an avatar character. Players may make whatever choices they wish during the creation of their avatar, including their name, gender, appearance, birth date, asset, and flaw. Birth date must not match the date on the player’s system clock (usually the date of the race)
- Players must record their time using an external timer. The timer starts when the player chooses “yes” on the “save your progress” prompt to start a new game. The player must select “yes” on this prompt. The timer can end any time after Anankos-Final (the solo eyeball) has zero displayed hp on the same game file.
- The timer will not pause unless the player is taking a break or (in a relay) the save file is being transferred between players.
- Once the timer has started, it will never revert to a previous time under and circumstance, unless all players agree to restart the race from scratch
- Any accrued penalties (as described above) are added to the final time only, and are not added to the timer as the race is in progress.
- Recommended timers include LiveSplit or AKDylie’s race coordinator.
- Patti rule: if a player wishes to completely restart their run, they must still play normal classic mode and must still make an avatar, though they are allowed to make new choices for their avatar’s parameters. The timer will continue to run during the entire process. That player can use the new save game file in place of the old one should they desire.
- Players may play on either emulators or hardware.
- For emulators: functions such as save states and speedup are disallowed. Each keyboard or mouse input should correspond to exactly one emulator input. The emulator should run at no more than 100% speed throughout the run.
- It is supremely recommended to unbind all hotkeys related to the banned functions and to remove savestates from folders where they may be conveniently loaded.
- For hardware users: either a capture card or a camera pointed at the 3ds’ screen must be used to capture the gameplay.
- It is supremely recommended that the 3ds be fully charged and that charging equipment be on hand before beginning the race.
- For relays: all racers should have practice correctly transferring save files between one another before the race day. Emulator savestate functions are allowed for the sole purpose of transferring a save file from one racer to another.
- Administration:
- Breaks: Players may elect to take a break from the game at any time after the start. If they do so, their timer does not run, and their emulator must be paused OR their game must be in a state where it cannot advance on its own (such as the prep screen). It is recommended, though not required, that the players agree upon a maximum break time. The recommended maximum break time is 20 minutes. If a player is out of break time, their timer will continue to run regardless of whether or not they are running the game.
- DNF: Players should communicate ahead of time how long they want to stream and how late they can expect the event to go. You enforce this with a DNF (did not finish) time. If a player is still playing the game when their timer has reached the agreed upon DNF time, they are encouraged to honourably submit DNF as their time instead of continuing to play. Players should communicate what an appropriate time would be.
- Restarting the race: If all players agree to restart the race, they can all delete their current game files and return to the main menu. Everyone’s timers reset to zero, break timers reset to their original values, and the race will restart with each player using the same team as they had for the previous attempts. Any progress players made on the old files cannot count towards the final time submission of the new race. This is the only circumstance in which the timer can revert to a previous time.
- Pausing the timer: Players may pause the timer while hard resetting the game. The timer may be paused any time after the game has been reset (ie you have left the gameplay screen and are now reloading the game) and must be resumed before making any input in the game (usually skipping the opening cutscene or pressing start to access the main menu.
- Stream setup: Anyone intending to stream the game (including and up to any number of other player perspectives) should ensure that their emulator window can run at 100% speed at all times during the broadcast, or that their gameplay is visible.
- Relays: In a relay race, teams of players may decide to transfer a save file to another racer. As the players transfer save files, the timer may be paused any time after the last input is made in the original racer’s game. The timer must be resumed before the racer receiving the save file makes any inputs in the game
- Exception: the player receiving the save file is allowed, and in fact encouraged, to make some exploratory inputs in the received save file in order to verify that they received the correct save and it is playable. The timer does not need to be resumed during this process, but after ensuring that the save file is correct, the player must re-load the save and then resume the timer from a proper point.
- The player receiving the save may choose to back out to the main menu and resume the timer from the title screen. They must load the save file that the prior player was using.
