  1. “are you sure?” says Henrik, giving you a confused look
  2. “yes”
  3. “really?”
  4. “yes”
  5. “really really?”
  6. “we can’t just keep sleeping on the guild’s benches”
  7. “but we buy a ton of beer first”
  8. “That just makes it sadder! We used to be the Wehrmacht, the pride of Germany. Now we sleep on tavern benches and hope we don’t get thrown out. We need to find proper housing before the guild gets sick of us”
  9. “UUUUUGH, but then we will need to actually work regularly to pay for it”
  10. “we marched all the way to Russia, I’m sure you can handle working for a living”
  11. “I didn’t get run over by a fucking BT-7 to go back to worrying about how I’m making it through the night”
  12. “you didn’t actually experience it though”
  13. “A FUCKING BT-7 ANON THERE IS NOTHING GAYER TO GET KILLED BY”
  14. “At least you got killed by the enemy”
  15. >Hans chooses this moment to walk over to the table carrying a plate with what seems to a roasted bird, like a chicken. But do chickens exist in this world? If they do, are they called chickens?
  16. >he slams the plate onto the table and takes his seat, immediately commencing his assault on the bird.
  17. “sho wrhat are you guysh talkin about?” he says through a mouthful of unidentified bird
  18. >Henrik grunts
  19. “Anon here thinks that we need to find somewhere better to sleep”
  20. >you punch him in the stahlhelm, unfortunately the grey helmet didn’t care how stupid Henrik is being and protected its master anyway. Doubly unfortunate is the fact that you just punched a steel helmet braced against a thick skull.
  21. “Aaaagh! Is your head made of lead or something? Anyway, yes we need proper housing to use as a base”
  22. >hans considers this for a moment, his mouth still full.
  23. “I guesh itsh better than schleeping in the tank”
  24. >you turn to Henrik and whisper
  25. “why didn’t we think of the tank?”
  26. “Because Hans hid it somewhere and doesn’t trust me near the 88mm since we blew over the market.”
  27. >hans either doesn’t notice or ignores your exchange and continues
  28. “and it would be better for shtoring my booksh”
  29. “what books?”
  30. >he finally swallows his mouthful, thankfully rendering his speech understandable
  31. “for my magic, what do you think I’ve been doing in between chapters?”
  32. >suddenly Alice yells over from the counter
  33. “OI, don’t you go breaking the fourth wall! It’s really expensive to fix!”
  34. “Shut up Alice, come back when you’re a main character!” retorts Hans
  35. “I AM a main character! I’m the best girl!”
  36. “You’re the only girl!”
  37. >you’re not really sure what they’re talking about, but it’s probably less important than matter at hand. You stand up and drag Hans by the collar towards the door
  38. “let’s go look for a place and stop annoying Alice”
  39. >hans continues to exchange banter with Alice until the door closes behind you
  40. “FUCKING THEODORE MATHERS HAS MORE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT THAN YOU- hey I was talking to her”
  41. “first where is the tank?”
  42. “oh, this farmer said I could store it in this big barn he has but never uses, I guess he’s too old or something”
  43. “hold on, what did you say?”
  44. “I said he’s probably too old to be doing farm work anymore, but-“
  45. “no, the first thing”
  46. “he said I can use his barn?”
  47. “so we could have been using this barn this whole time?”
  48. “probably”
  49. “Surely even you have limits to stupidity, where’s this barn of yours?”
  50. >Hans leads the way down the town’s streets heading towards the outskirts, to were the cobblestones gave way to simple dirt roads. You had never paid attention the the landscape of this world before but when faced with the seemingly endless expanse of grassy fields and picturesque hills, it’s hard not to see the beauty in such a place. Your thoughts are rudely interrupted by your face being forcibly acquainted with the back of Hans’ stahlhelm.
  51. “give some warning before you stop so suddenly!” you exclaim, clutching what remains of your nose
  52. “nevermind that, we’re here”
  53. >you look past Hans to the structure beyond. The barn was about what you expected It to be, a large construct of wooden planks and beams and two stories tall, if you count the mezzanine level visible through the windows. Hans leads you both up to the barn’s double doors, hauling them open with some struggle. Inside is dark, lit only by the sunlight coming through the windows. A few bales of hay lay stacked around the place with the tiger resting in the middle of the dirt floor, a very imposing figure in the dark room.
  54. “this is what we have, what do you think?” hans says, spreading his arms to indicate the dull room
  55. “it’ll do… for now”
  56. “wait, you’re not gonna make us clean up, right?” he says suspiciously
  57. >these fucking work-shies should be put in a camp.
  58. “of course!” you shout.
  59. >you immediately put your squadmates to work shifting the bales of hay up to the mezzanine to be used as beds. You busy yourself with planning your new base of operations, will the walls need reinforcing? how could we get fuel for the Tiger? you should focus on just making the place liveable first.
  60. >you begin rifling through your possessions looking for… here it its. You pick up the folded red cloth, steal the ladder to the mezzanine and walk outside. The flag is hung in its new home over the door just as Hans and Henrik realise they’ve been trapped.
  61. >you let them suffer a bit longer as you admire just how A E S T H E T I C your flag is.
  62. >sometime later you are overseeing the work-shies sweep the floor of any leftover hay you hear a knock at the door.
  63. “Herro?” calls Kamikaze.
  64. “Hello!” you reply
  65. >He opens the door and motions for you to come outside. As you turn to walk away, you can already see Hans and Henrik slacking off.
  66. >you begin to design a concentration camp for two in your head.
  67. “alright Kaze, what do you want?”
  68. >he doesn’t look very happy about shortening his name.
  69. “Arice-san says that there is going to be a meeting tomorrow between Rocal faction leaders, she wanted to ret you know” he says.
  70. >Excellent, more work.
  71. >then again, if you can get some more recruits…
  72. “alright, I’ll be there”
  73. “is this prace your headquarters?” Kamikaze asks
  74. >you give Kamikaze a tour of the barn, catching hans and Henrik hiding behind the tiger to get out of sweeping. You kick them both into shape and Kamikaze lectures them about their “Shamfur dispray”.
  75. >before long the barn is in liveable condition, just in time for us to hit the haystacks and pass out.
  76. >except
  77. >you haven’t eaten anything in hours. At least In the guild you could get food easily. All we have here is some scho-ka-kola, but it should do right?
  78. >right?
  79.
