  1.
  2. Waku Motohama links her fingers together and lifts them up in an impressive stretch - one that sends pops through her shoulder and spine. "Aha, hello there, Mister Taras! Are you ready for your physical?"
  3. Jaaster Taras had walked past the desk and been standing sentinel, watching the door, waiting with trepidation, and he jumps as Waku's voice rings out. Turning about, he smiles weakly. "Ah, hey, Waku! I-I guess so!"
  4. Waku Motohama grins - a medium-level grin, one that, were it not on the Detective's face, would seem entirely innocuous. "Excellent. If you'll just follow me downstairs; the first room on our left should be free."
  5. Jaaster Taras swallows hard and nods. "O-okay! Just, uhh...just a second." He turns toward the hallway and gives two short whistles, each subtly different from the other. Several moments, later, heavy pawfalls come pounding down the hall, and Hopper and River trot out to join Jaaster. Ruffling their backs a bit, he takes a slow breath, then nods to Waku. "Ready."
  6. Waku Motohama manages not to laugh, and any unprofessional amusement is masked by her turning and heading off to the steps. She may be a bully, but she's got standards, and also maybe it's kind of cute.
  7. Waku Motohama has a clipboard in-hand when Jaaster enters - she probably picked it up from the front desk - and gives him a small nod as he takes a seat. Before she begins, her gaze falls down to his company, and then she leans in to whisper conspiratorily. "If you promise not to tell Kowa, they can get up on the bed with you. I'll make sure everything is properly, you know. Sanitized after." Waku finishes this with a wink.
  8. Jaaster Taras had slowly pulled himself up onto the bed, and the hounds had gathered at the foot, but upon Waku's whisper, Jaaster's face breaks into a grin, and he pats the bed rapidly. Immediately, the hounds scramble up and settle in on either side of him. Looking back at Waku, he nods gratefully. "They won't get in the way, I promise."
  9. Waku Motohama manages to refrain from cooing over the pair, but it's clear that it's a temptation. "I'm sure they won't! If all my patients were as well behaved as you two, I'd never have a hard day." Waku begins to note something down with her pencil. "How've you been doing lately, Mister Taras?"
  10. Jaaster Taras starts to shrug his shoulders, but pauses, apparently thinking better of the motion. "Ahh, okay, mostly. 'Til recently, that is. Got hurt fighting at a tavern." His eyes widen as he realizes how that sounds. "I mean, I was supposed to be fighting! Not, like, in a brawl or anything." He trails off for a moment, like he's trying to remember something. "Got hit really hard in the ribs a bunch, and took a few long cuts, too." He pulls his shirt up to show extensive bruising>
  11. Jaaster Taras || all over his midsection, as well as a couple bandaged areas that appear to have been applied by an amateur. "Apparently, I got hit on the back of the head, too? I was, uhh, kind of...drunk. I think. I don't remember much of that night." He falls silent for a few moments before his eyes widen once more. "Oh! And I, um...I fell out a window yesterday. Here. Kinda bothered my ribs again." He stopped making eye contact a while ago, and he's fascinated with what's going on in the corner.
  12. Waku Motohama makes the appropriate noises at the right conversational points, going 'mm', 'ah', 'yes', and 'I see' to prompt Jaaster to continue talking about how much he brutally abuses his body on a routine basis. She makes a few more notes, leaning in to inspect the splotches of purple and blue streaked over his torso. "I see," she says mildly once he's finished, her gaze flicking up to his face. "Was it a first floor window? Second floor? Third?"
  13. Jaaster Taras: "The, uh, s-second floor..."
  14. Waku Motohama: Mhmm, mhmm. And what were you doing when you fell out of the window?
  15. Waku Motohama looks back down at her clipboard. Scribble-scribble.
  16. Jaaster Taras looks down. "Well, Ayla was learning some wrestling from Amba and Khai out in the front yard, and I was curious, so I just watched for a bit. Then more people started showing up, so I started wondering if there was an event I didn't know about. I think I'd started leaning against the window some point before that? Anyway, I started trying to look around the corner of the window - you know, to see if there was a sign up? - and then, the, uhh...the window popped out of the frame, and I...fell.
  17. Waku Motohama: Right, of course. Can I presume you have not seen anyone about said window-incident?
  18. Jaaster Taras: "That's, uhh...that's right. I mean, I didn't get cut up or anything, and it didn't hurt a lot more after, sooo...I figured it could keep 'til I talked to you?"
  19. Waku Motohama doesn't look up. "You know, one of the perks of working here is supposed to be the very good medical benefits. But I suppose I should just be glad you're seeing /someone/ about it, and before I take a look, I'd like to politely remind you that - while you may be an Ishgardian Superjump Man - falling out of a second story window is generally considered to be a big deal. Do you notice any more pain when you try to breathe deeply?"
  20. Waku Motohama doesn't look up. "You know, one of the perks of working here is supposed to be the very good medical benefits. 21. Maintenance will be performed on all Worlds, from Feb. 17, 2020 9:00 p.m. to Feb. 18, 2020 2:00 a.m. (PST).
  22. Please log out before the maintenance begins.
  23. See the News section for more details.
  24. Jaaster Taras looks mildly guilty. "Some if I forget to be careful. Like, when it's really fast, you know?" He looks down at Hopper and occupies his attention with some ear scritches. "And...I know. I talked to the night staff after I got back from the tavern that night, and they gave me some medicine. It was helping a lot, so I...you know. Thought it could wait. Sorry."
  25. Waku Motohama: Well, I'm glad you did talk to someone about the tavern incident and have been taking medicine for that. Is it alright if I take off your bandages to fully observe the injuries and redo them?
  26. Jaaster Taras nods and removes his shirt to better facilitate the examination.
  27. Waku Motohama sets the clip-board beside Jaaster and steps forward. It's unclear whether she simply pities him or has determined he's been a good enough boy overall to keep his dog privledges, but either way, she allows him to remain sitting up and cuddling Hopper as she reaches out to gingerly undo the inexpertly applied bandages. Once his chest is fully bare, she studies the area, prodding him in a few places before asking, "When I touch there, does it hurt more?"
  28. Jaaster Taras winces a few times at the prodding, but he gestures to his left side. "Mm, there, on the left. I think that's where the flat of the sword got me." He pauses, nose wrinkling as he casts about in his memory. "The elbow, too, I'm pretty sure?"
  29. Waku Motohama: Hm, alright. Is it alright if I run a few aether-based tests? I want to make sure nothing's broken.
  30. Jaaster Taras nods once more. "Uh, sure, go ahead."
  31. Waku Motohama steps away briefly, moving over to the cabinet and rifling through it. After retrieving a fresh set of bandages (likely for afterwards) and her grimoire, Waku returns, holding the book open in one hand and placing her palm about a fulm away from Jaaster's left side. There's a soft glow from the book's enchanted ink, but otherwise the procedure is fairly mundane, Waku's aether tickling over his torso - and then his elbow - as she more deeply assesses the damage.
  32. Waku Motohama holds the position for a few moments before nodding to herself, snapping the book shut and exchanging it for the bandages. "No breaks or fractures; just an impressive amount of bruising. I'll apply a topical salve to help it heal a little faster and freshen up your bandages. Oh - when exactly was that tavern brawl, again?"
  33. Jaaster Taras nods at the analysis. "Uh, it was a few nights ago. Oh, not a brawl, either. It was, um...not a tournament, but, uhh...hm." He scratches behind his ear, not exactly sure how to describe the bloodsport he remembers only in patchwork.
  34. Waku Motohama: ...I'll mark it as a 'pre-arranged altercation'.
  35. Jaaster Taras brings his hand up to point and nod, but winces at the sudden motion and retracts his arm. "Ow. Yeah, that."
  36. Waku Motohama applies an ointment to the bruised areas of Jaaster's skin. While she makes an honest attempt to be particularly delicate with his left side, its almost certain to hurt, but at the very least she's quick about it and has him bandaged up with the efficiency of a true EMT. "I'll check to see if I can give you any more painkillers for all that. Now... after the hit to your head, have you been feeling dizzy at all lately? Getting headaches? Any sensitivity to light or noise?"
  37. Jaaster Taras frowns. "Um, now that you mention it, I have had a little trouble with my balance lately, yeah. Little dizziness, little headaches now and again." He looks up at Waku suddenly, realization and concern writ plainly on his face. "...oh. I didn't...ohhh."
  38. Waku Motohama says in a cheerful sing-song, "Someone has a concussion! Okay, so your reported symptoms sound mild, so you'll likely make a full recovery, but you /have/ to rest properly. Injuries to the head meat are no joke, got it? Drink plenty of water, get lots of sleep, take it easy on the exercise, and avoid tasks that require complex thinking. ...Do you think you can manage any of that?"
  39. Jaaster Taras frowns again, looking unhappy at having his realization confirmed. He nods, though, with each instruction. "Y-yeah, I can do that." After a moment, his eyes take on a hopeful glint. "Sooo...I shouldn't do any paperwork, then? 'Cause I'm recovering?"
  40. Waku Motohama: Nope, no paperwork. I'll even write you a doctor's note.
  41. Jaaster Taras nods somberly as he looks down at River. He's obviously trying to be smooth about this, but he can't help a bit of a grin slipping through.
  42.
  43. Waku Motohama is totally wise to his game, but honestly, she doesn't seem to be judging him for it. "See? Coming in for check-ups has its perks. Now, it should just get better on its on, but if the headaches start getting worse, you start experiencing periods of confusion or disorientation, you notice that your speech is slurring, or you start vomitting, see someone about it immediately. Also, in about... oh, three days, I want you to come to either me or someone else on the clinic staff to touch base -
  44. Waku Motohama - and make sure you're improving. Sound fair?"
  45. Jaaster Taras: "I suppose that's fair." He doesn't seem as fretful at the prospect of another visit as he had been up to this point, but he does seem to be considering something for a moment before he speaks up again. "I was planning on evaluating the new Operatives in a couple days. If, uhh...if I don't get worse, do you think I could handle that myself?"
  46. Waku Motohama: What will the evaluation entail, exactly?
  47. Jaaster Taras: "Well, there's a brief bit of sparring, just to see what the new Operatives bring to the table in action. There'll be some questions, too. Sort of like, um...a Garlean walks in with a broken arm, and you recognize him as someone who did bad things, what do you do? That sort of thing."
  48. Waku Motohama: The question portion should be fine, but in your current condition, I think you should avoid sparring. Is there anyone you trust who can act as the sparring partner while you watch and evaluate?
  49. Jaaster Taras 's face falls, and he looks down at the floor. After a few moments, his expression shifts to one of deep consideration. "...maybe. I'll, uhh...I'll have to think about that." He looks back up at Waku and tips his head to the side in an approximation of a shrug. "I just don't want anyone else to get hurt if a new person doesn't quite have a handle on their abilities, you know?"
  50. Waku Motohama: Okay, but you've already gotten hurt in a scheduled altercation and a fight with the ground. Wouldn't it be better to have someone currently in top condition performing those tasks?
  51. Jaaster Taras nods, less in acceptance than in acknowledgement. "I see what you mean, and I'm not arguing. I just...if someone's taking my place, I have to think about who can keep themselves safe against an unknown opponent."
  52. Waku Motohama nods as well, her features softening. "That I understand. I know it can take some time to do so, but definitely be on the lookout for people you trust to act as your second-in-command. You're in a dangerous line of work; there'll definitely be times when you're not in tip-top shape, and it'll be better for everyone if you don't have to make choices like this at all." A pause. "However, may I suggest - if you're worried - calling upon the services of someone with the ability to create -
  53. Waku Motohama - barriers or aetheric shields to help moderate the evaluations?"
  54. Jaaster Taras blinks. "...huh." Clearly, that idea had never occurred to him. "I'll, uhh...yeah, I'll have to look into that!"
  55. Waku Motohama: Excellent. I think that'll help everyone stay safer and healthier. ...Now, uh, speaking of health. Let's... complete this paperwork! Unless you have any more injuries to tell me about?
  56. Waku Motohama tilts her head, giving him an amused quirk of her brows.
  57. Jaaster Taras: "Oh! Right. Um, no other injuries right now. Promise."
  58. Waku Motohama: Right, right. Okay - so, I need your age, your race, and... do you know your height?
  59. Jaaster Taras: "Mm, yeah, I'm six fulms, eight ilms. Twenty-six winters passed, and, uh, Coerthan Elezen."
  60. Waku Motohama: Good, good. I'll weigh you at the end - no need to get up right now - but what's your approximate weight?
  61. Waku Motohama nods, noting this down too. "Okay! Are you allergic to anything, as far as you're aware of?"
  62. Jaaster Taras shakes his head. "Not that I know of, no."
  63. Waku Motohama: Alright. Give me a basic description of your eating and sleeping habits, if you would. How many meals do you eat a day? What kind of variety do you have in your diet, and are they regular? How much do you sleep and when? That sort of thing.
  64. Jaaster Taras: "Well, we try to stick to three meals a day. Sometimes there's a snack after a long run, though. Umm...heavy on meat, I guess, but there's some fruits and greens, too." He shifts a little uneasily as he looks between Hopper and River. "Sleep has been kinda hit and miss, lately. You know, with injuries and late nights working. We've been working on keeping better hours, but, um...it's a process?"
  65. Waku Motohama: Makes sense, makes sense. I'm sure you've heard the spiel already, but if you need any doctor's tips regarding sleep hygiene, I'm happy to oblidge. Now... what's your medical history like? Do any close relatives have any diseases that you're aware of, or do you have any manner of chronic ailment?
  66. Jaaster Taras thinks the question over in his head. "Um, not that I know of, but...I guess I don't really know anything about my mother's family, so...there's that." He pauses, then asks, "Do you mean past injuries, too? 'Cause, uhh...I mean, it'd take a while."
  67. Waku Motohama: Heh, yeah, I figured - let's go with the major ones. What bones have you broken, and do any of those injuries still cause you pain?
  68. Jaaster Taras: "Well, I broke my leg, uhh, seven or eight cycles ago, I think it is now? It aches a little here and there, but only when there's a bad storm. Umm...I guess about eight turns ago, too, my back got pretty torn up. Mylodon attack." He turns a bit, and you can see large scars from claws criss-crossing up, down, and across his back. "I wake up sometimes, feeling like they're fresh. Just nightmares, though, not during the day or anything."
  69. Jaaster Taras || There's a low rumble from Hopper as Jaaster talks about the second incident, and Jaaster leans over and hugs the hound close for a few seconds before straightening back up.
  70. We will soon be starting maintenance on all Worlds. Please log out as soon as possible.
  71. Ink Long Dry is now playing.
  72. Waku Motohama nods briefly, noting this down. She is professional enough to not comment on the clear trauma of this event. "Mm, alright. Anything else of major note? Also, do you find yourself troubled by nightmares often?"
  73. Khaishan Iriq has logged out.
  74. Alaria Moone has logged out.
  75. Jaaster Taras: "Ahh...sometimes? That's normal, though...right?" He shakes his head. "Nothing else, though, no."
  76. Teardrops in the Rain is now playing.
  77. Waku Motohama: Traumatic injuries or events can result in... instrusive dreams. That's beyond the bounds of this physical, but it's something you might want to consult Etienne about. Stress dreams can be really disruptive to the quality of your sleep.
  78. Waku Motohama: ...Or I can give you some tips, if you want. But it's not something you just have to deal with.
  79. Jaaster Taras nods gravely, looking thoughtful once more.
  80. Jaaster Taras: "I'll keep that in mind. Thanks, Waku."
  81. Waku Motohama: Of course! That's all I need from you for now; do you have any other questions?
  82. Jaaster Taras: "I think I'm good."
  83. Waku Motohama nods, then treats him to a bright smile. "Then we're all done! You're free to go, and... hey, that wasn't that bad, was it?"
