- Traveling through the Pisces quadrant...
- The starry blackness was filled with hundreds of vessels, from large spherical capital transports to single attack pods. All of them streaked through the void of space, passing ringed planets of every color, overtaking meteors, and blasting their way toward the Juno system. At the forefront of the garrison of battleships, the Bringer of Death led the way. Vegeta wanted everyone in the entire empire to witness his victory, not to simply watch it on a viewscreen from the comfort of their posts. They had clamored for a clash; they were the ones who wanted this. And now, like it or not, they would have front row seats to the battle with the usurper.
- Aboard his vessel, Vegeta's mind was anything but idle.
- 'The one-eyed Saiyan is no doubt the brains of this operation. Yet I wonder just how he is able to control his son's power?' Vegeta was familiar with all the legends describing the uncontrolled rage of the Legendary Super Saiyan. If Broly was indeed what he claimed, it didn't make sense for him to follow orders, much less follow any pattern of civility at all. 'He should be the most ruthless killing machine in the universe, not the puppet of some low-class malcontent. Then again, perhaps he has learned control over his power and is manipulating this Paragus, rather than the other way around. No doubt I'll unravel all of this when I arrive.'
- "Milord," Oniya interrupted his thoughts, bowing. "There has been no response from Paragus or Broly as of yet. In my experience, radio silence after such a vocal reply as you made leads me to believe that your challengers are being devious. C47 assures me, however, that they are both still on Planet Juno, along with a few insignificant soldiers. According to his scanners, Paragus's strength is 8,500 units, but even more perplexing is that Broly's is only at 6,000."

- While the technicians and soldiers continued working on repairs, Vegeta and Broly both had quite the time battling one another over the surface of Alpha Juno. The one condition of all of this, which Vegeta was specifically testing, was the Legendary warrior's ability to control his own emotions during battle. If, as Oniya suspected, the Legendary Super Saiyan form provided a mental state of its own, that was something Broly would need to take utmost care with.
- Naturally, Vegeta had made a request that his scientist/captain/commander begin work on a device that didn't restrict, but merely allowed Broly to remain in control of his Legendary form. However, since she couldn't guarantee that making such a contraption was even possible, Vegeta laid things out very simply for Broly. If he were to lose control of himself, transforming into a mindless killing machine again, the prince would use whatever means necessary to stop him. Luckily, the other Saiyan was quite wary of the transformation himself. While learning to master it seemed like an incredible challenge, the thought of losing control of his free will—the very thing which he'd just recently gained—was enough of a deterrent. He agreed that the Legendary form was dangerous, but it was then Vegeta who insisted that he pursue mastery of the state, stating that no true warrior would allow himself to be controlled by his own strength.
- ...
- When the Perfect Tournament began, it was as if Vegeta hardly paid it any attention at all. Not that he wasn't aware of it, but it was so far away that sensing the details of the fighting just wasn't practical. At first he preferred to ignore it, trusting that Gohan could manage all by himself. But he periodically would focus back towards the blue planet, honing his senses in on everything, finding himself anxious.
- When Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 energy was finally released, Vegeta couldn't help but allow a prideful grin on his face—the boy had really done it! Even the thought of Cell getting humiliated like that, by a Saiyan child no less, was enough satisfaction for him. Vegeta had even tried to point the signal out to Broly, almost teasing him of another stronger Saiyan, though the brute could not yet sense energy.
- The Saiyan prince had all but written Cell's eulogy, sadistically mocking his defeat, when the unthinkable happened. Though he'd only ever barely sensed Kakarott's energy, the moment that his Saiyan rival had passed away changed everything. He couldn't imagine how Cell had actually pulled it off, but Vegeta was suddenly rage-infused as he realized that his rematch with the gentle Saiyan was now nothing but a dream. And to top it all off, Cell's energy had suddenly skyrocketed, surpassing even that of Broly's Legendary state. Despite Gohan's advantage, Vegeta was growing increasingly impatient, even to the point of powering up for no reason. But things kept worsening, his fears for his family's safety, an unshakable vision of Bulma and Trunks crying out to him for help. He would call out to them that it was going to be all right, but no sound came from his throat. He was trapped, just as helpless as them. Then, Cell would suddenly make good on all his threats to destroy the world and his family would vanish, exploding into dust before his eyes. It was vivid, perhaps only his imagination, but no less terrifying. And in his sudden desperation, Vegeta began to attempt the only thing he knew.
- Only this time, as a Super Saiyan 2.
- He had no name for his technique, as he hadn't even pulled it off yet. But somehow, this time, he knew it was going to be different. He couldn't exactly describe what exactly that difference was, only that he had a need this time like no other.
- "Damn it all!" he yelled, a sea of crackling blue lightning all around him. "This has got to work!"
- Rather than placing two fingers to his head, as Kakarott always did, he put his hands just in front of his face, positioning them as if he were about to open a curtain. That curtain, though, was the very fabric of the universe. He had to rip it open, to find a way home...there was no other way.
- He forced his aura into the sky around him, torrents of energy vibrating through the different planes of existence, until at last he could see it—the tiniest vortex. Or at least he thought he could. Regardless, it was all he needed. Then, as if he was pinching his entire body, contracting it into one long strand of cells, Vegeta focused his energy on the bio-android. With a loud and boisterous THWAAK, not at all like the gentle ZAP that occurred after Kakarott's version, the prince of Saiyans vanished into thin air.
- ...
- TCHTHIN!
- A sudden backhand smashed into Cell's face, spinning him painfully into the ground. He bit dirt, his face crushing rock as the overwhelming force of the blow caused him to eat ten feet of soil. Tensing, flaring his aura, and whirling around as quickly as he could, the monster could only gasp at what he saw.
- There, standing before him, was an ascended Saiyan, bathed in gold. Brilliant and terrible streaks of blue electricity snaked around the warrior's form, every lock of hair rigidly and angrily erect. Cell gaped, his jaw dropping in stunned, fearful silence. How could this be? It wasn't possible. Then, as the warrior spoke, it was as if the bells of hell itself were ringing, trumpeting the return of the prince.
- "Cell. So, we finally meet again."
