PERSONALITY:; Due to her tall height and face-that seems to look angry whenever she’s spacing out- she can come off as intimidating to others. When you first meet her, she’ll be very very silent to the point that you can’t even notice her in the room. But after a few conversations, she blooms and automatically becomes a chatter box. If she starts insulting you, that means you are really close friends. She’s a nice 50-50 between Ying and Yang. She has her dark moments where she can be super blunt and diss fellow members and friends with a straight face. She thinks it’s better to say things straight up rather than sugar coating or putting a filter on. There are times where she can be incredibly happy and nice especially during her meetings for “Save The Earth.” She usually gets her disses or insults from Disney movies that she loves to binge watch. Which is also where her love for nature bloomed. She’s filled with passion and she cannot wait to share her passion with the world. She’s clumsy with her words especially since she struggles with her Korean at times. So if she can’t think of the word but has a really good diss or something to say, she’ll stare at the person she wants to speak to with her lips pursed together and say it in her mind. Others may think it’s fine to be talkative and a savage with her words, she also finds it to be her weakness and insecurity. It’s because she can be a bit arrogant in certain situations and if she has too much air in her, she can say things she doesn’t mean to say. BACKGROUND:; Yu Yan has no siblings, she’s an only child and her family would be classified as middle class. She’s very close to her mother and slightly awkward with her father due to his emotionless affection (at least that’s what she thinks). She was very involved in school back in China and was one of the presidents of the environment club and also an active member of Model UN club where she mostly spoke about environment issues, nature laws, and biodiversity. Yu Yan was also involved in a lot of pageants when she was a kid due to her extended family pressuring her parents because of her visuals. Because of that, she has a few insecurities and fluctuating self esteem that lie deep and that stereotype that “pretty people don’t have problems,” seem to weigh her down since childhood and now. Her parents are very hard workers and often there were times were Yu Yan had to fend for herself if they were late. Not having any older siblings, when she entered SM and met other older trainees, you would not believe how happy she was. Even though she has a blunt nature, she yearns for a lot of attention from older members or trainees. She likes to cling onto them with a slight amount of distance and because of that, she picks up a lot of others personality traits.

HOW DID THEY GET INTO SM?:; Her friends found out about a global audition and told her but she forgot about it soon after. Thus, she was pushed by her relatives to attend an audition in China. She didn’t expect much and was really surprised when the judges seemed to have interest in her.

HOW DO THEY ACT ON VARIETY SHOWS?:; She completely forgets that she should have filter on her mouth and just speaks. Until she sees their manager on the side line and starts to filter certain things while still funnily dissing people. She works hard in the activities and tries her best to at least make a legendary cut.
