  1. /tosg/ New & Returning Player FAQ
  2.
  3. >I played [launch/last year/whatever], should I come back?
  4. The game has improved and changed a lot since you last played. If you played on launch, the servers are no longer laggy due to being overcapacity. If you played between launch and summer 2017, the game has undergone a major renewal which changes many mechanics. FPS optimization has happened, and FPS is "fine" now, but still dips when there is a lot going on (on most PCs only to 20~55 range, no more 3FPS).
  5. The game updates frequently and there are things to do, so just try it.
  6.
  7. >Is the game ded?
  8. No. It's not FFXIV or WoW but we have enough players to enjoy content together.
  9.
  10. >What server do I pick?
  11. Choose whatever is closest to you for best ping.
  12. Steam iTOS:
  13. - Klaipeda (NA)
  14. - Fedimian(EU)
  15. - Silute(SA)
  16. - Telsiai(SEA)
  17. Nexon jTOS:
  18. - ライマ (JP)
  19.
  20. >Are there /tosg/ guilds?
  21. Yes, PM the leader for an invite.
  22. iTOS:
  23. -Klaipeda
  24. Futureproof (ApplyAFineHorse3)
  25. cute (Merigolds and Majiene)
  26. -Orsha
  27. Kotatsu (Colyo)
  28. -Telsiai
  29. Comfy (neshoi)
  30. -Fedimian
  31. CoffeeHouse (Capyba)
  32. -Silute
  33. Lewd (Nanaumi)
  34.
  35. >What are the benefits to joining a guild?
  36. Guild events, guild territory wars (Coming Soon™), people to play with & ask questions to, ERP.
  37. Don't be a Kirito, this game is lonely by yourself and much of the end-game content requires a party.
  38.
  39. >Is there PVP?
  40. Yes, right now a 3v3 TBL system, which is active 4pm-6pm and 10pm-midnight on the Klaipeda server.
  41. Guild Territory Wars are Coming Soon™. Many players in the thread refer to this as "WoE". See here: https://treeofsavior.com/page/news/view.php?n=1109
  42.
  43. >Is this game Pay2Win?
  44. Not overly unless you are a serious whale. Cash shop primarily contains cosmetic costumes & items which speed up your progression. There are some gacha cubes which give good mats, but they give bad return unless you whale hard on them. You can obtain all the mats just by playing the game.
  45. The most controversial cash shop items are Enchant Scrolls and Tokens. Enchant Scrolls are an RNG gacha system that give stat benefits to otherwise cosmetic-only headgear. Luckily both the scrolls and enchanted hats are tradable, and appear on the market fairly often, so you don't have to participate in the gacha RNG system if you don't want to. Token is the game's premium account system.
  46.
  47. >Do I need a token? What are the benefits?
  48. It is highly recommended. The benefits are:
  49. - Able to learn attributes instantaneously
  50. - Reduced Market commission fee (30% 10%)
  51. - Able to list up to 10 items on the Market
  52. - +3 increased character movement
  53. - +30% EXP from hunting monsters
  54. - Able to use Premium Gestures
  55. - Increased maximum buff count
  56. - Able to use Personal Trade up to 30 times
  57. - 1 extra instance entry for missions and dungeons
  58. You get a free 7-day token from talking to the TP shop NPC, so pick that up. Once that runs out, see if you have enough silver to buy another one from the market; if not, suck it up and put down your shekels.
  59. Playing without a token for awhile is possible if you are really poorfag. After you have enough silver to buy your first 30-day token, you should have no trouble buying tokens off the market thereafter.
  60.
  61. >How does the class system work?
  62. There are two components to the class system: Ranks and Circles.
  63. Rank is a measurement of how strong your character is, and deem what classes are available for you to advance into. Rank 8 is the highest rank right now, with R9 right around the corner.
  64. Every time you reach class level 15, you can advance to the next rank, choosing a new class from the available pool. For example, Cleric/Wizard/Swordman/Archer are the "Rank 1 classes", whereas Pyromancer/Cryomancer are "Rank 2 classes" and Warlock is a "Rank 7" class.
  65. The number of times you've advanced into a class is referred to as your "circle" of that class. For example, if you pick Archer for rank 1 and 2, then Sapper at rank 3, you are now a C2 Archer / C1 Sapper. Most classes have 3 circles right now, so you cannot be a C4 sapper. Some classes only have 1 circle (hidden classes), and others don't have a circle 2 or 3 just yet (Rank 7 and 8 classes).
  66. The class system is often confusing for new players so for a better understanding, play around with these two simulators until it makes sense:
  67. https://tos.neet.tv/skill-planner
  68. http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/
  69.
  70. >What class do I pick?
  71. Whatever you think is the cutest. Most classes can clear most content in this game, even suboptimal builds are fine with proper investment. For your first character just pick what you like the sound of, don't worry too much about the thread's meta sperging until you have a semi-decent grasp on the game. Have a look here to get a general overview of what's available and what their costumes look like: http://www.tosbase.com/game/classes/
  72.
  73. >No, really, I want to be metaslave.
  74. https://treeofsavior.com/page/class/ranking.php
  75. Wiz3Ele3WL2: AoE grinding, end-game dungeon
  76. Wiz1Cryo3Chrono3Sage: Full support mobbing/buffs
  77. Wiz2Linker2Thaum2FF2: Item farming
  78. Archer2Ranger2[Appraiser1/Ranger3]SR3: Silver farming
  79. Wiz1Cryo3Sorc1Necro3: AFK farming (dead after a recent update)
  80. Sword1Highlander3Barb1Doppel3: Melee damage, AoE grinding, dungeons
  81. Cleric2Priest3ChaplainPD2: Healer with some AoE and auto attack damage
  82. Archer2[Sapper3/QS3]Falconer3: Falconer Support, Sapper variant for AoE damage, QS for single target
  83. Not listed in top 10 is Sword1Pelt1Hop1Rod3Murmillo1Shinobi: Broken tier meta damage dealer
  84. To reiterate, this is just what's popular right now. You don't have to roll these. Please don't cling to the meta too hard, it swings often due to major updates every ~6-8 months.
  85.
  86. >But I wasn't meta and now my character is bad!
  87. Even if you somehow build a character that can't clear anything at end-game (IQ80), it wasn't a total waste. At level 317 you may finish a questline to obtain a Mystical Cube you can open once a day. The box gives RNG drops, one of which is a material required for crafting many strong weapons.
  88. Also, the game has a "Team Level" system, which gives an EXP bonus to your entire account based on the combined total level of all your characters & companions.
  89.
  90. >What are attributes?
  91. Passives that you can buy from your class master NPC. They cost attribute points, 1 point = 1000 silver. You can calculate the costs of attributes here: https://tos.neet.tv/attributes
  92.
  93. >Can I reset my skills or stats?
  94. Skill and Stat resets are available in the TP shop and are sometimes given out as rewards for other things. These won't reset your chosen class circles.
  95.
  96. >Can I reset my chosen classes?
  97. Rank Resets for class resets are available from completing Adventure Journal requirements, and given out sometimes during major updates. You can also buy one(1) from a DLC package on the Steam store.
  98.
  99. >I found this build on tosbase, is it goo---
  100. NO. It is not good.
  101. Tosbase builds are either outdated, bad, or (most likely) both.
  102. Ask for build advice in the thread. When you get ignored, ask again later.
  103. Usually players are very helpful in guild, so if you have a lot of detailed questions, try joining a tosg guild and asking in guild chat.
  104.
  105. >What database do I use?
  106. https://tos.neet.tv/
  107. This is run in-house and uses information straight from the game files so accuracy can be guaranteed.
  108. Of course, we can't guarantee IMC's skill/item description accuracy though...
  109.
  110. >Are alts useful?
  111. Yes, both due to the current leveling process (outlined below) and various other benefits. The most recommended alts are generally Schwarzer Reiter3 for silver farming and Squire3 for base camp / food / self-repair or weapon maint.
  112. Note that both SR3 and the dungeon system have been updated recently on kTOS and we aren't yet sure if they will stay best silver farmer. For now they are still good.
  113. As mentioned before, getting any character to 317 is useful to get your Mystical Cube.
  114.
  115. >What is base camp?
  116. Base Camp, or just camp, is a Squire skill. Squires can set up a tent in open field maps. Then, you can warp your Squire's tent from any character on your account. It's very useful for moving new characters around the world, or farming certain field maps. What's more, in party, members can warp to each other's base camp as well. Check the tent icon in the top-left to warp.
  117. Camps give some other benefits too, such as extended buff duration if you buff near them, the ability to setup a food table which can dish out buffs to yourself/others, and accessible personal storage.
  118.
  119. >How do I level?
  120. Leveling has been largely trivialized due to a buff to dungeon EXP.
  121. On your first character, quest to level 50. You only have to do the Main quests (orange flags). Quest until you complete "Trapped Gesti" (https://tos.neet.tv/quests/8536)
  122. That should put you right around level 50. At level 50, do the 50 dungeon. With token you can do 3 dungeon runs per day.
  123. There are dungeons every 30 levels (50, 80, 110, 140, 170, 200, 230, 260, 290). Do a dungeon until you are high enough to switch to the next one.
  124. Type /indun and use world map ( https://tos.neet.tv/zones/world-map ) to figure out where dungeons are.
  125.
  126. At level 100, missions become available, accessible via NPC in north Klaipeda. The Siauliai mission is best for EXP, Crystal Mines is best for drops.
  127.
  128. Once you finish your dungeon/mission runs for the day, you have a few options:
  129. - Do dungeons on an alt
  130. - Quest
  131. - Farm the appropriate Hunting Grounds for your level ( https://waa.ai/tos_hg )
  132. - Try to find a field grinding party at level 190+ (this is hard these days)
  133. Generally it is recommended to make alts if you want to play more than a couple hours a day, or farm HG if you really like grinding. If you want to quest, keep in mind that you can't do quests more than 10 levels higher than you. Use https://tos.neet.tv/quests to find quests in your range.
  134.
  135. If you don't want to quest to get alts to 50, get to rank 2 however you want, then grind a map like Nevellet Quarry 1F/2F.
  136. Note that you can pick up map completion rewards from Wings of Vibora once for each character, so if you 100% a lot of maps, leveling alts becomes easier.
  137.
  138. >Is this game just based on dailies, then?
  139. Right now, yes, for the leveling process anyways. The leveling meta tends to change with big updates, and it looks like the new dungeon system in kTOS might mean field grinding is back. But right now it's daily dungeon spam.
  140. At end-game you will continue to do a decent bit of daily content. But end-game has things to farm and other stuff to do, so it's usually less alt-focused, and not as "do dailies, logoff" as dungeon leveling is.
  141.
  142. >What's my gear progression?
  143. For leveling you can normally get by with gear from Hunting Grounds. Look for the purple background gear on market that matches your level. You may need to identify it at an Appraiser shop.
  144. Once you have all your Hunting Grounds gear, start working towards a 315 purple or orange weapon. These require 1 or 2 practonium and a number of other mats depending on weapon, check the DB: https://tos.neet.tv/items?group=Weapon&ulvlmin=315&order=statd&f=1
  145. Sometimes the best weapon to craft is non-intuitive (some Wizards might want a Sword, etc), so be sure to ask if you aren't positive what's best for you.
  146. For some classes that value an extra damage line (like SR and Chaplain), the Cafrisun set stays good for a very long time. Otherwise, don't get too attached to it, the HG gear should generally be used especially at 170+.
  147. Detailed gear progression is very class dependent so feel free to ask in guild or the thread.
  148.
  149. >Why is everybody 1 shotting everything?
  150. During the summer 2017 renewal, IMC changed the Priest skill "Blessing" to scale with SPR and generally be a stronger buff than it was before. People can buy Blessing from player-based Pardoner shops, typically for 400-750 silver. The problem is that these shops are selling Blessing tuned for level 330 content, which is completely broken in lower levels and allows auto-attacks to 1 shot everything up to level 170ish.
  151. The game is essentially a tutorial until level 200.
  152.
  153. >Why did all the mobs in my dungeon just teleport to the entrance and die?
  154. This is called an Instance Clear Voucher. It's only usable up to the 170 dungeon.
  155.
  156. >People keep hitting Match 2 to 4 and it makes us lose EXP!
  157. DON'T BE AFRAID TO SLAM THAT "MATCH 2 TO 4" BUTTON FOR DUNGEONS.
  158. You may notice in your character buff window that you get +100% EXP for every party member you queue with in instances. This isn't accurate. You get +20% for queueing with other people and it doesn't matter if you have 2-5 players, the EXP is the same.
  159.
  160. >Is there an EXP penalty for killing mobs out of your level range?
  161. Yes. There is no penalty for mobs within 30 levels of you. After +/-30 levels, there is a 5% reduction in EXP per level.
  162.
  163. >What is Earth Tower?
  164. Earth Tower is the end-game dungeon. You can do it twice a day, and it drops materials required to craft some of the best armors and weapons in the game. We refer to floors 1~20F as Earth Tower, and 21~40F as Solmiki.
  165. It's possible to start at 21F if you hold an item called Symbol of G'bb, which drops from clearing 20F for the first time. If people ask "Do you have symbol?", this is what they mean.
  166. ET has a lot of specific mechanics and can be hard for new players, both to understand the gimmicks and to deal enough damage. Ask your guild if you can come to ET runs, even if they are full, they might know another party that needs a slot filled.
  167. Expect to fail or be confused at first if you don't have a strong carry or anyone willing to explain mechanics to you. Looking up guides can help but having someone explain to you is generally easier, and I think most players are willing to.
  168. It's simple after you run it a couple times though, so don't be too intimidated by it.
  169.
  170. >What are the most useful addons?
  171. Get the add-on manager: https://github.com/JTosAddon/Tree-of-Savior-Addon-Manager/releases
  172. You most likely want the following add-ons:
  173. - BarrackItemList
  174. - Buff Counter
  175. - Market Show Level
  176. - Monster Frames
  177. Don't go too crazy with the other add-ons. A lot of them have been integrated into the game already and might break stuff. So just play for a bit and then see what else you might want.
  178.
  179. >I'm level 317. How do I get my Mystical Cube?
  180. https://forum.treeofsavior.com/t/getting-practonium-simplified-steps/331975
  181.
  182. >What are cards for?
  183. Cards have a few uses. Primarily, if you equip them in their respective slot, they provide whatever bonus the card text says. In addition to this, Sorcerers use cards to summon monsters, and necromancers use cards in their Necronomicon to give stats to a summon called Shoggoth.
  184. Cards have levels, which are designated by a ★ value. To level a card, feed it other cards you don't need or special card EXP items (these are usually event). Before feeding a card, check the market to make sure you aren't accidentally feeding away something valuable.
  185.
  186. >What are collections?
  187. If you collect a chest on a map, then collect a set of items on that map (varies by map), you can gain benefits to all characters on your account. These are usually stat boosts, but sometimes other nice things like additional Team Storage slots.
  188. https://forum.treeofsavior.com/t/guide-grand-collection-chest-guide/177468
  189. http://www.tosbase.com/database/collections/
  190.
  191. >What is Wings of Vibora? Or the Adventure Journal?
  192. Wings of Vibora (or Vaivora) is an NPC in Klaipeda, next to the event notice board. She allows you to access your Adventure Journal, and receive EXP cards for exploring maps to 100%. In the Adventure Journal, you can increase your adventure rank by doing all sorts of stuff; collecting items, crafting, killing monsters. Just open it up and have a look around every now and then to understand it.
  193. One update changed the adventure journal quite a bit, so if you find outdated info about the journal, read here too: https://treeofsavior.com/page/news/view.php?n=1064
  194.
  195. >How do I farm silver?
  196. Make an SR3, get a +11 Manamana and a Cafrisun set, then do 140 dungeon 3 times a day. If you want to keep going, farm R8 maps (Timerys Temple). Be aware that major updates are coming soon so we don't know how much longer this will be viable.
  197.
  198. >I have 16ms ping!
  199. No you don't. The value you see next to your FPS is frame delta. Don't ask why it's there.
  200.
  201. >What is this green "AAA" bar above my HP/SP?
  202. A bug. Ignore it.
  203.
  204. >What is this "TP MAX" thing in my inventory?
  205. Every 4 hours you get 1 free TP, and it caps out at 5. Most players use it to buy Soul Crystals, Emergency Repair Kits, and Megaphones.
  206.
  207. >I can't click on this shit I need to gather for a quest!
  208. Switch to keyboard mode and do it.
  209. Mouse mode was added late in development and can be buggy, but is still viable for many classes if you prefer it.
  210.
  211. >Useful commands?
  212. /indun - Show remaining daily entrance limits for various dungeons.
  213. //ping - View your ping (shown in seconds)
  214.
  215. >Can I remove the annoying shout ticker at the top?
  216. Click the gear above your chatbox.
  217.
  218. Also, pay attention to the Event notice board in Klaipeda, sometimes it might have useful stuff for you to pick up.
