  1. It’s an average Friday morning as you wake up. Other than needing more milk after using the last of it for breakfast nothing noteworthy happens to interrupt your morning routine.
  2.
  3. As you’re about to leave you remember something important. Literature Club is meeting at Yuri’s house today. She’s sure to want to talk about Portrait of Markov. Running to your room you quickly snag your copy and put it in your backpack before heading to Sayori’s house.
  4.
  5. “Good morning Sayori!” you announce as you walk in. As you enter the living room you see Natsuki sitting on the couch, not even out of her pajamas.
  6.
  7. “Natsuki, shouldn’t you be dressed by now?”
  8.
  9. “Well I would be if someone didn’t forget to set our alarm!” she yells in the direction of the bathroom.
  10.
  11. “I thought you had your own room and your own alarm?”
  12.
  13. Natsuki looks embarrassed and blushes.
  14.
  15. “W-Well I wanted to sleep in Sayori’s room last night… Is that a problem!?” she responds, shouting the last part.
  16.
  17. You hear the bathroom sink stop and the door open. Sayori comes out, her uniform skirt and shirt on.
  18.
  19. “It’s not a problem at all Natsuki” Sayori says cheerfully.
  20.
  21. “Sayori, do you want me to make breakfast for you and Natsuki?” you ask as she goes to her room to finish getting dressed.
  22.
  23. Natsuki’s eyes light up as soon as she hears you say ‘breakfast’.
  24.
  25. “Oh, that’d be great, thanks!” she shouts back through her slightly cracked bedroom door.
  26.
  27. Being short on time you decide to whip up a couple basic omelettes. Nothing fancy, but Sayori and Natsuki will enjoy it anyways, no matter how much Natsuki pretends to poke fun at your cooking skills.
  28.
  29. Natsuki finishes her shower and is dressed by the time you’re finished cooking. Sayori comes down just shortly before as well.
  30.
  31. The girls quickly devour the omelettes you’ve prepared.
  32.
  33. “Was my cooking up to par, chef?” you slyly say to Natsuki as she’s finishing up.
  34.
  35. She’s caught off guard as she blushes.
  36.
  37. “W-Well I mean… I guess they were ok…” she says. “But you still have a ways to go!”
  38.
  39. You and Sayori giggle as Natsuki says this smugly.
  40.
  41. Finishing up with breakfast you and the girls head out the door and towards school.
  42.
  43. “Hey Natsuki” you ask to break the silence of the walk. “You know how to get to Yuri’s house, right?”
  44.
  45. Natsuki shouts back without even turning to you and Sayori. “Of course I do, I’ve been there enough times.”
  46.
  47. “Oh that’s right!” Sayori says, remembering something. “Yuri wanted me to help pick out some teas with her at lunch for when we get to her place. I hope you don’t mind.”
  48.
  49. “It’s fine, maybe I’ll find Natsuki during lunch.”
  50.
  51. “I’d like to see you try!” Natsuki says, turning her head to reveal a smug grin.
  52.
  53. Getting to the school you and Sayori part ways with Natsuki as you all head to class. Shortly after you run into Yuri.
  54.
  55. “Hey Yuri!” Sayori shouts.
  56.
  57. Yuri walks over to you two, happy to see the both of you.
  58.
  59. “I told Anon that we were going to get tea at lunch, he said he’ll keep Natsuki company.”
  60.
  61. “That’s wonderful, I just hope she doesn’t feel like playing hide and seek with him.”
  62.
  63. Well at least Natsuki will be having fun at lunch today.
  64.
  65. “By the way” Yuri says, turning to you “is there any kind of tea you’d like us to get for you.”
  66.
  67. Something about the way Yuri says this, warmly smiling but almost staring in to your soul, as if what you answer will decide some kind of cosmic fate.
  68.
  69. “I… uhh… I guess I’d be fine with anything. I like the kind you usually make.”
  70.
  71. Even though she doesn’t move her lips any, you can tell Yuri is happier hearing those words.
  72.
  73. “Oh, you like floral blends too? Maybe I’ll get something similar. I’m sure Sayori will be able to help.”
  74.
  75. Yuri is incredibly close to you at this point. It’s almost as if she got closer without you noticing. You can almost feel her warmth on you.
  76.
  77. “Well Anon isn’t the biggest tea drinker, but I’m sure I know his tastes better than he thinks I do!” Sayori says.
  78.
  79. Yuri turns to Sayori now with a similarly interested expression.
  80.
  81. “Do you like the same kinds of drinks he does?” Yuri asks Sayori.
  82.
  83. “Well, I mean… I guess. He drinks more soda than I do, but in all the years I’ve known him I’ve never once found something I dislike in his refrigerator.”
  84.
  85. “I never asked you to go through it you know!” you say, crossing your arms, slightly annoyed.
  86.
  87. “Well you’ve gotten to do the same at my house, so I guess we’re even.” Sayori says, winking at you.
  88.
  89. Yuri smiles.
  90.
  91. “Having such a close connection with each other since childhood. I’d almost be jealous if it wasn’t such a happy concept itself.”
  92.
  93. “Wh-what do you mean…” Sayori asks, blushing.
  94.
  95. “Oh no, I just meant there’s plenty of stories of childhood friends growing up together and staying together.”
  96.
  97. The mood is awkward now as there’s a moment of silence. Yuri seems to sense this quickly.
  98.
  99. “I-I didn’t mean it like that! I just thought it was nice and all…” Yuri turns to Sayori. “Good friends are hard to come by, I’m glad I’ve found you three.”
  100.
  101. Realizing what she said, Yuri’s eyes widen. She needs to get to class.
  102.
  103. Sayori senses it too. You’ve been talking pretty long.
  104.
  105. “I’ll see you at lunch Yuri!” Sayori says as you two hurry to class.
  106.
  107. You and Sayori make it with enough time to get comfortable in your seats.
  108.
  109. “Need a pen?” Sayori asks, teasingly.
  110.
  111. “Nope, I’ve got mine right h-”
  112.
  113. Sayori giggles to herself as you freeze, turning your head to the floor.
  114.
  115. “Thanks, Sayori…” you say, grabbing the pen she’s holding out to you.
  116.
  117. *****
  118.
  119. Before you know it, it’s lunch time.
  120.
  121. “I’ll see you later Anon!” Sayori says as you wave her goodbye from the hall just outside the classroom door.
  122.
  123. As you turn around to go back into the classroom you see a familiar face.
  124.
  125. “Natsuki?” you say as it becomes obvious that you both notice each other.
  126.
  127. She’s holding two wrapped bentos. As you walk up to her she hands you one.
  128.
  129. “Sayori and I made this for you last night… She thought you’d be more likely to hang out with me if you didn’t have to go to the cafeteria.”
  130.
  131. Indeed you had forgone making a lunch today.
  132.
  133. “What do you mean, why wouldn’t I want to eat lunch with you?”
  134.
  135. “Well, it’s not just that. I just thought maybe… you’d like it if I made you one…”
  136.
  137. “Natsuki, that’s very sweet of you.” you say with a smile.
  138.
  139. Natsuki pouts.
  140.
  141. “Geez, why do you have to say it like that, just tell me it’s nice! You don’t have to be all weird…”
  142.
  143. You chuckle to yourself as you lead Natsuki into your classroom. She takes Sayori’s seat next to yours.
  144.
  145. As you open the bento you can see a lot of effort has been put into it. Onigiri, octopus hotdogs, shaped Nori, Natsuki really went all out for this.
  146.
  147. “Natsuki, this is amazing, you didn’t have to make such a fancy one just for me.”
  148.
  149. “Fancy?” Natsuki says, almost sounding embarrassed. “This is how I normally make my bento. I just added a couple things Sayori said you might like.”
  150.
  151. Indeed, your bento is pretty different from Natsuki’s. Hers seems to have more vegetables and fish instead of meat. Yet hers is still equally decorative.
  152.
  153. As you and Natsuki eat, you decide to start a conversation.
  154.
  155. “So, Natsuki, how long have you and Yuri known each other?”
  156.
  157. “I guess it’s been about a year or two now…” she responds. “We were seated next to each other and kinda talked a bit here and there, but weren’t really friends.”
  158.
  159. “What happened?” you ask.
  160.
  161. “Well, it’s kind of a long story. One day I was going to the vending machines. I had enough to get myself a snack that day. When I was walking through the halls I heard someone shouting around the corner, so I looked. It was a bunch of girls surrounding Yuri. They had her against the vending machines. I almost just walked away, but she noticed me. And when she did I saw such a sad look in her eyes. It reminded me too much of…”
  162.
  163. At this point Natsuki’s eyes are about to tear up. She quickly wipes her eyes before pausing for a moment.
  164.
  165. “Anyways… Even though I wasn’t really that close to her I couldn’t just abandon her at that point. So I shouted back at the girls harassing her. They tried to insult me, but I didn’t listen, I just yelled back. Eventually one of them went back to saying things to Yuri and…”
  166.
  167. Natsuki again pauses, seemingly trying to regain her composure.
  168.
  169. “I don’t know, I guess something kicked in and I had headbutted her to the ground. After that they never bothered Yuri again. From that point on we were friends. Maybe not as close as you and Sayori, but we had a connection. There were a few times she had defended me too. I guess we just kinda started looking out for each other. Sure maybe we don’t see eye to eye on everything, but it’s like, I do care about her, you know…”
  170.
  171. Again Natsuki looks to be on the verge of tears. No wonder she was so worried hearing about Yuri having a knife at the festival.
  172.
  173. “I think I understand what you mean.” you say, patting Natsuki on the back.
  174.
  175. “I hope she doesn’t think I chose Sayori over her. Yuri means a lot to me too, being pretty much my first friend, but Sayori just kind of felt like a big sister after what happened.”
  176.
  177. “I’m sure Yuri understands.” you assure Natsuki.
  178.
  179. After finishing lunch you walk Natsuki out to the hallway. As you two are about to part ways, Natsuki turns and gives you a hug.
  180.
  181. “I guess you’re kind of like a big brother to me too…” she says, burying her face into you.
  182.
  183. Usually Natsuki is more reserved in school. Seems like talking about Yuri got to her somewhat.
  184.
  185. Sayori gets back soon after Natsuki leaves.
  186.
  187. “Oh hey, how was lunch?” she asks, sitting down.
  188.
  189. “Oh, it was pretty good.” you tell her.
  190.
  191. “I’m sure you liked the bento Natsuki made for you. She thought you wouldn’t want to sit with her at lunch so I guess she kinda made it as a bribe. I made sure to help out since I knew I had to help Yuri at lunch.”
  192.
  193. Sayori holds up a bag she carried in with her.
  194.
  195. “And look! Yuri got some extra tea that I can take home!”
  196.
  197. *****
  198.
  199. Natsuki sits in her desk, waiting for the after lunch bell to ring. Before it does she notices Yuri come into the classroom. They both smile at each other as Yuri walks over to Natsuki.
  200.
  201. “How was lunch, Natsuki?” Yuri inquires.
  202.
  203. “Oh, it went fine…” Natsuki trails off. “Yuri… you’re not mad that I’m living with Sayori, are you?”
  204.
  205. Yuri looks genuinely surprised as her eyes widen.
  206.
  207. “Not at all! What would make you think that?” Yuri says, not entirely sure how to respond.
  208.
  209. “I just… we’ve known each other longer, and I turned down your offers to take a spare room before, and-”
  210.
  211. But before Natsuki can say anymore Yuri wraps her arms tightly around Natsuki.
  212.
  213. “Natsuki, I know you worry about me. I worried about you too. But it seems that Sayori and her house are perfect for you. So don’t worry about all that. I see you at school and we still text each other. Besides, I can’t bring myself to be jealous of Sayori, that’d just be too mean to someone as cheery as her.”
  214.
  215. Natsuki sniffles as she wipes her face on Yuri’s chest. Yuri is visibly embarrassed by this.
  216.
  217. Natsuki gives a small, but warm smile to Yuri.
  218.
  219. “Thanks, I’m glad it was all just in my head.”
  220.
  221. *****
  222.
  223. As class finishes up you and Sayori head to find Yuri and Natsuki. Natsuki is already waiting nearby.
  224.
  225. “Hey, Natsuki. Where’s Yuri?” you ask.
  226.
  227. “Oh, she went ahead of me, said she needed to get some things ready for us.”
  228.
  229. “Well then I guess lead the way, Natsuki!” Sayori says cheerfully.
  230.
  231. *****
  232.
  233. As you get closer to Yuri’s house you notice the houses around you becoming much nicer and bigger. Many of them are Western style.
  234.
  235. Eventually Natsuki stops in front of a house. It’s not the biggest around, but it could reasonably be called a mansion, at least to someone like you.
  236.
  237. Natsuki types in the code for the gate and you all proceed up the driveway. Yuri must have heard the gate open, because she’s waiting at the front door as you come up.
  238.
  239. Yuri seems to have decided to change out of her school uniform. She’s wearing black sweatpants and a purple hoodie. She’s also put her long hair up into a bun. As she comes out to greet you she slips on a pair of white slippers. It’s almost strange seeing Yuri dressed this way, she’s normally so meticulous about her appearance in school. But at the same time it’s comforting to see her at home. The fact that she changed out of her uniform must mean she’s comfortable around all of you.
  240.
  241. “Come on in!” Yuri says, greeting you. “I’ll show you to my room, I just finished making tea.”
  242.
  243. As you enter pass the large, wooden double doors you come to a large foyer with a central staircase. You can see on your right side is the living room, and to your left the dining room. The entire house is modestly decorated, but you can tell great care was put into the decor. That and a lot of money.
  244.
  245. Yuri leads you upstairs and down a hall with about four rooms lining it. She follows the hallway to the end before opening the door at the end on the right.
  246.
  247. Entering Yuri’s room you see that it’s about the size of your own living room. There’s a queen sized bed off slightly to one corner. Opposite the bed is a desk, where you notice a tea set. Most strikingly however is the massive bookshelf that seems to take the center place of the room. Every inch of the shelf is filled with books. Some spots on it even have books stacked on their sides. Even still you notice a couple moderately sized stacks of books on her desk.
  248.
  249. “Wow, Yuri, you sure do have a lot of books!” Sayori says, amazed at the collection.
  250.
  251. “Well thank you, Sayori.” Yuri replies warmly. “It’s taken a while to get this many, but I’ve read most of them.”
  252.
  253. Sayori looks even more surprised hearing that. In fact, you do as well. There’s gotta be a couple hundred books, at least!
  254.
  255. Scanning Yuri’s bookshelf further you notice some books that look rather old, and a few in different languages. One book in particular catches your eye. It’s spine is lined with Cyrillic letters, most of which you can’t recognize.
  256.
  257. “Yuri, what’s this Russian book?” you inquire, pointing to it.
  258.
  259. “Oh! That’s a first edition of the Portrait of Markov! I found it at a book fair a while back after I had finished reading my translated copy.”
  260.
  261. A while back? How many times has Yuri read this book? It must be one of her favorites if she’s having you read it.
  262.
  263. “That’s really cool, Yuri!” Sayori beams, moving to inspect the bookshelf further as well. “You gotta take me to that book fair next week!”
  264.
  265. “I’ll be sure to.” Yuri says, with a smile.
  266.
  267. Natsuki seems to find a comfortable spot on the bed immediately as she goes through her bag and takes out a Parfait Girls volume. Sayori goes and sits next to her as they begin reading.
  268.
  269. Yuri pours out cups of tea and hands them to everyone. Sayori and Natsuki hardly look except to say thank you as Yuri hands them their tea cups.
  270.
  271. “Sayori and I picked out this tea for you, I hope you like it.” Yuri says with a warm smile as she hands you a cup.
  272.
  273. You take a sip. It’s very similar to the usual tea Yuri makes, but something is different. It’s slightly sweeter and has ever so different flavors. You notice a bit of orange as you take another sip. It’s really good tea.
  274.
  275. “Wow, Yuri, this tea is really good!”
  276.
  277. “I knew he’d like it!” Sayori shouts to you and Yuri.
  278.
  279. “I guess it’s good I gave Sayori some to take home, now she can make it for you too.”
  280.
  281. By this time Sayori has snuck up behind Yuri and gives her a big hug from behind.
  282.
  283. “Thanks, Yuri! And thanks for letting us come to your house, it’s so nice!” Sayori says, squeezing Yuri from behind, arms pushing into Yuri’s chest.
  284.
  285. Yuri looks embarrassed to be hugged in such a manner at first, but then accepts it. After a few moments however, she speaks up.
  286.
  287. “Sayori, not that I don’t like your hug, but you’re kind of hurting my…” Yuri says, looking embarrassed as she notices you nearby.
  288.
  289. “Oh! Sorry!” Sayori says, jumping back as she releases her grip.
  290.
  291. Yuri sits down on the floor, resting her back on the bed, opposite Sayori and Natsuki. She motions for you to join her.
  292.
  293. Grabbing your copy of Portrait of Markov you sit down next to her and open to where you left off.
  294.
  295. As is normal by now you and Yuri are in sync to a degree as you read through the pages. Occasionally she finishes the pages with enough time to take a sip of tea before you turn. She elegantly grabs the porcelain cups, making sure to not put her fingers through the loop of the handle, but instead holding it with her first two fingers and thumb. It’s almost distracting how natural she is drinking tea like this.
  296.
  297. Yuri in general is pretty distracting just by existing. It’s strange how someone as elegant and beautiful ended up being in such a small club and with so few friends.
  298.
  299. It makes sense for Sayori, she’s always been eccentric, never letting her natural looks mean anything. Probably didn’t help either that she grew up with you and picked up on some of your habits. But maybe that’s a good thing. Especially with what she deals with, having too many people around might not have been good for her mental health.
  300.
  301. Natsuki is cute, but she’s definitely abrasive. Not to say she isn’t a good girl, but not everyone can see past that, and it’s doubtful she likes opening up to many people.
  302.
  303. And Monika… Her starting the club is still something you can’t exactly figure out....
  304.
  305. As these thoughts pass in your head you soon realize you’ve flipped through a page or two without even really reading.
  306.
  307. “Oh, sorry Yuri, can we go back a bit, I think I missed a couple paragraphs.”
  308.
  309. Yuri smiles. “It’s fine, I like this part anyways.”
  310.
  311. After turning back a page or two you continue reading normally with Yuri.
  312.
  313. Time flies by as you read. Eventually you notice Sayori and Natsuki on their phones, showing each other things that they both laugh at.
  314.
  315. “I think this is a good stopping point.” Yuri says as you reach one of the last half dozen or so chapters.
  316.
  317. Sayori and Natsuki hear this and sit down next to you and Yuri. Sayori sits quite close to you, pushing you further into Yuri.
  318.
  319. “Guess Anon has some weekend Literature Club homework, huh?” Sayori says, smiling at you and Yuri.
  320.
  321. “Now this isn’t an official assignment from the Club President, is it?” you ask, slightly annoyed.
  322.
  323. Sayori smiles and winks. “Why of course it is!”
  324.
  325. You sigh, resigning yourself to your fate.
  326.
  327. Sayori stands up and reaches her hand to help you up. She then reaches out to Natsuki, who looks down from Sayori’s hand.
  328.
  329. “Actually, Sayori… I think I’m gonna stay here for a bit longer. I’ll be home later tonight. Is that ok?” Natsuki asks softly, looking up at Sayori.
  330.
  331. “Of course! I don’t have a problem with that at all!” Sayori responds with a smile. “Is it ok with you, Yuri?”
  332.
  333. “Of course, you’re welcome to stay too if you want.” Yuri says to Sayori.
  334.
  335. “I’d love to! But… I’ve actually been forgetting to do my laundry all week, so I kinda have to be home…” Sayori says with an embarrassed smile as she twiddles her fingers.
  336.
  337. “Guess that means Sayori probably needs me to clean her room too.”
  338.
  339. Sayori looks even more embarrassed before she hugs on to your arm
  340.
  341. “Thanks for the offer, Anon!” she beams. “But yeah, don’t worry, Yuri… Natsuki… We’ll be fine. I’m sure we’ll have plenty more chances to stay over.”
  342.
  343. “Thanks, Sayori.” Natsuki says, smiling. “You remember the way back, right?”
  344.
  345. “I think so. Anon is good with directions in any case, so worst case he leads the way.”
  346.
  347. Yuri and Natsuki lead you and Sayori downstair and to the front door.
  348.
  349. “Well, I guess we’ll see you two later. Goodbye, Yuri, thanks for having us over!” you say, heading out the door. But before you can cross the threshold, Yuri gives you a hug, as she seems to like doing. Though she releases it quicker than normal and embraces Sayori.
  350.
  351. With that you and Sayori leave.
  352.
  353. *****
  354.
  355. Yuri goes back to her room with Natsuki. Natsuki goes into Yuri’s closet and emerges in an oversized sweatshirt, having taken off her school uniform entirely.
  356.
  357. “So I see you have his pen again…” Natsuki says to Yuri in a sly voice.
  358.
  359. Yuri’s face turns bright red as Natsuki slaps her on the back and laughs.
  360.
  361. “So it IS his! I knew it! Of course he doesn’t realize you’re stealing it… By the way, why are you stealing it? Does it help you write better or something?”
  362.
  363. Yuri’s face turns even brighter red as she snatches the pen from Natsuki’s hand, putting it in the pocket of her hoodie.
  364.
  365. *****
  366.
  367.
  368. You and Sayori arrive to her house.
  369.
  370. “Guess I should start cleaning your room, huh?” you asks, heading towards Sayori’s room.
  371.
  372. “Actually, I kinda just used that as an excuse. I think Natsuki wanted to spend some time alone with Yuri.”
  373.
  374. Now that she mentions it, Natsuki did seem a bit weird about Yuri today.
  375.
  376. “But thank you for the offer!” Sayori beams with a smile. “I think I’ll start on dinner, I’m sure Natsuki will still be hungry even after eating at Yuri’s.”
  377.
  378. “Ok, Sayori. I’ll talk to you later then!”
  379.
  380. “Bye!” Sayori shouts brightly as you leave her house.
  381.
  382. Getting home you make yourself a quick dinner and plant yourself in front of the television for a bit. Might as well play some video games since you have the time.
  383.
  384. *****
  385.
  386. “Yuri, what the heck is this?” Natsuki asks, holding a black, sheathed dagger. “I thought you were getting rid of your knives?”
  387.
  388. Yuri looks embarrassed as she grabs the dagger and puts it on a higher shelf she thinks Natsuki can’t reach.
  389.
  390. “I-I got that after reading the book Monika gave me. She said her great grandfather had one just like it, and was impressed when I showed it to her. Besides, it’s too expensive to just get rid of!”
  391.
  392. Natsuki sighs as she crosses her arms over her chest. “Well, I guess as long as you aren’t doing anything bad with it…”
  393.
  394. “Oh no! Never! That dagger has too much history for me to even consider that! I just… Kinda liked it… Especially after reading that book…”
  395.
  396. Natsuki looks less frustrated now. “Well, I’m not sure I want to read a book that makes people buy weird stuff like that… Though… I guess it is nice looking…”
  397.
  398. *****
  399.
  400. Several hours pass by as you play video games. Eventually you decide to take a break and grab a snack and a drink.
  401.
  402. While you’re up you decide to text Sayori.
  403.
  404. “Hey, you enjoying some quiet time, lol”
  405.
  406. After a couple minutes Sayori texts back.
  407.
  408. “Natsuki actually just got back a few minutes ago, I think she wants to play some Mario Party when she’s done in the shower.”
  409.
  410. Looks like you and Sayori have similar plans.
  411.
  412. As you crack open a can of soda you plop yourself back on the couch, queing up in the next game lobby.
  413.
  414. *****
  415.
  416. Natsuki comes out of the shower wearing white shorts with subtle pink polka dots and a matching tank top that’s just too small that her belly button is visible.
  417.
  418. She sits down next to Sayori, who already has Mario Party set up. Natsuki leans her head into Sayori and grabs her controller.
  419.
  420. “So how was Yuri’s?” Sayori asks.
  421.
  422. “It was good being over again…” Natsuki says, completely focused on the game.
  423.
  424. “That’s great!” Sayori says with a smile that quickly turns to despair as Natsuki knocks her off the ledge in a moment of distraction.
  425.
  426. Natsuki smiles smugly to herself.
  427.
  428. After a couple hours of playing Sayori and Natsuki are both tired and start heading to bed. Before going into her room, Natsuki gives Sayori a hug good night.
  429.
  430. “Oh, by the way, Sayori, next time you see anon, give him this. Yuri said she it fell out of his bag at her place and wanted to give it back.” Natsuki says, handing a pen to Sayori. “Though maybe I’d wipe it off first… Uhh, because I dropped it on the way back, yeah! Anyways, good night Sayori!”
  431.
  432. With that Natsuki quickly closes her bedroom door.
  433.
  434. Sayori looks at the pen with an odd look in her eye before clutching it and heading into her room for the night.
