  1. Building roads and parking lots in areas that were once fielded can increase the risk the flooding for a few reasons. Firstly, the compaction levels are highly different between the materials they use for the road, and the soil that the field was once on.To explain, the soil/material compaction is the amount/measure of how many air pockets are inside of the soil/material.To further explain, if there is not that much compaction like in soil, there is room for water to infiltrate into it but since the new roads material is highly compact/dense, there will be no room for water to infiltrate. This means The water will stay on top of the road and gravity will cause the water to go to the lowest point it can. lastly, this will make it a lot easier for regional floods to occur. As explained before, the water instead of being absorbed by the un-compacted material (soil), the water has a greater chance of travelling to the lowest point it can and then building up to the point where property damages could be made.In conclusion, it is a greater risk of flooding since the water won't be absorbed by the field, and it will most likely travel to the lowest point, build up, and flood that area.
