  1. Jade Cocoon research:
  2. --
  3.
  4. emulator used: ePSXe 1.9.0
  5. version of game: PAL (E) [SLES-02201]
  6. cheat device used: Cheat Engine 6.4
  7.
  8. All Gameshark codes and Cheat Engine addresses listed are for PAL version of the game.
  9. I'm no good at generating GameShark codes, hence the use of Cheat Engine addresses.
  10. --
  11.
  12. Attract Spores:
  13. change 00AE2ECC to 42
  14.
  15. How I found them:
  16. I needed to find the value that determines what item is in what slot. I tested it on Great Walnut as that can be used without needing a minion or Levant hurt or needing MP.
  17. I used Great Walnuts to lower the # of this item, and using Decrease value by 1, I found the item address.
  18. Using Cheat Engine's memory region (Ctrl+B), I edited the value of the address behind it to change the item.
  19. So:
  20. * 00AE2ECC = item
  21. * 00AE2ECD = item #
  22. Changing the value of 0AE2ECC changes the Great Walnut. A value of 42 gives us the Attract Spores.
  23.
  24. No one knows where to obtain these legit, though for all we know they could be in a chest we all missed. Until this matter is settled once and for all with evidence, I'm assuming these are unused.

  27.
  28. Medinia:
  29. use gameshark code 8008BF7D 0040 (I did it via PEC psx emulation cheater)
  30.
  31. This code changes the spell in the 2nd slot to something Water-elemental. A value of 40 = Medinia.
  32.
  33. Medinia is a Water-based spell that heals all HP. It costs 50 MP to cast.
  34. No minion or boss uses this spell.
  35. The minion Narade WAS supposed to use this spell, according to the Japanese guide. (source: http://thejadecocoonproject.wikia.com/wiki/Narade)

  38.
  39. Hidden spells:
  40.
  41. http://thejadecocoonproject.wikia.com/wiki/Hidden_spells
  42.
  43. These spells aren't unused, as they are used by the Nether bosses (Tuturis, Seterian, Delfanel and Cushidra) but you can use them via hacking.
  44.
  45. Gameshark codes for each spell:
  46. 8008BF7E 0002 = Tuturis' fire spell
  47. 8008BF7E 0004 = Cushidra's water spell
  48. 8008BF7E 0008 = Delfanel's earth spell
  49. 8008BF7E 0010 = Seterian's air spell
  50. 8008BF7E 0020 = Cushidra & Seterian's healing spell
  51.
  52. When used, most of the spells only do 1 hit point of damage, even when used on a minion weak to that element. This is likely due to the fact that I tested these spells on an Arpatron, a water based minion, hence the water spell did decent damage and the other spells did not.
  53. Assuming this is true, you can hack a spell onto a minion of that respective element and have it work fine.
  54.
  55. And yes, the third minion you've equipped glitches out and goes missing, so don't save your game or use all your save state slots trying it out.

  58.
  59. Unused valuables:
  60.
  61. Some stone tablets aren't obtainable ingame outside of hacking.
  62.
  63. How I found them:
  64. I couldn't figure out how to find the Valuables values, so I figured the table of values would be further on from the Items table, so I moved on down in the Memory Viewer and started fiddling with values until I found them.
  65.
  66. Merging 3 = set 00AE3150 to 5
  67. Secret 2 = set 00AE3150 to 17
  68. Secret 3 = set 00AE3150 to 33
  69.

  71.
  72. Unused graphics:
  73.
  74. Running Jade Cocoon through the program jPSCdec, you can see .str movies, hear .xa files, and see graphics.
  75.
  76. NOTE: listed below is currently under research and not confirmed.
  77.
  78. This is from the DATA.001 file
  79. I think the following are unused:
  80. [139]_p00.png
  81. [162]_p00.png
  82. [417]_p00.png // probably used, can't remember where it might be
  83. [566]_p00.png // evil cocoon looking thing.
  84. [784]_p00.png // probably used, don't know where
  85. [800]_p00.png // used? looks like an irl pic, probably to test something
  86. [2320]_p00.png // Koris unused masked portrait
  87.
  88. Japanese writing not likely to be seen in the PAL or NTSC versions
  89. [173]_p00.png
  90. [182]_p00.png
  91. and much more
  92.
  93. --
  94.
  95. Unobtainable minions:
  96.
  97. There are minions you can never fight/own outside of cheating. They are:
  98. Colunius
  99. Shakures
  100. Ibdamia
  101. Ketow
  102. Lakshel
  103. Setolka
  104. Sbarse
  105. Tyton
  106. Ehsp
  107. Rashaba
  108.
  109. Most are elemental variants of existing minions:
  110.
  111. Tweengo variants:
  112. Colunius // fire
  113. Shakures // air
  114. Ibdamia // earth
  115. Ketow // basically Tweengo but with different stats
  116.
  117. Sherick variants:
  118. Lakshel // basically Sherick with same stats but green head + tail rather than blue
  119. Setolka // air
  120. Sbarse // earth
  121. Tyton // water
  122.
  123. Ehsp is a water-based chameleon-like minion that is never encountered. It looks a lot like a Agghai but is a lighter blue. It's elemental variants are encountered in the Eternal Corridor only.
  124.
  125. Rashaba is a fire-based snail-like minion that is never encountered. It looks a lot like a Nupandra but is a darker red. It's elemental variants are encountered in the Eternal Corridor only.
  126.
  127. You CAN use bosses like minions e.g. Palooja and Klarrgas, but they are glitchy.
  128.

  131. Version differences:
  132.
  133. http://thejadecocoonproject.wikia.com/wiki/Version_Differences_%28Jade_Cocoon_1%29
  134.
  135. * The snail minions (Fal, Anash, Asha, Shulia, and Shee) used to look like fairies look like black fairies in the original Japanese version. This is likely changed to avoid allegations of racism.
  136.
  137. * In the original Japanese version some monsters only appear in the Eternal Corridor, whereas in the international releases they were added into the forests.
  138. Example:
  139. Shulia appears in Moth Forest & Eternal Corridor in PAL and NTSC. NTSC-J: Eternal Corridor only.
  140.
  141. more to come
