  22.
  23. Ash walks into the dark attic. Darkness consumes the room.
  24.
  25. Ash tugs on the lightbulb switch. The light comes on, but
  26. then dies in a moment.
  27.
  28. ASH
  29. Motherfucking...
  30.
  31. Ash reaches into her pocket and takes out a flashlight. She
  32. turns it on and shines it around the attic.
  33.
  34. Dust is piled in the attic.
  35.
  36. Ash coughs and examines the other boxes.
  37.
  38. She looks around the room and stops at one box that reads,
  39. "Los Angeles".
  40.
  41. Ash opens the box.
  42.
  43. A plastic ID sits in, with a younger version of Don. The ID
  44. reads "Joe's Pizza Palace".
  45.
  46. ASH (CONT’D)
  47. Dad delivered pizza... Weird to
  48. think about.
  49.
  50. Next to it, sits a red Gameboy Advanced SP with its charger.
  51.
  52. Ash picks it up and opens it.
  53.
  54. She flips it over. Some writing on the back of it reads, "LA
  55. April 19th 1998".
  56.
  57. She cocks an eyebrow at this and pockets the Gameboy.
  58.
  59. Ash goes back into the box. A picture frame sits inside the
  60. box. She pulls it out.
  61.
  62. A picture of Don and his sister sit in it. His sister wears
  63. her graduation gown from UCLA.
  64.
  65. Don stands next to her and puts two fingers behind her head.
  66.
  67. The two are happy and smiling.
  68.
  69. The bottom of the frame reads, "Class of 2014".
  70.
  71. ASH (CONT’D)
  72. I didn't know I had an aunt...
  73.
  74. A noise comes from downstairs.
  75.
  76. ASH (CONT’D)
  77. Shit!
  78.
  79. Ash closes the box up and puts it back.
  80.
  81. She runs down the attic stairs, then puts them back.
  82.
  83. Ash looks both ways and wipes dust off herself.
  84.
  85. DON (O.S.)
  86. Ash? You wanted to talk to me about
  87. something?
  88.
  89. ASH
  90. Yeah, uh... Give me a second, dad!
  91.
  92. Ash brushes the dust off herself with her hands.
  93.
  94. She goes down the downstairs. Don is covered in blood.
  95.
  96. ASH (CONT’D)
  97. Oh my god.
  98.
  99. DON
  100. It's not mine, don't worry.
  101.
  102. Ash looks at Don with a genuine look of concern.
  103.
  104. ASH
  105. Jesus, dad! What's that supposed to
  106. mean?
  107.
  108. DON
  109. There was a fight at the bar... It
  110. happens.
  111.
  112. ASH
  113. Go get changed!
  114.
  115. DON
  116. What did you want to talk about?
  117.
  118. ASH
  119. It's not important right now. It
  120. can definitely wait.
  121.
  122. DON
  123. Uh. Oh... Kay... You know, you can
  124. talk to me about anything, right?
  125.
  126. Ash lets off a nervous laugh.
  127.
  128. ASH
  129. Dad, you're covered in blood.
  130.
  131. DON
  132. You sure?
  133.
  134. Ash gives him a look of mild annoyance.
  135.
  136. DON (CONT’D)
  137. Al-Alright.
  138.
  139. Don walks away.
  140.
  141. Ash stops.
  142.
  143. ASH
  144. Dad?
  145.
  146. Don turns back around.
  147.
  148. DON
  149. Yeah?
  150.
  151. ASH
  152. You're... Going to my softball
  153. game, right?
  154.
  155. Don pauses for a moment and looks down at the ground.
  156.
  157. DON
  158. I'll do what I can. I'll ask my
  159. boss.
  160.
  161. Ash smiles.
  162.
  163. ASH
  164. Thanks, dad.
  165.
  166. Don nods and Ash walks away.
  167.
  168. She looks down at the Gameboy and goes up the stairs to
  169.
  170.
  171. ASH'S ROOM
  172.
  173. Ash opens up her laptop and takes the Gameboy out of her
  174. jacket.
  175.
  176. She turns the Gameboy around and looks at the writing.
  177.
  178. She puts it into Google.
  179.
  180. Ash looks at the results.
  181.
  182. "Good Friday/Belfast Agreement for Northern Ireland is signed
  183. by the British and Irish governments"
  184.
  185. "Pakistan tests medium-range missiles capable of hitting
  186. India."
  187.
  188. "Unemployment rate drops to 4.3%"
  189.
  190. ASH
  191. No...
  192.
  193. She clicks around, but stops.
  194.
  195. Ash pulls a cardboard poster out from next to her with a
  196. family tree. She stares at Don's sister's name.
  197.
  198. She places it to face her and jumps on Facebook.
  199.
  200. She looks up "Dawn Paulsen".
  201.
  202. Ash clicks through a few of the name and with a bored
  203. expression scrolls through them.
  204.
  205. She stops at one: "Went to school at UCLA, Works at Knight
  206. Pharmaceuticals - Researcher".
  207.
  208. Ash looks back at the main name on it. From there, she clicks
  209. around in her pictures then stops at one.
  210.
  211. A picture of a newspaper clipping. The post reads, "You were
  212. taken from us too soon. RIP".
  213.
  214. ASH (CONT’D)
  215. Oh, fuck.
  216.
  217. DON
  218. Everything okay?
  219.
  220. Ash shuts the laptop.
  221.
  222. ASH
  223. Yeah! It's okay!
  224.
  225. DON
  226. Ash?
  227.
  228. ASH
  229. It's my boyfriend! Don't worry
  230. about it!
  231.
  232. DON
  233. He sending you something he
  234. shouldn't?
  235.
  236. ASH
  237. No, I mean- No, everything's fine.
  238.
  239. Ash slides herself between the gameboy.
  240.
  241. DON
  242. Alright uh. If he gives you
  243. trouble, I'll break his fucking
  244. legs, you know that right?
  245.
  246. Ash lets off a nervous smile.
  247.
  248. ASH
  249. 'Course!
  250.
  251. DON
  252. Seriously Ash, you can tell me
  253. anything.
  254.
  255. ASH
  256. This is something I gotta sort out
  257. on my own, dad.
  258.
  259. DON
  260. Well if you need anything you can
