  1. There is a major cultural divide on the peninsula of Greater Bretony which can at its most simplified core be divided into a south-north split. In the more populated south, Aldmeri colonisation has led to what is commonly thought of as Bretic civilisation – a society of Manmer (and a Mer minority) speaking tongues heavily influenced by Altmeris, worshipping an Aldmeri pantheon and bearing considerable Mer blood. But north of the formidable mountain ranges that follow nearly the full length of the peninsula, Altmeri influence was not nearly as powerful.
  2. The far north of Greater Bretony, the land beyond the Kurallian Mountains, is known by many names. To outsiders, it is most commonly known as Rivenspire. Among northern people, however, it is known by its native name, Normar (as well as its many local derivatives – Narmar, Narmer, Normer, Narm, Norm and Norymar, among others).

  4. Northpoint, Normar’s main population centre, existed as an independent community long before foreign forces would first arrive in the region but it only rose to prominence as a major trade hub after Nordic invasion, when the city-state became an important outpost on the western trade route, connecting Skyrim to the Iliac Bay. But the initial boom to the previously backwards region began earlier. Normar was for the most part left out of Aldmeri colonisation that had shaped the southern parts of High Rock but during the Nordic-Falmeri wars, a great many colonies were established in Normar by Falmeri refugees fleeing westwards. Although many of those would later take off yet again as the First Empire of the Nords followed them westwards during its expansion, many nevertheless stayed, forming some of the first of the North’s Mer societies.
