  1. The Greenfield Horror
  2. Greenfield, Ireland (approximately an hour outside of Dublin by train)
  3. (The cold December skies begin to turn cloudy as Kate and Connar make their way along the newly paved streets to a place where the asphalt gives way to a dirt road. Next to the steel sign directing them west to portmarnock, there is an old wooden post whose sign is written in Gaelic.)
  4. Connar: (pausing for a minute to read the sign) réimse Glas, here we are Greenfield. Flynn’s farm should be just up the road, he said he’d meet us outside the pasture where the last attack took place. This way Kate.
  5. Kate: (Kate follows, features set in a slight frown, paying attention to her surroundings.)
  6. (Kate and Connar eventually come to the end of the stone walls, in the distance they can see a gray stone house with a thatched roof and smoke rising from the chimney thick with the pleasant scent of bread and some kind of poultry. Near the end of the wall appears to be a man in a wheelchair, as they approach it becomes apparent that the man is not paralyzed but instead very short. Thick red whisker seem to encircle his round face and his thick wool sweater and tweed jacket make him seem too wide for his chair. His head is top with a gray cap that seems to be concealing a pair of pointed ears.)
  7. Flynn: Thank you for coming lad, I didn’t know who else to come to with this. The guard have been absolutely no help at all, they say they are here to keep the peace among us locals but the only place they ever patrol is the pub. (Turning to Kate startled) Oh sorry dear I didn’t see you there (reaching out to shake Kate’s hand) Flynn MacCnoic, it’s a pleasure to meet you.
  8. Kate: (Kate shakes, firm gripped and businesslike.) Kate Burnet. I’m a ma’am, not a dear. Charmed. You’re a leprechaun, is that right?
  9. Flynn: Beg your pardon ma’am, I meant no offense. Aye, I’m one of the last lúchorpáin
  10. Connar: You said you had a body Flynn?
  11. Flynn: Aye Its a fresh one, A pity too she was about to calf. I think she passed sometime during the night like the others, at first I thought it was the bucks in town up to no good as always. But then Cathy tells me that they have been up in Belfast with the travelers for some kind of festival. I call the guard and they take one of the bodies and then call me back and say there is nothing they can do, as if they had gotten out of their pen and been hit by car. But this was no accident nothing natural killed these sheep, come I’ll show you what I mean. (Pivoting his chair, Flynn begins rolling across the pasture towards a stone wall by the forest.)
  12. (Despite having died during the night, the sheep appears to have been dead for hundreds of years. It's fleece has turned yellow and it flesh appears to be dehydrated. Its eyes have collapsed into its skull and in the back of its head is a circular puncture wound that presumably killed it. The most disturbing aspect of the body is the lambs head protruding from its belly, it appears that during the sheep’s final moments, the lamb had tried to chew its way out of the womb.)
  13. Flynn: (hopping out his chair to pet the departed sheep)...No creature should have to die like this...She isn't the first either, she’s the 5th so far.
  14. Connar: Have any other animals been harmed? (crouching down to examine the sheep's neck and skull)
  15. Flynn: Only the sheep so far, the other animals seem to have gone mad as of late though. My cows won't leave the barn, the pigs have been screaming non stop for almost a bloody week, and Shamus won't leave the front door after dark, he just sits there growling at the door. (The rant seems to have winded Flynn who takes off his cap to wipe his forehead.) Bless his heart though, he has protected whats left of the flock by keeping them home. One of the lambs strayed near the woods and he almost pulled his leg off dragging him back to the flock.
  16. Kate: (Kate pokes at the body with a boot-toe with a look of distaste on her face. She listens to the others.)
  17. Connar: You said there were others, do you still have their bodies.
  18. Flynn: The guard took the others, just as well though, you don't want to see those.
  19. Connar: Any particular reason why?
  20. Flynn: This one here is the cleanest kill so far, the first one had its head shattered, the next one had a hole that went from the back of its head out through its face. And it looks like it had trouble holding the other two down because it had to puncture their skulls at an angle.
  21. Kate: Sounds like something out of a book I once read. Can’t quite bring it to mind.
  22. (As Kate examines the sheep, she notices movement in the woods ahead of her. From a distance it looks like a badger entering it burrow, but the tree next to it looks like part of its bark moved. Connar doesn’t seem to have noticed it while talking with Flynn)
  23. Kate: (Kate watches the woods carefully. Whatever moved is still though. She dismisses it.)
  24. Flynn: (Checking his phone before climbing back into his chair.) Goodness, its almost 6:30, come lad Cathy’s making beef stew tonight. Mrs. Burnet would you care to join us for supper?
  25. Kate: (She gives Flynn a smile.) I’d love to.
  26. (As they turn to head back to Flynn’s home a werewolf in a sweater comes limping out of the woods, he seems to be injured. As he reaches the sheep he collapses on the ground. The werewolf is followed by a large insect like creature that leaps into the air towards Connar with extended mandibles.)
  27. Connar: (reacting almost instantaneously, he draws his sword and splits the creature in half. As he turns around toward the woods he draws one of his pistols anticipating another attack)
  28. (Another of the insect like creatures charges from the woods followed by another from the side.)
  29. Connar:(Firing several rounds into the oncoming creatures, he turns again and cuts the other in half.)
  30. (More and more of the insect like creatures begin to emerge from the woods, accompanied by animals that appear to be either dead or dying. Goats, pigs, sheep and horses all of whom are bleeding from their eyes and snapping at anything that moves.)
  31. Flynn: (Reaching under his chair he pulls out what looks like an old wooden club. Falling from his chair, he strikes the ground and three enormous roots erupt from the soil forming a barrier around them and stopping the advancing insectes.)
  32. (As the insects swarm around the barrier, a humanoid creature emerges from the woods. Its pale human skin stretched over an arachnid like exoskeleton, its head is filled with 8 enormous black eyes and its fingers seem to be covered in hooks. Under its eyes are a pair of enormous brown fangs, in front of the fangs are two boney mandibles carefully gliding over the brown enamel. On its back it seems to be carrying something in a cocoon.)
  33. Kinam: (speaking in an almost inaudible whisper.)We are kinma, ‘arob, and rot, the 3rd, 4th and 5th plagues.
  34. (As Kinma speaks, the insect like creatures begin to gnaw away the roots, weakening the barrier.)
  35. Flynn: (struggling to maintain the barrier)
  36. Connar:Kate are you armed?
  37. Kate: Silly question. (From beneath her jacket she draws a pair of silver engraved SIG Sauer pistols from their shoulder holsters.)
  38. Connar: (Drawing his sword) Flynn on the count of 3, I want you to drop the barrier and then duck and cover, you ready?
  39. Flynn: Ready as I’ll ever be lad
  40. Connar:1, 2,..3
  41. (As the barrier drops, the insects charge forward only to be split in half. Connar charges into the swarm slashing and firing, only to be quickly overrun. The combination of rabid farm animals and the insect like creatures seems to be compounded by a sudden difficulty breathing. A fine white dust floating in the air barely visible to the naked eye seems to be the cause. As Kate takes aim at a group of the insect like creatures, she can feel a snare closing around her leg as she is dragged towards Kinam. The creature now stands over her as a second pair of human like legs unfold from its abdomen pinning her in place.)
  42. Kinma: (Lowering its head towards Kates face) Be still and embrace your end.
  43. (As its fangs extend to pierce her neck Kate braces for the end, only to see Kinmas fangs shatter on her flesh and hear the accompanying wail of pain as Kinma pulls back.)
  44. Kate: (touching her neck, it feels like her skin had just hardened into a metal plate, not stopping to dwell on it she rushes Kinma, while firing into its abdomen.)
  45. (As Kate rushes forward, she is blinded by a flash of light that seem to come from her chest. When her eyes adjust, the white wolf from her dream is standing in front of her, snarling at Kinma. As Kinma retreats from Kate more of the white dust seems to appear, choking all who are not infected. The wolf opening her mouth reveals a glowing orange sphere that begins to draw in the white dust, as the dust is drawn in, a screech comes from the cocoon on Kinma’s back as he readies himself for another attack.)
  46. Connar:(Rushes towards Kinma to prevent him from retreating.)
  47. (Before Connar can reach Kinma, several swirling green pillars of light come crashing down from the sky, beginning a whirlwind of fire. As the pillar spin, they begin sucking the insects and infected animals up into the towering inferno.)
  48. Kinma: (Now openly panicking, he opens a breach behind him and scurries back into the darkness.)
  49. (As the pillars of light seem to ascend back into the heavens, the white wolf seems to shrink back to the size of a puppy.)
  50. White wolf: (Approaching Kate, she begins ramming her head into her ankle as if she were trying to go through some door hidden in Kate’s leg)
  51. Kate: (Kate blinks at the wolf, smoking pistols still in her hands.) What the…? Hoy! Stop that.
  52. White wolf: (Looking at Kate confused, as if she doesn't understand why she can't go through her.)
  53. Connar:(Sheathing his sword, he surveys the fallout from the pillars. In the distance he can see a frail old woman, who is at the very least in her late 90’s)
  54. Emma (old woman): (slowly walking toward Connar with shaking out stretched arms)
  55. Connar: (hugs the woman)
  56. Emma: (Kissing Connar on the cheek) its wonderful to see you again Connar, did I interrupt something?
  57. Connar: No Emma, in fact you helped us out of a tricky situation. Will you be joining us for supper?
  58. Emma: Oh yes, I bought one of those cakes that Cathy and Flynn like.
  59. Flynn: (looking over the shattered remains of his chair) Lord Jesus I just got it the way I like it and I'm going to have a hell of time getting HSE to pay for a new one..(Looking over at Connar and Emma) Emma! I have never been happier to see a supper guest arrive early.
  60. Connar: Since everyone is here and we finished our business in the field, shall we had back to your place Flynn.
  61. Flynn: Aye, I have never needed a drink so bad in my life, Mrs. Burnet do you still fancy supper?
  62. Kate: (Holsters her guns.) Uh… I suppose. Never a dull moment with you, Connar.
