- Lightning struck, and a loud bang rattled the windows. The storm was bad, and getting worse as time passed. The sun had long since set.
- She hugged Einstein more tightly. the dead drone, it's chemical cells emptied at the wrong time, didn't respond. He couldn't even tell her stories to pass the time.
- Still in the dark, she curled up tighter underneath her blankets, trying not to jump when the next thunderstrike came.
- The power was out, and had been for half an hour now.
- Her parents were gone. Einstein was out of power. She was alone.
- She tapped her watch, and it lit up in neon pink colors. It was 12:06.
- It was her birthday now. Heather Leery was eight years old.
- Thunder struck, and she curled up again, in the dark.
- There was a creak from the tree outside.
- There was a rustle in the bushes outside.
- She curled up tighter... and then took a deep breath.
- It was just a storm.
- She'd be okay. Dad said she would be back soon, right?
- Unless it flooded. Unless something happened to her.
- Heather sprung to her feet.
- She knew what she had to do.
- She had to... FIX EINSTEIN.
- He had a flashlight. He could keep things lit, and then everything would be okay!
- Time passed as little heather, hiding under chairs when the thunder struck, made her way all the way to one of the drawers in the kitchen. Pulling it open, she grabbed the first screwdriver she could see, and something that looked like what she thought a battery should look like. Crawling back to Einstein, she gave the small spherical drone another hug, and then she got to work.
- The storm was just abating, and galoshes on her feet, Dad came home, looking through the dark house... when all of a sudden, bolting out of the darkness was a great flashlight shining right into her eyes... and her daughter came hugging her with all the force in Heather's body.
- "I fixed him!" Heather said, grinning up at her father.
