- >Day Enrollment in Equestria.
- >”I'm so glad you two could meet with us today. It is an honor to have a member of your family considering attending our institution Ms. Heartstrings.”
- >”Well, having an inter-species school seemed like the best option for our daughter and many of my father's associates recommended St. Caval Rhy, headmaster Pule.”
- >You feel out of place here, knowing little about private schools in your own world, let alone Equestrian.
- >The only saving grace is that Lyra attended here when she was a child, giving Hope a good standing with the faculty.
- >Your little five year old must be as nervous as you, sucking her thumb as she sits on your lap.
- >She lowers her head a bit, letting her long hair fall forward as a small frown forms.
- >Bringing your hand to her head, you pet her.
- >Her frown start to change to a smile as she pulls her thumb away.
- >”Now then, Hope?”
- >The baritone voiced stallion's call shocks Hope and pulls her attention to the mule.
- >”Y-Yes?”
- >He adjusts his thin rimmed glasses, smiling at the little girl.
- >”Do you know why you are here?”
- >She fidgets, wanting to shove her thumb back in her mouth.
- >Placing your hand on hers, you speak in a soft tone.
- “Go ahead Hope. Tell the nice stallion why we're here.”
- >She presses her back against your chest, taking a small breath.
- >”We're here because mommy and daddy want me to go to school.”
- >He nods, happy with her verbal skills.
- >”You know what school is, right?”
- >”It's a place boys and girls go to get smart.”
- >The stallion chuckles, pulling out a small set of photos.
- >”Tell me, do you know what these are?”
- >He lays them down on his desk.
- >Each photo is a member of a different species.
- >”Uh huh. That's a Unicorn and that's a Minotaur. That one is a Griffon and that's a Zebra. Ooh! That's a Dragon!”
- >Hope's smile is returning, having a bit of fun playing this guessing game.
- >”All correct, I'm glad your parents have been teaching you about the other species. These are all former students of ours. Tell me Hope, do you hate any of the species you see here?”
- >His question causes you to tense up a bit.
- >You and Lyra tried to teach Hope to treat all species as equal, but a few minor slip ups here and there may have slipped between the cracks.
- >Looking to your daughter, her brow is furrowed and her arms are crossed.
- >”Only the bad ones.”
- >Your daughter's comment has the head master raise a brow, concerned.
- >”Bad ones?”
- >”Uh huh. Bad ones. Like Sir Slash!”
- >Hope's little outburst causes you and Lyra to chuckle.
- >”Ah yes, the prominent villain in one of Daring Do's adventures. Frankly, I'm not a fan of him either. But species as a whole, do you dislike any of them?”
- >”Nuh uh. There are good guys and bad guys in all species. That's what daddy says.”
- >She looks up and gives you a front teeth-less smile.
- >You chuckle at the sight and pet her head again.
- “That's right Hope.”
- >The stallion chuckles as well before clearing the photos.
- >He then proceeds to pull out a book, placing it on his desk.
- >”Good to hear. Now then, Ms. Heartstrings?”
- >”Yes?”
- >”I would like to have a word with your husband alone, if I may.”
- >Lyra nods, extending a hoof for Hope to hold as they make for the door.
- >”Be good dear, don't bite.”
- “I won't honey.”
- >Your wife flashes you a soft smile before she and Hope exit the room.
- >Turning your attention to the head master, his expression has turned from one of joy to that of a professional.
- >”I'll be frank Mr. Anon, we don't know anything about humans here. Will there be any problems with your daughter and any of our other students?”
- >His comment does more than annoy you, but you are used to it.
- “No sir. Humans are relatively peaceful, Hope more-so than most of my kind.”
- >He nods, sighing as he opens the book.
- >”Good, that clears up one problem. Now there is just the issue of necessities.”
- “Necessities?”
- >”Yes, things such as food, desks, uniform, etc. I think we can both agree that it would be a hassle to create an entirely new program from scratch for a single student.”
- “Yeah, I can see how that would be a problem.”
- >He brings his hoof over to a page filled with pictures of various children wearing the uniforms with the school's silver shield logo.
- >”What I propose is you look through and decide which species needs are closest to human and we will tailor a program together from your selection. Minimal changes made, minimal problems created. Does this sound good?”
- >You pull the book over and nod.
- “This sounds perfect sir.”
- >The mule smiles, pulling a sheet of paper and pen out from beneath his desk.
- >”Excellent, let's begin then.”
- >Laying the book back down, you grunt and look over to the clock on the wall behind the stallion.
- >You've been working with him for a little over half an hour, but you did it.
- >It surprised you how much Minotaurs and humans had in common.
- >”All right, we shall get started preparing your daughter's accommodations immediately. They should be ready when she finally attends classes.”
- “That's great. I hate to rush sir, but are we done here?”
- >He puts the book away, along with the paper he has been writing on and seethes.
- >”Not quite yet. There is still the matter of your daughter's tuition.”
- >You knew this was coming up.
- “Don't worry sir, my father in law gave us a rough estimate of what we should expect to pay. We'll have it ready.”
- >”I don't mean to seem rude. We have to make accommodations for every student, no matter what their race, and our school is privately funded with minimal support from the Equestrian government.”
- >The buildings interior says otherwise.
- “Sir, I understand. Like I said, we will have Hope's tuition ready. Don't worry.”
- >Standing, you offer the stallion your hand.
- >He shakes it and walks you out.
- >You look for Hope and Lyra once you two are out of his office, but they are nowhere to be seen.
- >Worried, you walk down the hall a bit.
- >The sound of children playing is entering the cracked windows.
- >”Over here Hope! Pass it over here!”
- >You look to the direction that yell just came from and see something that warms your heart.
- >Outside is Hope, playing with some of the children attending St. Caval Rhy.
- >She is kicking a soccer ball towards a young chubby Minotaur in the goal.
- >Lyra is watching alongside a few other parents.
- >Mr. Pule steps next to you.
- >”Well, looks like your daughter won't have any problems fitting in.”
- “Yeah... looks like.”
- >Pressing your arm against the window, you lay against it and watch Hope play for a little while longer.
- >”And then the small colt kicked it to me and I kept running until I was in front of the goalie, a-and then-”
- >You let out a soft chuckle as your satyr passenger clings to your head.
- >Hope won't stop going on about the game she just played.
- >She isn't aware you were watching and you are too happy hearing her speak in such a joy filled tone to stop her.
- >The little rider only stops once her stomach starts to growl.
- “Heh, looks like someone's ready to eat.”
- >She lets off a soft mew before clinging tighter to your head.
- >Lyra giggles before looking up to her daughter.
- >”Why don't we go out for lunch today? In fact, we could spend the rest of the day out.”
- >Hope's eyes go wide as pats your head, letting you know she wants down.
- >Letting her down, she grabs hold of your hand and her mother's hoof.
- >”Can we go get some pizza? Any toppings I want?”
- >Lyra lets off a playful groan, knowing exactly what Hope wants.
- >”Of course sweetie. Any toppings you want.”
- >The little satyr licks her lips and starts to contemplate on what she wants.
- >She like to think you two don't know her that well, but you do.
- “Let me guess, you want pineapple and sweet bell peppers, huh?”
- >”Uh huh! Can we?”
- “Well, I guess mom and I can order a cheese for ourselves. Sure.”
- >Your daughter has the strangest tastes, or maybe it was just your human tongue.
- >Still, it was good to see Hope eating her vegetable, even if they were on top of a pizza.
- >As you continue your walk, Hope blows strands of hair from her face.
- “Hmm, your hair is getting a bit long again. It might be time for a trim.”
- >She pulls on your arm, shaking her head.
- >”No! I hate haircuts!”
- >Sighing, you gently pull your arm back and look over your daughter's head.
- >If only there was a way to control her hair without cutting it.
- “... All right, we'll wait another week, but we will have to deal with it eventually.”
- >She nods and pushes her tongue into her cheek, eyes worried.
- >Pulling a few strands of her hair to the side, Lyra walks a bit ahead of you two.
- >”All right, you two are taking too long. Come on Hope, let's see if daddy can keep up.”
- >Your daughter squeals as she rushes to hop on her mother's back.
- >Before you can object, the two girls in your life or speeding off without you.
- >Letting off a small chuckle, you give chase to the sly mare and innocent girl.
