Kaede, born to the esteemed Machida family received a noble upbringing and a stellar education in technology and engineering while also being trained in the basics of traditional archaic weaponry and protocols of the Draconis Combine.  Following the completion of the education she causes or is framed in an industrial accident.  Rather than face trial for the alleged misdeeds Kaede takes her personal belongings, steals one of her family's mechs and a significant amount of equipment and flees the system.  Using all her remaining finances she brokers an entirely new identity, Hana Katagiri.  Along with the travel expenses this completely exhausts her finances leaving Hana stranded on the current planet.  She manages to survive by selling hauling services with the JAW-65A and rare tech services needed for agricultural equipment.  The Machida family would like Kaede, the mech and other stolen items returned and likely is putting some effort toward that.  The Machida associated business, Isesaki Shipping, has been given note to report any sightings of Kaede and the stolen Jabberwocky.

Hana, born to the Katagiri family, received a technical and engineering education. She desired to follow a similar path to her father, Billy Katagiri, whom held a sought after engineering/tech position associated with the Combine military.  Following the education Hana was uncertain of how she desired to apply her skills and opted to travel with her inherited JAW-65A.  While stopped at the current planet she finds that all her finances have been stolen.  Hana manages to survive by selling hauling services with the JAW-65A and rare tech services needed for agricultural equipment.  She believes in honor and respect in terms of equal treatment, but exposure to the ruthlessness of mercenary life may cut away at those ideals.  Typically seen wearing mechanic's wear she is rarely found without a wakizashi and katana, family heirlooms, by her side.
