BACKGROUND : daeil didn’t have a normal childhood. his father was never in the picture and his mother was never invested in his well being, an abuser who used the food and rent money to buy drugs. she was old fashioned and every time daeil would cry in his adolescence or show what she believed to be “weakness”, she would lash him on his hands or feet until he learned to be quiet or ask her latest boyfriend to roughen him up a little to teach him what it meant to be a “real man”. as the years went by, daeil mastered the art of sealing his emotions behind a mask to avoid the pain. in a twisted way, daeil normalized it, thinking she was doing the right thing and loved him, but he woke up and realized that to be a lie when she tried to drown him in the toilet after he brought a guy (who was more than just a friend) home when he was sixteen. he dropped out of highschool to become a drug mule for a gang shortly after so he could earn some money to pay for their apartment and keep the fridge stocked. after years of emotional and physical abuse at the hands of his mother, daeil became the abuser; nearly strangling his mother to death when he was eighteen after she stole his drug stash. his boss wasn’t exactly happy and the gang left him for dead in an alley when he tried to explain.

(idk if the following part would fit with andromeda's background or the background plot so feel free to modify it / say that he ran off with a close friend who later betrayed him)

daeil went to andromeda for help, and with them both knowing it was dangerous for him to show his face, they left the city and moved onto different things; namely their current gang. daeil kept his drug addiction a secret from everyone but andromeda eventually caught him when he had a bad reaction to whatever it was cut with. these days, he has to occasionally curb cravings with a smoke, but daeil is determined to stay clean and makes sure that everyone else is as well.



PERSONALITY : at first glance, daeil can sometime come off as intimidating with his silent nature, seemingly quick to anger from his excessive eye rolling and annoyed responses. despite that and all of his rough spots, daeil's easy to get along with if you haven't bothered him. on the other hand, he's blunt and rude, not afraid to speak his mind; not knowing when to hold his tongue, and that coupled with his short temper doesn't do a lot for the well-being of his face when matched with evenly skilled opponents. his words are sharp and he doesn't seem to know when enough is enough, leading to negative feelings and a few unshed tears every once in awhile since he seems to completely disregard others feelings when he gets riled up. least to say, daeil isn't the most empathetic person and its best not to fuel the fire when he’s agitated. he tends to get frustrated easily but he'll let most things slide if you're someone he regards as a friend. daeil manages his stress poorly, relying on narcotics such as cigarettes to calm his nerves or taking out his frustrations on people--whether verbal or physical.

he's not your prince charming type of guy or someone you’d bring home to your parents. daeil doesn't believe in fairy tale romance, or that 'love at first sight' his ex preached about. he's not the type of person to cater to your needs, or get you a birthday present--you should be thankful if he even remembers. he may be your saviour, but only if he thinks you're someone worth saving, and that doesn't entail to many people outside of the team.

he lacks in the trust department, a bit insecure while engaged in relationships (the type of person to doubt if you care for him). least to say, daeil is possessive, impulsive and has an addictive personality, finding it hard to stop when he starts something. he used to have an addiction to molly (mdma)--he likes to joke that it was his first love--but he’s been clean for about two years now. love is a hard thing for him to understand, believing that relationships are mostly just to gain something you want; his mother only loved him when he put food on the table and his sexual encounters were based around just that. while he's not a very open person, rather reclusive when it comes to his feelings, daeil is a social creature and thoroughly enjoys spending time with his team (or at a party tbh). after years of suppressing his emotions, daeil has normalized it and the only emotion he willingly expresses is anger, the cause usually being those who try to mess with the people he holds dear.

HOW YOU ACT IN FRONT OF YOUR LI :
— he would be slightly awkward in an actual romantic relationship and would show his love through small gestures instead of saying the words “i like you / i love you”. he hates public displays of affection and might be a bit cold or stoic (it’s best if dates are kept a private affair). daeil would try to be affectionate with them if that’s what they liked but if they aren’t ;) then the most he’ll do is hold hands with them.
