  1. Fully Anticipated and Frequently Asked Questions:
  2.
  3. - How are you killing the Bat Boss in Level 1 in one hit?
  4. It's a glitch called "Critical hit" Glitch. When you hit an enemy on the same frame it hits Simon, the whip's hitbox glitches out and lingers for longer than normal, dealing extra damage. This makes it a frame perfect trick. Doing the glitch on stairs will deal even more additional damage, to the point where it one-shots the Bat Boss.
  5.
  6. - How are you dealing extra damage to Medusa, Frankenstein's Monster, and Dracula?
  7. This is also the Critical Hit glitch. It's not done on stairs, so it doesn't deal enough damage to just one-shot those bosses. It's used instead just to finish them off a little sooner: The cool thing about these ones is that they're not actually frame perfect! Thanks to a stun setup with the Holy Water and the whip, it's possible to position Simon on a specific set of pixels and start walking away as the bosses come out of hitstun, and whip whil getting chased. This creates multiple frames where Simon can whip and get hit by the boss at the perfect time. This goes for Medusa and Frankenstein's Monster.
  8. For Dracula, there's a weird mechanic where being really close to him and doing an ascending whip can either turn the crit into something as big as a 4 frame window, or into an impossible one. This depends on the exact distance between Simon and Dracula, and the exact amount of frames that A and B (jump and whip) get staggered by. Since I started using this setup, my consistency with this crit has gone up significantly.
  9.
  10. - How are you getting so many useful item drops off of enemies?
  11. Item drop are pretty easy to manipulate in this game if you know what you're doing. Every 16 frames within a room, the game checks if an enemy is being killed on that exact frame, and if it is, it makes it drop an item. What specific item ends up dropping depends on a chart and the current position on that chart, which is determined by how many item drops have already happened thoughout the run.
  12. Normally whipping an enemy makes item drops a frame perfect manipulation, but subweapons such as the Cross or the Holy Water can make those frame windows much bigger.
  13.
  14. - How are you killing the Mummies that quickly?
  15. That's another glitch with the Cross subweapon. If it hits two hitboxes that are overlapping, it constantly hits them on alternating frames. If the mummies are perfectly on top each other, it's possible to kill them with a single cross throw.
  16.
  17. - What are the tricks in leve 5 all about?
  18. It involves a setup to prevent tiles off-screen from updating. It's very complex, but the gist of it is that moving in certain ways, standing on certain pixels and turning around tricks the game into forgetting to update some blocks. In stage 13, this removes certain blocks at the top of stairs, which allows Simon to keep climbing non-existent stairs and access the next screen much sooner and much further into it. In stage 14, this allows us to backtrack to the beginning of the room where the screen normally locks until Simon is on the top floor, but now with the ability to touch the left side of the screen, which is the trigger for the game to end the stage.
