- Examples of important Pressure Piping QA/QC documents
- This document introduces some of the important QA/QC documents that are typically used in the industry. The aim is to explain their definition and purpose and also point out different types of information they provide to the reader.
- List of Important Piping QC Documents
- Inspection Test Plan (ITP)
- Request for Information (RFI) /Non-Conformance Report (NCR)
- Welder Qualifications
- NDE Procedures/Qualifications/Results/Log
- Weld Procedures(WPS/PQR),Weld Map/Weld Log
- Pressure Test Procedures/Records
- Calibration Records
- Torque Procedures/Records/Maps
- Material Test Report (MTR)
- Line Designation Table (LDT)
- P&IDs/As-built drawings
- Punch Lists
- Inspection Test Plan (ITP):
- List of logical progression steps for inspections and tests
- Must be approved by owner prior to start of construction.
- Typically includes witness, review, hold, etc. points.
- Signed by Contractor, Owner and ABSA if applicable
- Material Test Report (MTR)
- MTR certifies:
- ASTM standards,
- Applicable dimensions,
- Physical and chemical specifications.
- Provides material traceability through heat numbers
- Tracking must be done upon receiving and during construction to ensure right components are used
- MTR can be useful for failure investigations
- Line Designation Table (LDT)
- Shows piping parameters such as line class, design pressure and temperature, test pressure, material, percent of NDE, etc.
- Lists all the lines in the project and is a valuable and quick reference for QC activities
- Piping Materials Classification
- Indicates line class and associated service, material, corrosion allowance and design parameters limitations for that class
- Lists description and rating of pipe, flanges, fittings, valves, etc. based on size of the item
- Must be traceable to Bill of Material and LDT
- Weld Map
- Weld map shows welded joints, joint number and welder ID on an isometric drawing. It can include date, repair or cut-out and NDE information such as RT or MT report number.
- Weld/NDE log
- Lists welding procedures. heat numbers, drawing numbers, size, etc.
- Weld log and weld map need to correlate and be traceable with supporting documentation.
- Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)
- Provides direction for making sound welds
- Shall be implemented to obtain required mechanical properties (Strength, hardness, etc.)
- Torque Sheet
- Documents torqueing of flanges
- Specifies fit-up checklist and torque values required
- States torqueing method and toolβs calibration information
- Identifies flange and gasket ratings
- Pressure test report
- States code of construction, type of test and line information
- Specifies test pressure and duration of hold time
- shows gage calibration information and test medium
