40. Trained since childhood to be a lethal killer, Raizo has since turned his back on the Ozunu clan that raised him and now seeks revenge for their heartless murders. Teaming up with Europol investigator Mika, Raizo steadily butchers his enemies while inching ever closer to the long-awaited bloody reunion with his former master.
 41. When several people are killed in a peculiar manner, a Europol agent suspects that it could be the work of Ninja assassins. Her superiors warn her that she's entering dangerous territory. But she investigates nonetheless and it leads her to another dead agent who was also investigating the same thing. When she is marked for death, she is saved by another Ninja, whom she learns has gone renegade.
 42. In case you really have no idea what is a ninja, this movie's title alone can get the best of you to lure you into the cinema. So, a ninja is someone trained to assassin and mastering stealthy martial arts. Got it?

Ninja Assassin's story is what the critics called "messed up". This time, it really is messed up. After the viewing tonight, I actually found out these problems. 1, Whoever wrote the screenplay deserved a CGI slash in the neck with some CGI blood spilled out. Recycling a typical oriental story involving loyalty and betrayal wouldn't be such a cliché even if you tried to make it one, so it must haven taken really some hard work to make it this bad. Ovearally, it's like an exhibition of ninja stereotypes, that they live a low-profile life in mountains, etc. The protagonist's childhood companion and love interest was killed, and he seeks revenge after he becomes a super-ninja. But why wasn't I emotionally compelled at all? Maybe it's not trying to tell a story, instead it's trying to cut action scenes together so they would look like a story. It's really a waste for director Mcteigue's team. Just admit it, this movie deserves a better story.

2, The actions are bloody, downright gory and gruesome. The opening scene has a bloody impact on audiences. However the rest of actions can't reach the impact the opening scene did. Instead, they are more alike what you have seen in V for Vendetta, except 90% of them were shot in shaky camera. I mean, this is not a Jason Bourne movie, and showing some shadows fighting in pitch black was already confusing, using of shaky cam doesn't add tension or horror but make the whole thing more messy. Maybe director Mcteigue wasn't given enough autonomy to make more "bullet time" fighting like in V for Vendetta. Anyway, it got the package delivered if not a bit over-the-top when you see a dozen of ninjas chasing on the street or tanks firing cannons at ninjas.

3, the pre-teen kids' performances are really nice and intriguing, but the teenager actors were just too pale to make the dramas enjoyable. Rain's got the job done when he showed his muscles and make-up scars, but he's also pale as the wall, or should he be like that?

The aforementioned 3 problems are not serious enough on their own if only one of them stand out, but they have this "synergy" to make the movie lose its edge and subtlety in undertone. Batman Begins, which is not principally a ninja movie, actually has a better, more intriguing, more convincing portrait of a secret ninja clan. The reason is not only the art design, the performance etc., but the subtle undertone. Because Ninja Assassin takes itself too seriously, it never reached its peak or climax it should have reached.

6/10, better save you money for a better ninja experience. Please check out on Batman Begins and Shinobi.
 43. When taken for what it is, there's nothing bad to say about "Ninja Assassin". It's an action-packed gore fest that's equal parts "The Matrix", "Kill Bill" and "Aliens". The fabulous choreography is there. The severed limbs are there. The fear of the dark is there, except instead of waiting for aliens or zombies to spring from the shadows, it's ninjas. Does it get any cooler than that?

Of course, there are the eye roll moments that are inevitable in this type of movie. When dozens of highly trained soldiers are being mowed down by ninja stars and katanas, how does the little "forensic researcher" manage to dodge all that? How does the hero suffer a wound that should spill his guts on the floor not only live, but still manage to brutally kill like 8 more ninjas immediately after? Things like this are the obvious clichés one comes to expect, but also love about these type of films. The simple plot (man wants revenge and will dismember any number of ninjas to get it)is enough to satisfy without getting in the way of the almost wall-to-wall action. Like many other posters have said, don't bring your mom, GF or kids to this movie. Bring your guy friends and have a great time.
 44. It’s like Bob Fosse night at the martial-arts studio. Most of the killing here is done with bladed throwing stars that, like the ninjas themselves, arrive from nowhere. They appear to have been used to edit the film as well.
 45. In Singapore only a cut version of this movie was released in order to get a rating. This censored version misses out nearly 45 seconds of violent scenes that are featured in the uncensored versions.
